I guess your right but that is still such a distinctive feature surely someone must recognize them or they should be traceable
bbm

According to government rules first applied to the industry in the early 1990s, every silicone breast implant must carry an imprinted serial number.
also bbm

Yeah but don’t you think someone would recognize such a distinctive feature also are the Breast implants traceable
This particular breast implants were untraceable. Sadly hadn't a serial number that is required nowadays. Let's say the woman was estranged/missing, met somebody, took implants and he killed her. He would know...but doesn't come forward for obvious reasons.

I agree, but if there was a big size difference, some folks around her might have noticed it.

The implants were reported as having been 200CC in size. Those are very small; if a sphere, for example, each one would have been 7.78 cm in diameter, or a bit less than 2 inches. (Of course they aren't spherical, but you get the picture). One person commented that he didn't know that they made them that small.

Lake Pontchartrain Jane Doe's NamUs was recently updated, but no new exclusions (at least not visible). That recon with shorter hair (sidecut?) was added last month.

I wonder how far along her genealogical research has come.

I disagree that anyone around her would have necessarily known she'd had breast augmentation. It's not the kind of thing you tell your mother.

Hah! Funny you should mention that! A friend of mine had breast augmentation surgery. Mainly it was for lost fullness from pregnancy. When she got to the surgeon he convinced her to go to a much larger implant size, saying many women wished they'd gone larger after having the surgery. So against her better judgement she went with the larger implants.

Well, for about two months she really enjoyed it. It was summer and she pranced around in skimpy tops attracting lots of male attention. Once we were on an outing to Aberfoyle outdoor flea market near Guelph Ontario. We had to park in a farmer's field and walk through an area with a lot of trees. A guy was coming towards us and he was intensely riveted by her breasts so much so, he walked right into a big tree and dropped like a sack of flour!

She realized that type of attention is actually quite negative and wasn't what she was looking for. Plus none of her clothes fit and she'd have to have a whole new wardrobe which would have required extensive tailoring of all her tops. She was so scared that her mom would flip out if she saw them, she'd stop in a mall parking lot near her mother's home, take off her bra and wear a big baggy sweatshirt to hide them.

By the time September rolled around she's already made up her mind to have them replaced with smaller natural-sized implants. The surgeon was reluctant to do it without her paying again but she pointed out that he was the reason she went with the larger size after his heavy handed insistence. He did it for free and she was happy with the results. No one walked into a tree again, to my knowledge.

1. She may have gotten the breast augmentation surgery in another country where serial numbers are not required. I know that some French, Dutch and German people travel to Turkey, Czechia or Brazil to have breast augmentation surgery because it is cheaper there while the medical standard of those private clinics doing them is the same as in the home country.
I guess people in the Us do that, too?

2. Since she died in 86, she had them probably implanted in the US before the laws changed, if it was not before the late 80s. If she had them in the early 80s, there were no serial numbers yet.

3. Or she immigrated from a foreign country and had the implants made there.

Here's a link to the history of breast implants and descriptions of different breast implants that were available during the 1980s. A process called capsular contracture occurs after breast augmentation, although the process is common in any type of surgery that implants devices in the body since the immune system identifies them as foreign bodies. It would be interesting to see the autopsy report and whether they were able to identify capsular contracture in the deceased. It might give us a better time line as to when she had the procedure.

Last May <2022>, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, and the Buffalo New York Police Department assigned specialists to find relatives of 21-year-old Kathryn Grace Knox Zedick, who went missing in Buffalo in 1985. Since she is the only known missing person from that era matching the victim’s description, we hope to compare Kathryn’s DNA to that of a young lady found in Lake Pontchartrain in 1986.

Is she really the only known missing person matching the victim's description? Because of? Am I the only one that's not convinced of this statement? If it is, they must have far more information about the MP then the general public has.

I totally would like to see Slidell identified and I'm happy there are trying to bring Ms. Zedick "home" and are working to confirm a match between the two through DNA. Don't want to sound bold but for me, for now, this possibility does look like any other reasonable fitting MP in the system we all came up with in the prior years and were ruled out.

Who knows maybe we are going to be surprised. I really hope this is it.

I hope they are making progress with Lady in the Lake. I haven’t heard or seen any updates.
She reminds me of Linda Carroll missing from FL in 1984. (Not likely) but I think they look so much alike.

Has anyone heard anything?

I'm afraid, when she is ever identified, that she will not look like the recon we all know at all.
Yes, I’m afraid you’re right. I try not to put too much stock in the recons but sometimes there are unique marks or scars to compare but not so much in this case. I am so anxious for this little lady to be named and brought home. I know you are also. Can’t wait for that day.

One thing intriguing is that Linda Carroll had a scar on her right hip, not sure to what extent but JD is also noted as having a previously fractured right hip.

I do think that Linda permanently disappeared at the time of her DLC so JD is not a likely match so just watching and waiting. I feel it’s close.

Could this be related to later murrder in September, 1987 occurring in Fontainebleau State Park? The murder has a bizarre and sad story. The perp was in the army and they caught him when he was marching in a Veteran’s day parade. What.is sadder is the victim’s father was murdered five years before . Does anyone remember this case?

Was there ever an attempt to get DNA from the remains of the fetus - like when she was exhumed in 2003, etc? That was done in the case of the Westlake Village 1980 Jane Doe in CA. Genetic genealogy hadn't identified her. The father of her baby ( who was not a suspect, she was defintely murdered by a serial killer) was identified, but claimed he remembered nothing about her. She still hasn't been identified, being Hispanic, and Native American, etc. But anyway, she wasn't that much farther along than this Doe, four months or so. Was this Doe just too early in pregnancy for them to be able to get DNA from the remains of the baby? Even if this Doe is identified through genetic genealogy herself, who fathered her child could be very relevant as it could be related to her death in this case.
