It's not uncommon for a tailgate to be removed. Many can be easily stolen, or removed to pull a 5th wheel trailer...and some folks remove them because they think it creates less wind drag in the back which would improve gas mileage.

I would like to know how they know it's the same truck. It's possible that two different vehicles crossed paths. Especially with a common vehicle.

Considering there are so many WT's of that type in the area, you'd think they saw the license plate! That would be the only absolute way to know it was the same truck!

Dang, I wish I had a Chicken fried update for when you drop this post. I know it will be a good one, because I was alarmed too after riding St. Landry and observing.... That bike route makes total sense BTW. St. Landry, St. Julien, right on Johnston to Cajundome blvd, good work my friend.

What do you mean? Since you share with us that you were alarmed, can you also explain?

Did anything stand out to you at St. Patrick?

to comment on the prevalence of white trucks, i find it interesting that there's also a white truck with chrome bumper in one of the pics saints_streets posted. on the opposite side of the circle k.

is it the truck they cleared or a different one you are talking about? Link by chance....i don't remember seeing that or where to even look lol? TY :)

ATTENTION - IMPORTANT

I got so sick of this debate about the white truck that I just called Lafayette PD. The white truck on St Landry, GOING IN BOTH DIRECTIONS IS THE SAME TRUCK. The truck on W University is the one that was eliminated.

The press release was poorly worded <modsnip>! Both pics on St Landrey are the same!

I informed them about the Facebook pic. Could be a coincidence but maybe not. At least they know, now, and can check it out.

OHHHH Artis...Youre my hero!!!!

:hero:

the fact that this is the same truck makes it less suspicious for me now. If the driver isn't from the area, not only may he not know anyone is looking for him, but it is conceivable that he did not know that st. Landry does not continue through to a populated main street. According to the maps i've seen, it ends at coliseum not too far down, which is fairly dark and deserted (as described here). Being unfamiliar, he may have turned around and headed back up towards university. It is a main street and he would not want to get lost further. This would not take more than a few min. JMO

This (red) makes it more suspicious for me now. jmo

I just got back from a walkthrough of the Circle K to St. Louis St. area, t get the facts for myself, instead of reading them here second hand. I learned some very interesting and alarming things. I will be putting together a cmprehensive post, but it's going t take me some time. I want to put it together with some maps to try to end the confusion here, and upload some photos. It is a good amount of material, and will take awhile, and my right hand is not up to it at this moment.

I will post it all at once, hopefully tonight, maybe tomorrow A.M., so as to avoid confusion.

I will give y'all one thing now to discuss. I rode around with a security guard at the closed Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for half an hour, and the guard saw Mickey all the time and talked with her and knew her route. I will be calling the PI to make sure he has interviewed the guard.

The guard said that Mickey did not go all the way to Coliseum Rd. at the dead end of St. Landry. She said that Mickey turned left on St. Julien, right on Johnston, and right on Cajundome.

Maybe that information has been printed before, and maybe that's what her family has said - I honestly don't know and don't know where to find the link.

But a guard who saw Mickey says her route home included cutting over to Johnston St., using St. Julien St., because the guard used to see her turning left there after passing the hospital.

That's all for now, but I thought I'd give y'all that to start. The rest of what I found is outside the box, alarming, and, as a local, it makes sense. More on that later.

very early on, either on katc's facebook page or the find mickey now one, a volunteer mentioned that they had talked to a guard at the old lourdes. of course, i have no idea if LE or the PI followed up with said person.

Very well done! If there was a worshiping smilie I knew the code for I'd be posting it. You're awesome.

Now, if you blow this up (and it's a poor photo) it looks like it has a tool box below the back window. I noticed that right away because I thought about Lacy Peterson. I may be way wrong on that because of the poor quality but it interests me considering the FB pic.

I agree there very well could be a tool box going across the bed of the truck right below the rear window.

It is my understanding, & I may be wrong: sonar & wood don't mix

Isn't sonar a type of sound wave that bounces off of an object and returns an approximate image of the object? It isn't like X-ray, which would go right through wood.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this thread. I've read the case overview and a couple posts. Here is my initial impression and theory on what might have happened. This McGee, who has a hit and run felony rap pending (is that correct?)...what's his current status? How is he tied to that white truck? This is a stretch, but might oddly make alot of sense. What if that victim from a couple years ago turned in to McGee's car because he was trying to AVOID him? Meaning McGee was playing some sick cat and mouse game and kept going at him no matter which way the guy turned to avoid him? What if he was after Mickey in the same manner? Her back tire had damage. In my theory he might have hit her (accidentally or intentionally) while playing his sick cat and mouse game...and then disposed of her and her bike in the river. Or her bike in the river, and her elsewhere. That's what rings probable for me at the moment. Again, this is just my opinion. No facts to base this on other than cobbling together information. Of course, this could be complete poppycock as well.

I'm with you here. Not sure who they need to get straight - the person Artis spoke with on the phone or the press release/website/media relations people. On their own website it lists the truck going left as the 'newer model' that was ruled out. Can't be that important to find if that's the case.

Yet I can't imagine LE wanting to have to deal with calls about white trucks, if they don't really need the info, either.

I'm probably repeating a question asked but wasn't there a camera down by the hospital?

There's no way to tell because of the poor quality. Someone at a professional level, like the FBI, may be able to.

You would think if they knew it was the same truck and this angle proved it concisely that "white Chevy Z71 without tailgate" would have been the description LE released, but I guess I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time and certainly wouldn't be the last.

Very true - we go to Lafayette all the time and often are out late when we do visit friends. We live an hour away - and not everyone where I am is aware of the truck and all...most have probably at least heard a girl is missing from Laffy.

Yes, most from the area have heard a girl went missing over there, but if the LPD haven't found the owner of the WT, then I would hope they would ask the news over here to get the word out. It is very possible the owner could be from BR or even NO.

I am not trying to be offensive, but I officially call the LPD's media folks illiterate. They do not know how to convey info in written sentences. Wonder if they are any better in spoken language.

Thanks a bunch, Artis. Although, no offense to you, I'm still less than 100% about both pics being of the same truck unless confirmed by a law enforcement official directly involved in the investigation. It is crucial to know, if only for the nonwhite gas tank cover. That's one of the few specific identifying details that can be gleaned from either of the two pics.

i meant from this post: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8000546&postcount=117"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - LA LA - Mickey Shunick, 21, Lafayette; 19 May 2012 - #19[/ame] (if the link doesn't work since i'm new and dunno how things go, it's on page 6, post number 117)

i think it's the second pic, with the original of the DWTIQ and a new shot of the same corner. in the background, you can see another white truck passing through. i just found it interesting, not saying it's the WT anyone is seeking. just goes to show how many WTs are really out there.
