Terry Speaks guilty of murder in killing of Jaren Lockhart

NEW ORLEANS - A jury took only about 90 minutes to find Terry Speaks guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the death and dismemberment of a Bourbon Street dancer in June 2012.
He was also convicted of obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice.
Speaks, dressed in a dark suit, hung his head and then shook it as the verdict was read. He was handcuffed and briskly taken from the courtroom.
Speaks now faces a mandatory life sentence. His sentencing is set for July 8.

GRETNA, LA (WVUE) -
A jury of eight women and four men deliberated for about two-and-a half hours before convicting Terry Speaks in the murder of Jaren Lockhart.
The jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit obstruction.

Speaks and his former girlfriend Margaret Sanchez are accused of killing and dismembering Lockhart in June 2012. Sanchez is being tried separately. Her trial date has not been set.

During Speaks' testimony, he said other witnesses who testified were lying about what transpired before Lockhart was killed. Speaks also said a man approached him and Sanchez about finding a girl for a party that was supposed to happen at Iberville and Burgundy streets. The man left with Lockhart, Speaks said.
