Press conference from one hour ago:
His car was found last night with rifle case inside, today, some distance away they found the AR and magazines close to the highway.
The search is going very slow due to the terrain, but they do believe he is still in the area.
He was indeed targeting random <mod note -member requested a word change to "strangers">, not a road rage incident.
From this press conference:
- POI's silver Honda was located atop a hill on a forestry road of of exit 49. It was not in a location that he could have shot at the highway from. He would have had to have walked over to the interstate.
- they found an AR-15 gun case in the car, but no ammunition.
- they found an AR-15 near the interstate, that they believe was used in the incident. It was in a position where it could have used to shoot down on the interstate. There were also a couple of fully-charged magazines.
- when asked if the poi possibly had another weapon, he responded, "yes, that's possible".
- based on what they've found they believe this is the guy, and while they are close to calling him a suspect, they are still calling him a POI for now.
- they haven't found any pieces of clothing or other evidence...the woods are very thick and it's very slow going.
- "we're getting reports that he might be elsewhere, but we are still operating under the premise that he is still in there in the woods"
- they've been bombarded with tips/sightings
- Q: any idea of motive yet? A: No. There's been speculation but we aren't ready to address that yet.
- Q: do you think the suspect is still alive? A: Don't know that either.
- we still believe we have only one person involved in this.
- Q: was this a road rage incident? A: No. You've got 5 people who were shot; one car was from Kentucky and the rest were from out of state. It's a random act.
- Q: how are the victims doing? A: with them being reported stable last night we are expecting a good outcome.
