Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory issued by troopers

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Troopers have issued a Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory for a 2-year-old boy from the Lafayette area.

According to Louisiana State Police, 2-year-old Kaizor Louis was last seen around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, in St. Martinville.

Troopers said Louis was taken by his non-custodial mother from his daycare and was last seen traveling south on Resweber Street in a black sedan.

The child is believed to be traveling with Meshaya Johnson and could be headed to a home in Houston, Texas, according to LSP.

Troopers described Johnson as being about 5-foot-3 and weighing 130 pounds. They said she has black hair and brown eyes.

The child is described by troopers as being about two feet tall and weighing about 25 pounds. Authorities said the child was last seen wearing a lime green t-shirt and yellow shorts.

Anyone with information that can help authorities is urged to contact the St. Martinville Police Department by calling (337) 394-3001 or by calling 911.

I never post here so apologies if I mess up, however as someone who works in childcare (I’m a Pre-K teacher) how in the world could a non-custodial parent pick up a child?! We cannot release children to an adult we are unfamiliar with or that are not listed as the child’s designated pick up person without both written and verbal consent from that designated person.

That was my first thought as well…how did they release the child to her?

Johnson and Louis were seen traveling in a black sedan on Resweber Street and are believed to be travelling to a residence in Houston, which is 210 miles away and roughly a 3.5 to four hour drive from St. Martinville.

Welcome to Websleuths! You ask a question that popped in my mind too. Would like your insights as a pre-K teacher as we learn more details about what happened.

I hope I am right, but my hunch is this little guy will be found safe.

I'm wondering that if she lives in Houston, the daycare in Louisiana might not have been informed that she is non-custodial. Perhaps whoever is the other parent/guardian didn't think the mom would travel to pick him up, so never informed the daycare to take her off the list of approved people at pick-up? IDK.

Is it known that the mother had lost all rights to have contact with the child or not? Maybe the non-custodial decision was recent, and the daycare hadn't been updated yet.

Some of the questions that are being asked about the daycare will be answered if you read the comment of the grandmother RWL on the police FB page, and also the reply by DL to a comment by KVS. DL works at the daycare and also replies to RWL's comment.

Another reminder that LE has certain language they use in official reports and certain amounts of info they give to the public and that sometimes you have to read between the lines or accept that what has been publicly released may not be the whole story.

The police chief spoke about the case today and confirmed the details that were given by the grandmother and daycare worker in the comments on the police FB page.

It happened in the parking lot of the daycare. The grandmother was holding the baby. The non-custodial mother, who was wearing a disguise, attacked the grandmother from behind, knocked her down and grabbed the baby.

The daycare workers immediately reacted to the incident, said St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin.

“They called 911. They tried to stop the person. They did everything they could do in their power. So, yeah, definitely nothing falls back on them for sure,” he said, and that Johnson was wearing a disguise when she took the boy.

*****
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police and local law enforcement worked together in the search to find the missing boy.
*****
Martin said it is possible that Johnson will face charges of aggravated kidnapping and simple battery.

Yay! My hunch was he would be found safe. I'm sure the grandmother will remember this incident every time she picks up the little guy - so unfair to put that burden of memory on her. I wish her well.
