Search set for Stacy and Lisa

Volunteers will comb new territory Saturday for any trace of two missing local women.

It has been more than a month since Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson vanished, and seven months since Plainfield mom Lisa Stebic disappeared.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Westbrook Christian Church, 1175 Lily Cache Lane in Bolingbrook. State police will point them to new search areas, planners say.
Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Stacy's family, said they are planning to hold a candlelight vigil outside the Peterson house at 4 p.m. Saturday.

"We're not just looking for Stacy," Bosco said, mentioning Stebic.

Lisa Stebic's family does not begrudge Stacy Peterson for catching the public eye.

The family of the Plainfield woman who went missing seven months ago says they are just amazed her case gathered national media attention. Now the spotlight should be on Peterson - a Bolingbrook woman who disappeared Oct. 28 - said family spokesperson Melanie Greenberg.

"I know it's amazing that we had the attention we did as long as we did, and it's only right that Stacy's case is getting the attention it's getting right now," Greenberg said.

JOLIET - Lisa Stebic's parents and grandparents are taking Craig Stebic to court for visitation rights.

In a petition filed Nov. 19 in Will County Circuit Court, they claim their son-in-law has prohibited contact between his children and his missing wife's parents and grandparents.

Lisa Stebic's parents and grandparents are fighting their son-in-law to court for the right to visit his children.

In a petition filed Nov. 19 in Will County Circuit Court, they claim Craig Stebic, of Plainfield, has prohibited contact between his children and his missing wife's parents and grandparents.

Dion Davi, Craig Stebic's attorney, said Stebic has offered visits with the children, ages 11 and 12, to the Ruttenberg family and received no response.

"We are disappointed that we were forced to file this motion," said Melanie Greenberg, a spokeswoman for Lisa's family. "The pleading speaks for itself."

She declined to comment further.

Also Thursday, former TV reporter Amy Jacobson testified before the special grand jury, which also is examining the April 30 disappearance of Lisa Stebic of Plainfield.

Stebic, 37, vanished from her family's home, and her husband, Craig, has been named a person of interest, though he has repeatedly denied any involvement.

They were divorcing when she disappeared. Numerous searches have failed to turn up evidence.

In July, Jacobson was fired from WMAQ-Ch. 5 after a rival station aired video of her in a bikini top with a towel around her waist at the Stebic home. Jacobson has said she was on her way to the East Bank Club with her children when she got a call from Craig Stebic's sister, who invited Jacobson to the house to talk.

Jacobson's attorney, Robert Andalman, said she was subpoenaed. They declined to answer reporters' questions about her testimony.

Melanie Greenberg, Lisa Stebic's cousin and a family spokeswoman, said she was surprised to learn of Jacobson's appearance before the grand jury.

"We've been assured by the state's attorney's office that they were continuing to work on the case," she said. "We knew there was a grand jury because the children were called before it in November."

JOLIET -- Lisa Stebic's father-in-law testified Thursday before a Will County grand jury investigating Lisa's disappearance, sources say.

Joe Stebic, Craig Stebic's dad, would not comment after leaving the county building Thursday afternoon. His attorney, Steven C. Haney, would not confirm Stebic was at the building as a grand jury witness.

Jim and Laurrie Bingenheimer, Craig and Lisa Stebic's friends and neighbors, told the grand jury Thursday what they remembered about April 30, the day Lisa went missing.

VISITATION REQUEST

JOLIET -- On Valentine's Day, a Will County judge could consider a request for visitation with Lisa Stebic's children.

The missing mom's parents and grandparents, Lawrence and Judith Ruttenberg and Milton and Charlotte Ruttenberg, say Lisa's husband Craig Stebic has prohibited them from contacting the two children.

Stebic's attorney Dion Davi said Stebic has offered visits with his kids, ages 11 and 12, to the Ruttenberg family but got no response.

In November, the Ruttenbergs filed a petition in Will County Circuit Court seeking visitation rights. The lawyers involved met Monday, but no visitation decisions were made. A Feb. 14 date was set to meet again.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled today on the badly decomposed remains found Friday by a suburban land surveyor.

JOLIET -- A Will County judge Thursday denied Craig Stebic's attempt to block his missing wife's family from seeking visits with his kids.

Stebic, whose wife, Lisa, has been missing since April 30, had filed a motion to dismiss a petition from Lisa's parents and grandparents for visitation rights to Stebic's two children, ages 11 and 12.

Lisa's parents, Lawrence and Judith Ruttenberg, and grandparents, Milton and Charlotte Ruttenberg, filed the petition in November, after they say an attempt to work out visits with Stebic was not successful.

The husband of a missing Plainfield mother is trying to get his guns and cars back from police.

Investigators seized the property from Craig Stebic last year after his wife vanished from their home.

Stebic's lawyer filed papers Thursday to have his client's guns and cars returned, saying investigators have had enough time to analyze them and have no legal right to keep them.

The case will be discussed in Will County court Tuesday morning.

Craig Stebic wants his guns and cars.

He thinks the police have had plenty of time to examine the property they seized last year. And Thursday, he filed documents in court seeking the return of everything.

Craig Stebic also has another lawyer: George Lenard, a respected criminal defense attorney from Joliet. Until now, Stebic has been represented by Dion Davi, a Wheaton-based lawyer who was handling his divorce.

Lenard has asked the court to return 24 guns, a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck and a Saturn Ion.
