The mother of a man whom ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez was convicted of killing says the ex-NFL star will always be guilty in her family's eyes.
Ursula Ward, the mother of Odin Lloyd, fought back tears as she addressed reporters Tuesday after a judge agreed to erase Hernandez's conviction in her son's 2013 murder.

What a punch in the gut! I felt like I was waiting for a verdict all over again! My heart goes out to Odins mom and family. I watched her press conference and felt so bad...even though she composed herself, I cried.
Does this really mean the Patriots have to pay up? Anyone know?

I have never seen the actual contract :dunno:

It just kills me that this is a win for Shayanna! The lying "I don't remember which dumster I threw the evidence in". He murdered at least 3 people, one he was convicted of and his family is going to be "paid" for it in one way or another. Makes me sick....

Yeah well, something needs to change! This is just wrong!

IIRC from reading when first brought up, it has been on the books for decades. Happened in that case where the priest was killed i same prison.

Conviction vacated

The Massachusetts Appeals Court vacated the child molestation conviction of former priest John Geoghan, who was killed in prison while his appeal was pending.

The ruling is customary under Massachusetts law when convicts die mid-appeal and attorneys seek to have their convictions voided, but it still disappointed Geoghan's victims.

"It's as though the reporting of father John J. Geoghan's sexual abuse, his trial and the jury decision never existed," said Mitchell Garabedian, who represents many of the defrocked priest's alleged victims. He said the law should be changed. http://cjonline.com/stories/092703/pag_conviction.shtml#.WRI_C0XyvIU

Massachusetts Will Appeal Judge's Decision To Vacate Aaron Hernandez Murder Conviction

Snip
Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg had argued that Hernandez forfeited his legal rights by committing suicide and that he killed himself aware of the archaic law that would lead to his conviction being overturned.

But Judge E. Susan Garsh, who had sentenced Hernandez to life in prison after overseeing his trial in the same courtroom, didn't accept the state's argument.

Garsh ruled the abatement doctrine is well established in Massachusetts and other states. She said it has been practiced for more than a century and she had no choice but to follow the law.

She said the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was incorrect that the U.S. Supreme Court had rejected the doctrine last year.

Garsh mentioned that the Commonwealth argued Hernandez's intention when he killed himself was to abandoned his right to appeal. But she rejected that position, saying the cases the commonwealth used to argue the point were not relevant to this case.

It was pretty much a done deal that this was going to happen. It is a law in many states. Read some on it a while back. Doesn't mean I agree with it. Probably like most of you and everyone else reading/listening about it never heard of it either. But the same thing happen to the Catholic Priest that molested those young boys for years. John J. Geoghan. He was incarcerated in the same prison, and murdered there by another inmate who was already serving a LWOP. All they did since no DP in Mass, he is now serving 2 LWOP. JMHO probably how it became known to inmates in that prison anyway. JMHO

I do know all about this! The judge went by the law, unfortunately she had no choice. Still, something needs to change! Not fair AH's family could benefit from this!

Shouldn't there be a "suicide clause" that precludes this abatement?

'Just wishing....

absolutely should be...this law is so archaic. I am very very certain Garsh did not feel good about what she had to do...i just saw in the faces of Odlin's family the question..."what kind of justice is this"" and I so agree with them. Lets just hope that this does not continue with money payouts etc.

My friend, who is close with Odin's family, is wondering the same... this is terrible.
I don't know, at this point, what they are going to do.
They would have to try AH all over again in a criminal trial, then the civil trial.
What a heartbreaking, unjust mess.

I not saying I agree with that law, but it is not like it was made for AH. And from reading looks like it has tried in past to change. Even if it were to get changed now, JMHO it wouldn't have any effect on AH cases.

Clearly no real winners.

Aaron Hernandez's grief-stricken fiancée has spoken out for the first time since his suicide last month.
Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez sat down for an interview with Dr. Phil which will air in two parts next Monday and Tuesday.
In the interview, Shayanna said that she had no idea her childhood sweetheart had plans to hang himself in his jail cell, despite his suicide letter which said that he told her 'what was coming indirectly'.
'I felt like we were looking so bright. We were going up a ladder to a positive direction,' Shayanna said of their last conversation.

Well, that didn't take long... wonder who set that up? Do you really think that she'll answer any questions after she has never in a court of law. She must have been taping this show as OL's family was crying leaving the courtroom yesterday.
