MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police were alerted Sunday morning about a small boy found alone near the 1860 block of SW 68th Ave.

Search for boy’s parents continues in South Florida
Updated: July 27, 2020, 12:48 pm

''Lori Rodriguez ‚who helped search for the boy’s parents, told Local 10 that a neighbor had seen the child wandering and had been asking around to see if anyone knew anything about him.

“We walked around and looked to see if anyone was nearby. None of us have ever seen the baby before,” she said.

That’s when they called police. According to an Miramar police spokesman, authorities spent more 90 minutes canvassing the area and knocking on doors nearby to find anyone who may have known who the child was or, hopefully, find a parent or guardian.''

''The boy remains in the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Anyone with information about his identity or his parents or guardian’s identity is urged to contact the Miramar Police Department at (954) 602-4000.''

Once we have conclusively confirmed the child’s identity, we will post an update on our social media platforms. We want to thank the community for their outpouring of love and support for this little boy. Many of you have written to donate diapers or to welcome him into your home. We sincerely appreciate all of your offers. The little boy is currently being cared for by a foster parent and has been provided with the necessary items. The best assistance you have provided has been by sharing his picture and helping us receive tips. Thank you!

Woman claims child found wandering Miramar is nephew, police have not confirmed
''However, Gina Lewis, an Alabama woman, tells 7News the child is her nephew, Kamdyn, and is her sister’s 2-year-old son.

“That is my nephew 100 percent,” Lewis said.''
''Lewis said she is relieved the boy is safe, but now she is worried about her sister, 21-year-old Leila Cavett, who had been living in Georgia.

“Only the worst things possible are going through my mind because I know my sister, and she might do some crazy things sometimes, but she would never leave Kamdyn. She would never leave him,” Lewis said.

Lewis said she learned about the incident through social media. She said she is in contact with police and is hoping someone can help her find her sister.

“It would mean everything to find her and know that she’s safe because this is just out of character,” Lewis said.

Miramar Police have not confirmed the child’s identity. However, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia is asking for information on Leila Cavett. If you have any information, call the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 302-6464''

Police in Florida search for mother of boy found wandering alone
July 28 2020 rbbm.
''Cavett, according to her Facebook page, lives in Atlanta. Police said she was last seen driving a mid-to-late 90s white Chevy 3500, with a red tailgate and a “Baby on Board” sign on the passenger window.''

''During a news conference Monday, Ebony Williams told reporters she saw the little boy in the parking lot and figured the child's mother must be close by. She said she got out of her truck and heard him crying.

“I asked him ‘Where’s your mommy?’ and he just kind of pointed kind of everywhere,” Williams said.''

''She said he wasn't able to communicate, it was all baby talk.''

Mom of wandering toddler has ties to Walker County

''A woman believed to be the mother of a toddler found wandering outside an apartment complex in Miramar, Florida, on Sunday has ties to Walker County.

Walker County Sheriff's Office Investigator Carl Carpenter said Leila Cavett, 21, has lived in Walker County in the past and currently has a pending court case here but is not considered to be missing from Walker County.

Her Facebook page lists her as living in Atlanta. Court records list her address as Muscle Shoals.

"We don't have any reason to believe that she is anywhere else but southern Florida," said Carpenter, the major crimes/missing person investigator at WCSO.

"She's very close to her child from what we understand. I believe whatever the circumstances were in Florida for her child to turn up down there, I don't have any reason not to believe that she is down there, and I have a lot of concern about her if the child was by himself," Carpenter said.''

''The last time Cavett was confirmed to be in Walker County was in October 2019, according to Carpenter.

According to court documents, Cavett was arrested in Cordova on drug charges in September and received two traffic tickets in October. Cavett failed to appear on the traffic violations at a court date in February, which resulted in her driver's license being suspended in March.''

https://twitter.com/nancygrace/status/1288276098074148864?s=21

“Family members have called Cavett’s cellphone numerous times but it rings and rings until her voicemail picks up. Cavett’s grandmother, the last person in the family to have contact with her, reportedly received a “thumb’s up” message from her via Facebook messenger on July 26.

The family told CBS Miami that Cavett is a single mother and has no relationship with the child’s father.”

Police have video in case of missing woman believed to be mother of boy found in Miramar
''Police returned to the neighborhood where, they said, 2-year-old Kamdyn was found wandering alone on Sunday.

Detectives have confirmed they have surveillance video but are not releasing the footage at this point because they are still working the case.

Earlier on Tuesday, Cavett’s sisters arrived at the Miramar Police headquarters to get an update on the search and investigation.

“It’s just starting to become a lot more real now, and I definitely just want to know that my sister is OK,” said Gina Lewis, one of the siblings.''
