Ghassemi, 67, is accused of hiring Daniel Richter, 33, of Walker; Tyler Ashpaugh, 20, of Denham Springs; and Skyler Williams, 17, of Denham Springs, to execute the murder of Taherah Ghassemi, 54, who was reported missing on April 11, 2015.

The day after Taherah was reported missing, her car was found on fire and empty on Chalma Avenue near Choctaw Drive.

Taherah’s body was later found in a heavily wooded-area in St. Helena Parish. Autopsy reports show she had been shot, burned and buried.

Ashpaugh was initially charged with first degree murder, but he entered a guilty plea on July 12, 2018 due to a plea deal. His charge was reduced to manslaughter in exchange for his testimony against his co-defendants.

Ghassemi, 70, was scheduled to stand trial March 1 on a first-degree murder charge, but a new date will have to be selected because the Louisiana Supreme Court on Thursday extended a statewide moratorium on trials through March 31 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. Ghassemi, who continues to represent himself after firing several attorneys, would be sentenced to life in prison if convicted as charged.

The youngest of four men accused of being involved in a domestic murder-for-hire case pleaded guilty to criminal charges in a Baton Rouge courtroom Monday, according to court records.

Skyler Williams, 25, was slated to be tried for first-degree murder this week at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse for his role in the April 11, 2015 slaying of Tahereh Ghassemi. Instead, he opted to plead guilty to manslaughter, East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore confirmed.

Ghassemi's trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 7, according to court records. A state judge set Williams' sentencing hearing to be held two days later.

Thursday on “Dateline,” after Tahereh Ghassemi disappears from the Louisiana home she shares with her adult son, detectives discover that she had recently come into a great deal of money.

The investigation reveals an astonishing plot with international implications.

This is the story of an Iranian mother who came to America to be with her family. A family that built a small fortune selling luxury vehicles.

Then one day, she disappeared.

One of the cars from the lot would provide a clue that would unlock this mystery, and unravel a years-long bitter feud.
