Since March, the mother, Rhoda Lewis, has been visiting her children two hours twice a week.

Lewis says she has been taking pictures of her children's bruises ever since.

"I begged and pleaded and cried. I said, 'Please don't send my babies back there.' And they would have to tear my children off me screaming, 'Mommy, please no no, mommy.' And there's nothing mommy could have done," said Rhoda Lewis, the mother.

Lewis blames her sister and brother-in-law for the death of her son.

Adkins-Lewis said her son and her other children were placed in the custody of her sister back in March, after she lost custody because of what she says was a substance abuse problem.

"Part of it is my fault... I can't blame myself anymore than I already do. To put him in the position to get hurt like that."

Adkins-Lewis said she knew something was wrong and she did everything she could, but said the end result was the loss of her son. She said the other kids who were also staying at her sister's home have been taken into protective custody.

Watson's funeral is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook.

This precious little guy went from bad to worse. WHY DIDN'T DSS LISTEN!

I totally agree! That precious little guy in his overalls. So very sad and the Aunt and Uncle...UGH!!!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

This IS the great American tragedy. So sad. Poor little guy. Prayers for the other children for all they had to watch or endure.

These poor babies get caught in the middle of drugs and abuse. Will it ever end? They are taken from a parent(s) and given to a relative and still this happens.

Why take a child into your home to abuse him/her? Why not just say no!

It is a tragedy and it breaks my heart. What is the answer? How can we protect these children? Its everyday not occasional abuse or death but everyday!

Rest In Peace little Watson. No more abuse, no more pain. I am praying for your brothers and sisters.

This is so sad, it breaks my heart. I hope his mother gets her life straightened out so she can take her children and raise them with love. They deserve it!

Family members fought back tears Monday as Judge Johnny Harris read the jury's verdict, finding Jason Dickerson guilty of murder and four counts of criminal abuse...

The jury recommended a life sentence for the murder of Watson Adkins, as well as a total of 40 years for four counts of criminal abuse...

Gladys Dickerson will go on trial at a later date.

He did get the life sentence and 10 years for each child abuse charge, according to Kentucky DOC records, but I couldn't find anything on Gladys. Still pending, apparently.

January 2016:

A Floyd County woman pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal abuse in a case that involved the death of her two-year-old nephew and the physical abuse of the boy’s siblings...

"It was obvious to us that from the evidence we saw, we felt Jason Dickerson was actually the one who committed the criminal acts, that caused the deaths of the child" says the Commonwealth's Attorney for Floyd County, Brent Turner.

"One of the older kids involved, he was adamant from day one and throughout the trial that Gladys was not abusive toward them and in fact tried to protect them from Jason," said Turner.

Prosecutors say her testimony led them to offer her a plea deal that dropped the murder charge.

"She committed crimes of her own in allowing it go on and she could've certainly put a stop to it. She had issues there where she was also a victim of the same man," added Turner.

Jan 2016:

prosecutors have recommended a 15-year concurrent sentence in the case...

Floyd County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner said the deal was reached after careful consideration of the evidence, consultation with Watson’s mother, Rhoda Lewis, and Dickerson’s willingness to come forward with the truth during the trial of her husband, Jason Dickerson.
Turner said Gladys was never offered any plea deal or promise of leniency for coming forward during Jason’s trial, but rather, she took a risk, and told prosecutors she had failed the children by not taking action to stop the abuse. She said coming forward with the truth was the only thing she could still do to help right the situation.
