Back in March, the state tried to charge Karen Read and Turtleboy with witness intimidation but the grand jury refused to indict. It's a notoriously low bar to get a grand jury indictment, so the evidence must have been pretty weak.

Hmmm...

One wonders if the judge in KR's trial ( Canone ) was aware of this. You know, before she allowed the 'victims' ie 'witnesses' to cry on the stand about it. Also, she apparently kicked him ( a journalist ) out of the courtroom during their performances. Did she know? That there wasn't even spam, let alone a ham sandwich to indict?

Curiouser and curiouser....

I'm confused. The quoted MSM dated 10/10/24 cites the GJ failed to return a true bill to add more criminal charges to Karen Read and Aidan Kearney, but doesn't cite the date. The article goes on to cite how the special prosecutor requested the panel indict the pair in March but does not make it clear if they were in fact indicted then, but that Kearney goes to trial in December. Huh??

These were new charges they were trying to bring against Kearney but along with Read this time. This grand jury was convened earlier this year in attempt to get indictments against both. The idea seems to be that they wanted to arrest Read (and Kearney again) because she was directing his alleged ongoing harassment of the people in the house the night JO was killed. The police had seized Read's phone, raided her house and pulled all her phone records.

Seems the grand jury wasn't impressed. TB/Kearney's trial for witness intimidation is supposed to start later this year.

It's interesting that the grand jury hearing was in March just a couple of weeks before the trial was set to begin.

It would have been very bad publicity for the defense just days before jury selection, potentially poisoning the pool. Plus it would have also allowed the judge to revoke KR's bond. She might have spent the entire trial in jail. It would have put a damper into the courthouse protests if the FKR folks could never see her and it would have impacted how she could communicate with her attorneys during the trial.

Even if they knew they had a really weak case on the intimidation, the DA could have just waited until after the trial was over and dropped the charges. They'd still benefit from the advantage in the meantime.

BOOM!

" Attorneys representing the American Civil Liberties Union on Wednesday submitted a brief to Massachusetts' highest court in the case of Karen Read's effort to get some of the charges dropped in her murder case."

I would still like to know why there hasn't been any investigation in to whether the prosecution purposely showed the inverted video knowingly trying to mislead the jury! I sincerely believe there was misconduct in this case; including some jury intimidation by having the angry family members and more importantly angry looking LE staring the jury down on the last day.

Tully OUT! Detective Lt. Brian Tully transferred out of Norfolk County District Attorney’s office

" Massachusetts State Police Detective Brian Tully has been transferred out of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office, the law enforcement agency said Friday,

Tully served as the Norfolk County State Police Detective Unit Commander and is the subject of an internal investigation related to the Karen Read murder case this past summer."

Just like dominos! Let the dominos fall. Anyone who breached the public trust by this witch hunt should be out!

The Dateline episode was SO much better and more balanced than 20/20. They showed Karen hit the other vehicle and you could actually see it move.

When I first started following this case I assumed she was guilty but after following it even after a few days, my attitude changed. I'm really glad Dateline showed more balanced coverage.

And judicial misconduct.

I DVR-ed it and just finished watching the recording. I'm surprised that I'd never heard of this case before, but glad that I only wasted less than 2 hours on it. Had I been on the jury, I would have voted not guilty, based on inconsistencies between John's injuries and the damage to Karen's vehicle. MOO

Yes, the injuries to JOK were too extensive if KRs car was backing up at only 24mph. The position of the tail light compared to his upright body do not line up. What about the severe head trauma or scratches and cuts on his arm.

I just became aware of this case via watching Dateline last week--- Let me say I love Alan Jackson- I remember him as a top notch prosecutor in Los Angeles winning some big cases-- I believe he has integrity and if he believes this woman is innocent, and he clearly does (and backs it up with convincing evidence), that is good enough for me. I believe if he thought she was guilty, he would not take her case.
