GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in jail accused of kidnapping and holding a woman for ransom.
Police say Bryan Conley abducted the victim in Brentwood, Tennessee. Investigators say he then used her phone to text her parents, demanding $20,000.

The FBI arrested Conley in Grayson County, not far from the ransom drop in Christian County.

The victim was found safe in the back of Conley's car.

Police say Conley threatened to sell, rape, and kill the daughter if her parents didn’t comply with his demands.

On Thursday, police along with the FBI tracked Conley down and arrested him in Leitchfield.

The woman was found safe.

Conley is expected to be in court Friday.

Ky. Man Arrested After Allegedly Holding Tenn. Woman For Ransom

“One more lie she’s dead,” Bryan Conley, 36, allegedly texted the woman’s parents during the ordeal, which spanned more than 24 hours.

Fortunately, Conley does not appear to be a master criminal, and he left a trail of clues for the FBI.

He sent text messages from the woman’s phone, each more chilling than the last:

“You have ten minutes to be on road or I sell her *advertiser censored*.”

“You listen or I send you pic of her body.”

“In one hour they will start rapeing her *advertiser censored*.”

The mother asked to speak to her daughter, who was not identified, but Conley would not put her on the phone, authorities said. Instead, he sent a photo of her inside a car “with what appeared to be binding material around her mouth,” the complaint said.

The family negotiated the ransom down to $400 and jewelry and agreed to start driving to drop it off.

By then, authorities had some idea of who was sending the messages. Early Tuesday morning, someone had attempted to log into the daughter’s bank account from a phone number registered to Conley’s wife in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Um...huh. I know this is a horrific crime and I'm very glad the woman is safe, but this made me laugh.

Yep, it's a good thing he was a desperate idiot. He kept on texting her family long enough for the FBI to track him down.

MOO.

BTW, for anyone not following other cases, this arrest was originally reported to be connected to a missing TN 14 year old but the press had to take that back (they were wrong): FBI: Suspect Detained In Ky. Not Believed To Be Connected To Missing Tenn. Girl

By a huge coincidence the 14 year old's adoptive father was arrested for rape around the same time Bryan Conley was taken into custody. Both were FBI investigations involving TN and KY, so there was some confusion with people thinking the TN father was the one arrested in Leitchfield. But there was no connection in these two cases. The missing 14 year old girl was also found safe: Found Safe - TN - SLP, 14, Madisonville, Monroe County, 13 Jan 2019 #2 *ARREST*

From that link:
At 3:30 PM CST the ransom payment was delivered behind a dumpster at the Flying J Travel Center in Oak Grove, Kentucky. At approximately 5:00 PM CST, Federal Bureau of Investigation Louisville Division observed Bryan Conley retrieve the ransom payment, then enter a Ford Taurus and leave the gas station. FBI agents followed Conley to a gas station in Leithchfield, Kentucky. Conley was arrested at the gas station by FBI Special Agents who removed R.W.’s phone from his possession. After the arrest R.W. was found in the Ford Taurus.

Conley is currently in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. A preliminary detention hearing is scheduled for February 1, 2019 in Owensboro, Kentucky.
