Can we get a more exact location on this? NamUs says "found in park"... Which park? Also can they narrow down the age range?

Here’s an example (not the best) that I found while searching for more info on this case. For anyone not entirely familiar with the phrase “dropping dimes” or “to drop a dime”. May have absolutely nothing to do with this case, but without knowing more specifics, the dime found in his palm is puzzling. (IMO)

Drop a dime, Dimed Me out, Dropped a dime on someone:
"The phrase “dimed me out” is sometimes used today to indicate that someone has been ratted out or otherwise turned in to the authorities. It's a twist on slang from the 1960s and '70s, when we “dropped a dime” on someone." (Copied from mentalfloss.com)

Edit to add- was this person a snitch?

Somehow, I dont think "Dime Piece" applies here lol (this is obviously NOT a gorgeous woman)

This is an interesting case. If I was David M. Ross I would be very uncomfortable.

lol, I’m with you, I doubt “dime piece” is what’s being alluded to here...

There may be no allusion to anything , he may have simply been holding a dime when he died. I’m not sure what to think about it really. The fact that it’s mention makes me think more of it. It doesn’t appear as though it’s a particularly unique dime or that there’s any other significance to it...it’s just a theory.

If it does many anything, or was left by his killer (assuming he had one - I don’t see a cause or manner of death listed) then yes, I would say it was some sort of hint towards him being a “snitch”.

Yah, I do wonder how Mr. Ross factors into all this. Stolen card? Could they have been aquatinted or did he just happen to find a lost card. Seeing as how they made sure to note that Mr. Ross is not missing, I think they probably looked into (or still are looking into) the card at least a little. IMO

“Recovered from within the left back pants pocket is a hair band.”

Might this mean he had long-ish hair?

I would like to know the year of the dime no mention of that any where.
Ditto. Especially since no PMI is listed. I’ve added that our list of questions...along with a more precise location and age range (if it’s possible to know).

Is David M Ross from Lexington? By the way he's dressed it kind of sounds like he could've been more on the younger end of the age range they gave...do we know his race?

I haven’t found a “David M Ross” that I think might be the one. So I don’t know about him being from KY. I think he’s probably on the younger end too, but age and race are two things I’ve added to our list of questions. Surely the age at least can be narrowed down a bit?

Is it just me or does he seem quite short for a bloke?

I am local to Kentucky and attended
Elementary school with a David Ross. Please let me know how I can help you guys out with David or anyone else’s case.
The David Ross I knew would likely have been born in the late 1960s. Interestingly enough, I recall seeing him at a local fair in McCreary County (Stearns, Kentucky) over summer break. Odd because I never encountered anyone from Lexington while away at a family member’s home in Stearns Kentucky. An old coal mining town but I would assume he had family in or from the area because the fair was off the beaten path and not likely something anyone would have merely happened upon.
Please keep me posted!

Do you know what park he was found in and when? Shillito or Jacobson are both local and either is likely.

The David Ross I knew was white and he was not an attendee at my Elementary school until maybe 3rd or 4th grade. I will sleep on it but certain he joined my elementary in 4th grade.
Eta it his height is literally 5’4 I doubt it’s the same person because although that’s my height now the guy I remember was tall and maybe even lanky.

The dead guy is not David Ross, apparently. They found the guy who went with the card and he wasn't dead. From the Namus file:

Circumstances of Recovery: Body found in wooded area of park. Recovered from within the left back pants pocket is a hair band. A dime is recovered from within the palm of the right hand, a food stamp card "David M Ross" (Per police, Mr Ross is not deceased or missing)

So I think your friend is safe.

Yes, he does appear to be smaller in stature. Considering his height and shirt size, which is all we really have to go on with this one.

Do you know what park he was found in and when? Shillito or Jacobson are both local and either is likely.
That’s also on the list of questions. It’s good to have locals though, you’d have a better sense of the area and a much more educated guess than I would :p I still can’t tell you which side of Kentucky the Ohio River is on. hahaha, and shamefully, I mean that quite literally.

We all have our weaknesses. :D

ETA: as carbuff said, David M Ross is not our UID...but we don’t know anything other than that about Mr. Ross

Ugh Although I’m glad it’s not David Ross who is dead I am super confused about how he relates to this scenario. Will reconsider tomorrow after sleep and work although I am seriously interested in helping regarding any KY cases. Mean it!

Awesome!! The more the merrier!

The only part that David M Ross plays is that the decedent was in possession of a food stamp card belong to a man by that name. Evidently, law enforcement tracked down this David M Ross and found that he was not missing and not our guy. If he does have anything else to do with this case, it’s not known to us...
