I'm from Loreauville area too. I hope they get to the bottom of it.

Whats strange is I was told the Irvins lived in the trailer park near the old Loreauville elementary school, and that's on the other side of town from the road he was found near. Ed Broussard road is off of main street. That would've been a far walk if he was tripping or high on anything.
That is strange, especially since the teenager who talked to Quawan's mother said the body was found in a field behind their house. I know you may not know for sure, but are there any trailer parks close to the field where the body was found? Any homes at all in that area?

Would it have been more than a mile that he walked? It's a mystery why he would have been in that area alone, yet apparently there is a witness who saw him. I don't know if that means they saw him in the exact location he was found at the creek or close to that area.

The new Loreauville elementary school is across from the park and they do have a trailer park next to the park off of Ed Broussard road. Maybe i heard it wrong...sounds like that's the trailer park they were talking about ...the one down Ed Broussard road near the new elementary school.

Very strange that he would leave the house alone and end up in a creek. Could he have tried to cut through the field to go somewhere else? Or is it just all field and swamp that can't be crossed?

It's great to have locals who are familiar with the area. It's hard to picture the area he was in. Would he have had to walk far to get to a creek? I think another local said there were ponds and drainage ditches there, but not many creeks.

Also, is the park the kind of place where teenagers might hang out? Is there a playground there?

from the link above
"As soon as Charles was found,"We immediately began treating this as a homicide investigation," and deputies have since been "actively and aggressively" collecting evidence, the sheriff stated."

immediately?
that's not what was implied in the beginning
what was it that LE would immediately feel it was a homicide?

An unattended death must be treated as suspicious until it is proven otherwise with the evidence. I have read this multiple times from other LE agencies. I don’t think they immediately suspected homicide. IMHO.

The park has a playground and lots of baseball fields. I'm not sure of the exact location his body was found. The only waterways I've ever seen in cane fields besides small ditches is huge deep canals not paved...very wild looking (vines and wild weed growth) with muddy water. You'll see atleast two canals in 30 acres of sugarcane fields. I'm going to ask around to find out more details of the area he was found in. I have cane farmer friends that might know those fields.

IMHO, I think the family's reaction is based on emotion. I believe that they have jumped the gun a bit in claiming racial issues just because the family that picked him up is white. IMHO, this was not a 15 year old that was "taken" from his room. IMHO, he broke the rules and left the house with his "friend" (and mother driving). I haven't asked my son's friend's parents if they have permission to come over (at that age). I would likely assume that in the middle of the day, a 15 year old that my son has known for a few years would have permission to hang out. I think throwing around the language "taken" is a bit presumptuous. If this was a younger child, I could see the alarm. But, at an age when he will soon be driving, a lot of kids have more flexibility and freedoms. If they are not close friends, the parents wouldn't likely know that he is in trouble and basically grounded - or was he. Didn't the articles say he was just getting some freedoms back?

IMHO, I am concerned that he was doing drugs and ended up in the water. He had to be moved away from "bad" influences. He is with a friend from his past...

Am I certain no foul play occurred? Absolutely not. But, it sounds like LE have been investigating. I hate, hate, hate that teens are often assumed a runaway when they leave home on their own. I don't think enough is done in the first days of a teen missing. They likely treated him as a runaway for the first few days and that make me angry. But, that is an across the board response, not limited to race. This happens way too often in my opinion. In my opinion, helping the parents ping the child's phone should be easy and standard protocol when a teen comes up missing.

I personally, in my unprofessional opinion, think that his face could very well be from being out in the elements, especially with water involved (adding aquatic animals!). BTW, ewwww! I had to look up what a nutria is! I am so glad we do NOT have those around here. I just don't think it is fair to immediately claim racial issues in this case. They have video surveillance showing him walking alone. I am afraid the easy answer is this young man got mixed up with the wrong crowd. I don't think an autopsy has a reason to be biased; plus the full results are not yet available. I am afraid that we will likely hear he was under the influence of some type of drug that was a factor in his death.

Either way, this beautiful young 15 year old boy is dead, his parents are grieving, and they want someone to suffer for their pain. I am so sorry for them. I am so sorry Quawan is gone too soon. IF someone is responsible, I hope that justice will be served quickly!

I totally agree! My nephew is 16 now, and a mind of his own. When he wants to go somewhere with a friend, hell or high water he is going, and no one but cops will stop him. A lot of teenage boys are strong minded at that age, and want to be with there friends.
And you are right, the mother probably assumed it was ok to pick him up. I do think they are wrong for throwing the race card around, because cops would have been slow to act on any teenage boys whereabouts right away IMO.

Yeah, when my teenage daughter asks if I can go pick up a friend I don't always ask permission from the parents, unless it's a new friend or a family I've never met.

I think in this case the issue has more to do with the fact that Quawan's parents likely did not want him associating with his old friends. His mother said she called him at 3:00 pm and he didn't answer, so he must have left between the time his dad went to the store and came back around 4:00 pm.

He was placed on curfew by the 16th Judiciary Court for disciplinary problems at school, but his parents said he had no problems at home.

The mutual friend who spoke to Quawan's mother said of the 17 year old friend and the family, "Whenever they picked up your son, him and his mother and stepdad were all tripping on mushrooms." So it sounds to me like it wasn't the first time they had picked him up to hang out with their son.

What is very concerning is that the friend's family has not contacted Quawan's parents since his body was found, according to his mother. That doesn't sound good. However, police say they are tracking them so I'm sure they will catch up to them if they haven't already.

Not at all...it's a small friendly town where everybody knows everybody...but oddly, no one I know knows who Janet Irvin or who her son is. We all suspect they aren't orginally from Loreauville or Iberia parish.
Check the Lafayette parish arrest report. She may be acquainted with that area. I believe there are a few families with that name.

Well said.

A lot of things disturb me about Quawan's untimely death.

First and foremost is the fact that video has been recovered of this 15 year old walking alone, 20 miles from home. Has this video been shared with the public yet?

He was with a friend, with that friend's parent driving. Is it accurate that the parent said he left the home and didn't say where he was going? That far from home? I'm sorry -- you take a 15 year old anywhere, you don't let that kid leave alone. That's straight up negligence.

My heart breaks for this child's family. At this point, I don't see racial injustice as a factor at all.

The Advocate newspaper is reporting the family’s autopsy matches the findings of the official autopsy.
Sorry I'm having trouble linking.
Family's independent autopsy of Quawan "Bobby" Charles echoes official account of death

“Findings from an independent autopsy of Quawan "Bobby" Charles, the 15-year-old found dead two weeks ago in Iberia Parish, echo those from an official autopsy.

Preliminary reports from both autopsies suggest Bobby drowned.”

“The manner of death for both reports is pending toxicology results and a police investigation.”
