Kimberly Bowman left her Hammond home around 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, for a quick trip to a store, her sister said. About 2 ½ hours later, New Orleans firefighters found the 32-year-old's body inside her burning vehicle in the 2700 block of Desire Parkway.

Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey C. Rouse ruled her death a homicide, and said she died of a gunshot wound.

"Who would do this?" her sister asked. "It just had to be personal for somebody to take so much anger out on one person. I can't even think of somebody who would want to do that to her, just because of the kind of person she was."

Through a spokesman, New Orleans police originally declined to comment on their investigation into Bowman's death. But in a release issued Monday, NOPD said its detectives "learned the homicide occurred in Tangipahoa Parish," and would assist authorities there in the investigation.

An arrest is "imminent" in the shooting death of a Hammond woman whose charred remains were found in a burning car in the Desire area of New Orleans, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Tuesday. And authorities for the first time signaled a possible drug link to the slaying.

"She was a very nice and sociable person and appeared to be a very hard worker," said Pat Sicard, chief of the St. Tammany Fire Department's District 3 in Lacombe. "She was very polite and respectful. It's sad to hear about her death."

Grand Jury Indicts Suspect

A Tangipahoa Parish grand jury indicted Christopher Eason Friday for second degree murder in connection with Kim Bowman's death...

A spokeswoman with the Drug Enforcement Agency, which is also investigating the case, said, "We expect federal indictments on several individuals in this case soon."

Earlier articles said Kim lived in Hammond. Now she's referred to as a "Lacombe woman". Renita Menzies' charred remains were found in a car parked at a boat launch in Lacombe. She had a history of drug abuse. Coincidence?

Also, for those not familiar with New Orleans, the Desire area is known for crime and drugs. The killer obviously thought leaving her body there would throw off LE by presenting a scenario where she was killed during a drug buy in a different jurisdiction.

Christopher N. Eason, age 26, of 154xx Quick Blvd., Hammond, LA, was indicted with one count of second degree murder. Assistant District Attorney Don Wall is prosecuting the case.

More details in this article. Eason was already incarcerated in Tangipahoa Parish on drug charges when the indictment came down.

According to her sister, Kimberly, who was engaged, left home to go to the store, but never returned.

Kim was raised in Lacombe but had recently moved to nearby Hammond.

Tangipahoa Parish authorities believe Bowman and Eason were involved in a drug deal when the murder occurred. Investigators say Eason became a suspect through a tip, and was located already in jail for a drug-related charge, as well as missing court.

But the one question loved ones still want answered is why. "How could you shoot somebody, then drive from Tangipahoa Parish to New Orleans with a dead body in your car and then set them on fire?" Kelli Bowman said.

Tangipahoa authorities say the investigation isn't over, as future arrests are possible. The Drug Enforcement Agency, which is also involved in the case, says it expects federal indictments for several individuals soon.

Anything else on this case? There was a Kim Bowman who testified in the trial of a drug dealer...just started looking at Kim's case so no idea if it's connected.

Reminds me an awful lot of Jessica Chambers case in Mississippi.

Nothing more that I can find in the news.

Regarding Jessica Chambers, the timing is coincidental, a month apart. Kim, however, died from a gunshot wound, while poor Jessica was burned alive. Such a terrible injustice and tragedy for both young women and their families. At least one murder (Kim's) appears to be solved. Hopefully Jessica's killer also will be brought to justice soon.
