Up to $3,000 reward offered to help solve 2005 Mélina Martin cold case
"Fourteen years since she disappeared, a reward of up to $3,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information about Mélina Martin’s whereabouts.

Martin, 13, vanished sometime after her mother dropped her off at a Fête des Neiges event in Farnham, 50 kilometres southeast of Montreal, on Jan. 23, 2005.

Police initially considered Martin’s disappearance to be a teenage runaway case, but her family hasn’t heard from or seen her ever since.

The Sûreté du Québec, in charge of investigating the case, and Sun Youth announced the reward on Thursday. It’s being offered by an anonymous donor and expires on May 10, 2019."

She was last seen at Roch-Bourbonnais Park in Farnham around 1:30pm. She was wearing jeans with fur on the bottom, a beige camisole, a jean vest with fur sleeves, a black coat with a fur hood, a white scarf and a beige vinyl purse with
a blue star on the side."

Missing children: 13 years later, mom still hopes Mélina will come home
"Stepping out from her car, she motions to the high school across the street.

“This is where I left her,” Algier, 61, says as she looks around. “They had made a fire pit in the park. There were dog sleds behind the school.”

Thirteen years later, she says, moments from that day still come to her in flashes.

There was the brunch together in the morning and the pit stop at the dollar store for new gloves.
Then the last words — “yes mom, thanks” — after reminding Mélina to meet at a nearby fast-food restaurant at 5 p.m. And, finally, the image of her daughter running across the street, her younger sister’s winter boots on her feet.

“Having known I would never have brought her here,” Algier says, unprompted. “But you can’t know.”

Mélina Martin, 13, vanished sometime after Algier left her at a Fête des Neiges event in Farnham, roughly 65 kilometres east of Montreal, on Jan. 23, 2005. Police initially considered her disappearance to be a teenage runaway case. But her family hasn’t heard from or seen Mélina in the 13 years since.

Last Thursday, the Missing Children’s Network announced a new campaign that will see posters with Mélina’s photo featured on 50 trucks travelling across Canada and parts of the United States.

Three other children are on the posters as well: 10-year-old Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou, missing from Montreal since March 12, 2018; Maisy Odjick, 16, and Shannon Alexander, 17, both last seen in Maniwaki on Sept. 6, 2008.

The network hopes the campaign can shake loose new leads or information about the disappearances. For Algier, it’s the latest effort in a long list of attempts to find out what happened to her daughter.

“We keep hoping this will end with something happening. That there will be good news somehow,” she says. “Whether she ran away or it was something else, someone knows something about Mélina.”

"Mélina never made it to the Valentine restaurant where she was supposed to meet her mother.

After waiting all night for a call, Algier went to Mélina’s school the next day only to find out she hadn’t come in for class, either. Algier and Mélina’s siblings went through her locker and pulled her room apart at home, searching every pocket and book for some sort of note left behind, but didn’t find anything.

Algier tracked down the dog sled organizers and anyone who was at the park that day, but no one could confirm they saw Mélina there."
Anyone with information about Mélina Martin’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Missing Children’s Network at 514 843-4333. All calls are confidential.
