Endangered/Missing Person Jovan Johnson

Detectives with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office are seeking the assistance in locating the below pictured Endangered/Missing Person (Jovan Johnson B/F 12/5/83.)

Ms. Johnson was a witness to an ongoing investigation that was scheduled for trial on August 5th, 2024.

Ms. Johnson was last seen leaving her place of employment in Laplace at approximately 12:30 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Ms. Johnson was last seen wearing a pair of maroon nurse scrubs.

If contact is made with Ms. Johnson please contact Captain Brandon Barlow with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 504-494-2674.

I find it strange that she was supposed to testify as a witness on August 5th but she was last seen on the 7th. Did she not show for court?

MOO
the term "scheduled for trial" makes it sound like the reporter may not have access to the actual court docket, and maybe the trial was delayed or postponed? if it was a one-day trial, does not make sense to harm a witness after the fact. another option is it was a multi-day trial and it started on the 5th, but she was set to testify after that.

There is (was) a jury trial scheduled August 5 in St. John the Baptist Parish. (PETIT JURY#532 DIV ‘C) for MONDAY, August 5, 2024 at 10:00 am and continuing as necessary on August 6th. Case to be heard by Judge J. Sterling Snowdy. Jury roster (public information) with court details attached but there was no info about the actual case type or defendant (standard procedure). If it won't open you can find it at the Parish Official Clerk of Court site and is under "Office Calendar". She's not listed as a juror so she likely witness (criminal charge) or complainant (if the case was a non-criminal lawsuit) The Court Calendar does NOT show the case rescheduled so either it occurred or was cancelled, IMO. Oh no. South Louisiana has a horrible track record of witnesses being harmed. I reeeeeally hope she's ok. We need to have a way that these witnesses aren't required to testify or that a witness who goes missing or killed does not derail the trial.

Jovan's Facebook makes it seem as if she is a hairstylist, but her last seen says she was in burgandy scrubs?
I've seen women wear scrubs for a variety of jobs - with their durability and ease of movement, and being easy to launder, they're becoming more and more popular. Our dog groomer wears a pastel colored set that she loves for work.

I guess so but they are bathing/grooming dogs, none of my hairstylists have ever worn scrubs. But I guess it could be practical depending on the setting. Have you looked for court records yet? I found a few but I'll wait for you to chime in.

I can see a reason to harm a witness after testimony - anger and revenge.

I hope that is not the case here.

I worked in mental health for a long time. I had staff who did nails or hair and worked for us, as well. Many of my staff wore scrubs, even though they didn't have to. She might have 2 jobs. Sadly, it seems necessary for many people.

Louisiana is a difficult state to find public court records in. The Parish where she lives charges $20 to do a one time online search. You can search records through PACER but although there's no fee to register there is a fee to access online records. I did find several records by name, but it's not her, age, gender are different.

I’ve seen a few hairstylists wear scrubs before but LE’s post stated she was last seen leaving work @ 12:30am. IMO, that’s an odd hour for a hairstylist…again JMO.
Possibly she had two jobs.

It was just an observation, the bigger concern is not what she was wearing - but why didn't she arrive home after work?

Jovan consistently has people pinging her on Facebook for hair appointments. This would be a very busy time for her with school starting soon.

It would be helpful to know if there was an eyewitness who saw her leaving, or if the last seen sighting was from a security camera? Did she stop somewhere and someone was following her?

The Sheriff's post on Facebook has commenting turned off, but many people are posting about her on Facebook.
