The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a dozen people in waters off the coast of Louisiana after six crew members were pulled from rough seas when their commercial platform vessel capsized. The missing crew were on board the Seacor Power, an oil industry vessel that drops massive legs to the sea floor and becomes an offshore platform. The ship flipped over Tuesday in a microburst of dangerous wind and high seas. The search includes at least four Coast Guard vessels, four private ones, two Coast Guard airplanes and a helicopter.

A source with the port system in Port Fourchon told WGNO that six people were rescued, however, three people had to be left behind, clinging to the partially sunken vessel because weather and water conditions were too rough to retrieve them.

Lafourche Parish-President Archie Chaisson, our source at the port, and the Lafourche Sheriff’s Office have all confirmed that there is a conflict in reports of how many crew were members were on board.

According to the company’s internal manifests, one report says 18 crew members on board, while the other says 19. At this point, there are still 12 to 13 crew members unaccounted for.

A staging area was available to the crew members’ families overnight at the Port Fourchon Fire Station, in Golden Meadow.

1 person dead, others still missing after ship capsizes off Louisiana

It was still capsized at midday Wednesday, and rescuers said survivors could be trapped in air pockets in the prone vessel.

"It is a possibility. We don't know for certain right now. But that's something we're looking into as the investigation unfolds," Coast Guard Ensign Shelley Turner said. "But it is a possibility right now."

The Coast Guard are incredible. Conditions must have been extreme to leave 3 crew members at the vessel. Almost a decade ago, one of my family members and her shipmates were rescued by courageous Coast Guard personnel when their tall ship sank in the center of a hurricane. The conditions exceeded the operating capability of the CG aircraft; but they went anyway. I re-live the long excruciating period of uncertainty, when we knew the ship had sunk but the fate of the crew and rescuers was unknown, with every sinking. Our loved one and all but two shipmates and all of the CG rescuers survived. My heart goes out to the survivors, the rescuers, and the loved ones of all those involved tonight. Hoping tomorrow brings good news on the remaining crew members.

The fiance of Jay Guevara, of Lafayette, confirms to us that he was on the boat. Family does not know the status of Guevara's fate at this time.

The family of Gregory Walcott, 62, of Abbeville, also tell us he was on the boat. Family says that as of Wednesday they have not heard anything from Seacor or the Coast Guard on an update for Walcott.

His niece, Crystle Randle, says, "We don't have any words. It's just...it's like a bomb just exploded without any notice. We're all just in a state of shock right now. We're just staying in good faith that he will be found alive." According to Walcott's sister, he has worked offshore for 20 years and this moment is one they never imagined.

Family members of Dylan Daspit of Iberia Parish confirm he was on the boat. They remain without knowledge of his wereabouts. His wife, Hannah Coleman Daspit, asks that “everyone pray for a miracle. He needs to come home to his family. We can’t live without him.”

The family of Quinon Pitre, 31, from the Lawtell area, tells us he also was on the boat when it capsized. They also tell us they have not been told of his status.

Hopefully they are in an air pocket inside the hull, since they haven’t been seen

. Despite a widening search involving Coast Guard boats and aircraft, no other crew members have been spotted. “We had both air and surface assets out last night — nothing materially has changed,” U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Third Class John Michelli said around dawn Thursday.

“There is the potential they are still there, but we don’t know,” Lally said early Thursday. “We’re still searching for 12 people because there are 12 still missing.”

Part of the overturned ship’s hull and one of its legs were still visible, leaving most of the bulky vessel underwater, in an area 50 to 55 feet (15 to 17 meters) deep, according to the Coast Guard. Also called a jackup rig, it has three long legs designed to reach the sea floor and lift it out of water as an offshore platform.

12 crewmembers believed to all still be onboard capsized boat, search continues

The Coast Guard says divers were able to conduct operations Thursday at the capsized vessel. Divers knocked on the hull of the vessel without hearing a response, the Coast Guard adds. Dive operations are secured for the day and are set to resume on Friday.

Search efforts will continue overnight into Friday with air and surface assets, the Coast Guard says.

Coast Guard says their air and surface assets continued to search overnight Thursday and throughout the day on Thursday. Coast Guard crews have searched for a combined 70 hours covering approximately 6,380 square miles, an area roughly the size of Hawaii. They believe all 12 missing crew members are still on board the capsized vessel.

I'm just here to support my Louisiana Boys and their families. Offshore work is so dangerous and I dont know many here who haven't worked it, at some point, because it's good money for some honest hard work.

I'm from South Louisiana and our communities are crushed because most of the 19 workers are from my area. My son works on a deepwater drillship as a drilling engineer. Most of his work has been in the gulf and international. Working on a rig is dangerous and challenging and you work 12 hr. shifts, for 14/14 days if you’re in the gulf and 28/28 days for international drill ships or rigs. Workers miss family events and holidays. If the rig is in a country that has some unrest, workers are escorted by bodyguards that are locked and loaded.

This is devastating. My gut wrenches for them families just waiting.....not knowing....hoping. My husband worked offshore for over 20 yrs before an accident out there.
It’s a very dangerous job. These men make many sacrifices to provide for their families.
I pray the outcome is good.
