One thing I did notice about the photo is that he appears to be wearing shorts like gym trunks/sweats with elastic waistband instead of regular shorts with zipper and button. Quicker for a rape. Now I'll be looking suspiciously at anyone in gym trunks!

And I'll be carrying my kubaton! I don't care if it is illegal, it is also illegal to rape and murder!

After seeing an aerial shot of WB I think it's possible that the perp actually threw Mickey and her bike off the bridge near deeper water. Maybe a passing boat damaged the bike and pushed it closer to the shore.
Not easy..not much room to toss w/little shoulder to bridge. Too much traffic, even at night. It's a major h'way..lots of questionable people driving back & forth, cross country. Big risk to take.imo

They have searched that bay area time and time again after the bike was found by a stroke of luck. Its time to move on from there and go out east and check the exits along the I10 all the way to Baton Rouge to see if anything else of hers was dumped along the way. If something else is found it would help give a direction of travel after dropping the bike at the bridge..........Just thinking out loud.

The Mississippi river is about 20-30 miles from whiskey bay. He could have put her there, but the baton rouge exits next to the river are "populated" - cant think of a better word. There are barges and casinos nearby. Levy road toward and past LSU campus, however, would be dark and quiet

RE: but he said you have to keep the details quiet so only the perp knows them.

'ERRN1313, this is referred too as hold back info/evidence'.. Yes it is important to hold back a couple items of evidence/info, to rule out/in POIs/suspects, but to silence the whole investigation is simply based on tradition and squanders their most valuable resource; the American public.
Most missing/ murdered investigations in the 21st century are closed due to forensics and/or a tip from the public.

Stranger on stranger abductions/crimes are the most difficult for investigators to solve. Time is critical in these cases, due to the recidivist nature of the perps. The longer they remain stealth, the more empowered they, and others become. They will not only repeat, but many times they will escalate...

Oh, I totally agree. The public needs to know what to look for and so many cases ARE solved from tips from the public. I was only repeating his views from his point of view (not that I agreed LOL). I find myself studying DWTs and just this morning stared down a petite, platinum blond pony-tailed jogger, and I'm in PA!

Once I got over it NOT being her BF, I figured this to be a random abduction. I also had a premonition that proved correct that her bike would be tossed into water, as mentioned back on thread 1 or 2, and that it would be a rule-of-three abduction (taken at one place, evidence discarded at a second, and body at a third) - usually that third location is not close to where evidence is dumped, but instead is along the way to the third place.
So you are 100% correct in what I BBM.
I still believe the thugs that did this have some kind of record, and odds are they bothered or did something that might have been reported, but dismissed by authorities anxious to keep crime stats low IMO...

I wish LE would come out and request this kind of info from locals - asking anyone who's been accosted/bothered by a man or men to come forward.

I wish there would be a focal point, one person acting as an LE spokesperson...

Okay, end of

There are personality types that get an adrenaline rush by taking extreme risks that the rest of us would never consider taking. Someone on this board posted a while back that while they were in college they stopped on that bridge and they all got out of the car and danced in the street late at night. He said he realized they were taking a chance, but it must be possible.

I still think he is a Lafayette local and that he kept her close to where she was taken. He took the bike away from that area to pull the attention away from his "domain" because he knew they would keep searching where the bike was found. Because I still believe that the bike was dumped a day or so before it was found, it would not surprise me to find out that he participated in searches at WB and then stayed behind to ditch the bike.

If your car breaks down on the I10. What do you do?
You call a wrecker yes?

Police still hunting suspect in Raleigh attempted rape - of 22 year old NCSU coed bicyclist

The suspect, who the police believe was caught in a surveillance photo, is described as a white male in his 20s to 30s with medium skin tone and muscular, 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8 build. He had brown eyes and dark facial hair, and wore a blue shirt, what looks like a

* Yankees cap, baggy white shorts and black and white tennis shoes on the night of the attack.

"Parallels to Mickey Schunick's abduction" -

'Exactly one month between abductions; Mickey Schunick 05/19/2012 & Raleigh, NC abduction 06/18/2012'..

Bump & grab of bicyclist scenario indicated-rare MO for adult abductions according to research
(Damage to Mickey Schunick's rear bike tire)

Early morning 2:30 AM abduction - times nearly identical

22 year old coed - ULL & NCSU students

Proximity to College campuses

Probable ruse used in both abductions - (If LE came up on the scene, perp could only

be charged with a minor vehicle accident/ticketed - this perp is a thinker, imo)

Proximity of abduction to Interstates 2 to 3 miles

Bikes removed from scene in both abductions(forensics)

Chamberlain St., Raleigh NC, where the bump/ruse occured doesn't appear to have street lights.

I had not previously looked carefully at this part of the picture (sign area) just under the front of the truck which does look odd. Seeing the area in person I just kind of blew off the whole under the truck thing. I am going to have to look for more images and clearer ones to see what is there, but in this pic I do see someone there. Was it added in or pixel distortions & imagination? I don't know. When looking at this I also realized the sign is much bigger than I had really noticed when you compare it to Mickey on the bike or the truck.

Where you have the area circled I see what appears to possibly be 2 people, a blonde standing/leaning over the shoulder of someone with dark hair who is leaning over ?Mickey ? lying facing the camera in an almost fetal
Position- legs on top of one another and knees bent with her head on the left side of the sign pole. It looks like bent knees and 2 grey shoes on the right.

In other words Mickey is horizontal on the ground with feet on the right and head on the left and the person(s) are maybe bent over or squatting over her. Examine her? Mugging her? Tying her up? I don't know the answers.

remember this outlined zoomed in picture that you are viewing is the space below the truck and the ground. There is really not that much room for a person to be standing. That is the problem with cropping/zooming pictures, it's out of context and the mind sees what it wants without taking into account size limitations. i honestly don't see how you see blonde or dark hair or absolutely anything at all in these pictures. there is too much distortion. at this point i think we are all going absolutely insane with this white truck pictures and discussion. dear lord :banghead:

You hope you don't break down on the WB bridge! Until a few years ago, there were no turnarounds on the entire bridge. I remember heading home from USL before Thanksgiving and being stuck behind a wreck for 3 hours. It took that long for emergency services to get there, take care of the situation and get the bridge cleared so that we could continue. It is in the middle of nowhere, over a swamp and the actual portion over WB is very narrow and dangerous. There have been many wrecks in that area because of the way the bridge is built and the speed that people, especially truckers go on it.

Do we know where in the water as it relates to the length of the bridge the bike was found? IOW, was it in the middle of the bridge or closer to one side or the other?

I think chicken had a good number of pics w/ explanations of where & why he thought it was done that way.

Yes it, I just think with a million other bayous & coulées to choose from, he/they wouldn't have chosen that particularly difficult one foe a nighttime drop of both bike & victim. I do think I remember ACI saying the bike didn't have enough damage to consider a h'way shoulder drop, IMO

You probably wouldn't believe how awful it is to break down on that bridge! If someone wrecks or stalls ahead of you, and they can't manage to pull over to the shoulder, the whole bridge is shut down in that direction, usually by traffic that just has to come to a complete halt after the wreck. Even if you manage to pull over to the shoulder (and not all areas have shoulders) you are on a shoulder that is barely as wide as your car, so you are incredibly close to cars and trucks flying by.....don't stick your head out the window, that's some good advice.

A tow truck usually has to come from the opposite direction---and this is a divided highway, with a big drop down to open water or swamp land in between. Turnarounds have been added, but they are blockaded closed and can only be opened by police, so you have to wait for LE and the tow truck to show up, open the turnaround, and wait more time for them to get to you, hook you up and tow you out of there. It literally can take HOURS.

I personally know of two car stalls which resulted in the deaths of all the occupants of the vehicles when they were slammed into by eighteen wheelers traveling at well over the speed limit.

Hey all,...i'm new. Nice to be here, :)

Does anyone know of the forensic results on Mickey's bicycle?

If you look at Google maps and type in Lafayette, go to the right. You'll see Sherburne National Forest at Exit 127. That's the exit and the bike was found in the water near the highway supports.

The Whiskey Bay bridge is actually part of the Atchafalaya Basin bridge which is 18 miles long. It's a couple of miles from the WB bridge to the east end of the Atchafalaya bridge.
