Most people who use Craigslist are simply looking for used exercise equipment, furniture or maybe a new roommate, but some use the site to either advertise for or seek out “Erotic Services.” Phillip Markoff’s alleged victim had posted such an ad and had arranged to meet Markoff at the hotel where she was eventually found murdered. In the aftermath of the crime, changes have been made to Craigslist, removing the “Erotic Services” section. In addition, some lawmakers are calling for legislation that would ban such ads from being posted to begin with.

Philip Markoff's indictment on charges of first-degree murder and other crimes moves his case from district court to Superior Court, where he is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. The indictments were returned late Thursday and announced Sunday.

The 23-year-old upstate New York native who had been living in Quincy is being held without bail after pleading not guilty in district court.

I saw an interview this a.m. and the person said it'll probably be a year before this comes to trial.

Accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff pleads not guilty

BOSTON -- A former Boston medical student pleaded not guilty today to charges he lured a masseuse he met through Craigslist to a Boston hotel, then bound her, beat her and shot her to death with a gun authorities say he later stashed in a hollowed-out medical textbook.
Philip Markoff firmly stated "not guilty" when asked how he pleaded to the seven charges including kidnapping, armed robbery and weapons violations, then stared straight ahead as prosecutors outlined their case during a brief arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court.

Not guilty... why am I not surprised? :shakehead: He doesn't have a prayer at trial, can't even imagine what his defense will be.

Yeah, I understand his attorney tried to wave hearing the 'evidence' but the pros did it anyway.

He wanted to waive hearing the evidence because Markoff was not seeking bail. He thinks hearing the evidence will taint the jury pool. No, I think Markoff did that all by himself!

What is the ex doing? Is she still around? I haven't been able to keep up with anything lately.

Hi Chicagofa, Yesterday I heard a news blurb on TV saying she is cooperating with LE.

They also said one of his crimes agains a lady was so violent it was an indicator of what his capabilities are. He attacked her immediately in a very violent manner and was in and out of her place very quickly. I'll try to find a link to that. xox

(bolded by me)

I hope so.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but his fiance did have a second meeting with him (sorry if I am repeating old news).

Just a comment on his looks---not that it means a person is guilty, but he's got the smarmiest-looking mouth since Scott Peterson. ugh

"Casino bills part of Philip Markoff case"

The Boston Herald is reporting on some of the items that have been turned over to the defense in discovery. Too bad there are no sunshine laws in Massachusetts...

Among other items, "The evidence also includes a 78-page transcript of law enforcement’s interview with Markoff’s former fiancee Megan McAllister on April 20 - the day Markoff, 23, was arrested in Walpole as the couple were headed to Foxwoods in Connecticut."

They are just doing this now, believe? Seems like they should have already taken his DNA to compare it, dontcha think?

I know-isnt it odd? Here is my guess...there are some DNA samples they have that are not matching up to the women they have OR they have a new victim.

Markoff's attorney has been pretty on top of fighting the request...really they do not need DNA from him because the case is pretty solid. They have him on video at the crime scene locations, they have the computer evidence and they have the murder weapon as well as trophies in his apartment. Imagine what evidence they have not released!! I agree with the defense that this is a fishing expedition, but I bet that Philip has some unsolved crimes in his past...just a guess.

Oh I bet you are so right. I read the story about this case in Vanity Fair awhile back.

As you said, they have a very good deal of evidence on Markoff already. I can only imagine what else might be lurking...
