All we know of Burke Ramsey or any other celebrity-by-crime is what they choose to reveal via the press. And assuming that anybody is "average" simply because they graduated from high school and attending college is not very logical, really.

For the rest of their lives, no matter what they achieve or do, the twins will be referred to as "siblings of Madeleine McCann who...." however the sentence ends.

No matter what you think happened to Madeleine, it's naive to think that the twins will not at some point in their lives have to deal with that as well.

Illogical? Naive? BS

I would define naive as not knowing in the cynical or worldly sense, which is what the dictionary defines it as also. I would define myself as naive also as to what children in situations like the twins, or children of celebrities, particularly ones who are not so completely insulated in the celebrity world, live with as they grow up, until rather recently.

We are personally acquainted with children of a celebrity who died a couple of years ago in a rather public and notorious way. The children are well-adjusted, hard-working, and really nice kids, but it did not happen that way by accident, but by the hard work and efforts of the surviving parent. Growing up is hard enough these days without having a last name that makes everyone immediately know not only who you are, but what happened to your family as well.

Even children who lose family members in the more ordinary ways struggle to cope. I had one student who lost a mother and became almost selectively mute. I know a student who lost a twin brother this year to cancer and has to deal with that.

I think the twins will be blessed with a supportive community that will allow them to be as normal as possible, and I am glad for their sakes.

McCann's Face Difficult Christmas

The parents of Madeleine McCann thanked their supporters as they prepared for "an incredibly difficult" Christmas.
Gerry and Kate McCann revealed that they had been inundated with media inquiries about their plans for what is set to be a heart-rending time without their missing four-year-old daughter.
In a brief statement issued through their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, they said: "We have had many inquiries as to our plans for the festive period. Christmas 2007 will be an incredibly difficult time for us if Madeleine is not found before then.
"We plan to have a very quiet, private Christmas with family in the UK. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last seven months and ask you to stay with us as the search for our daughter continues.

Can't wait to read the spirit filled comments about the above article.

And a last name that people have dragged through the mud.

The twins not only have to contend and live with the fact that their sister Maddie disappeared but also have to live with the fact that people think their parents harmed/hid/disposed of their sister.

I hope and pray people who hate and accuse the twin's parents of wrong doing use caution when around the twins.

Most of us hope and pray that the parents had nothing to do with this, and that Maddie gets to come home soon.

However, do you think that if we stop writing our opinions here it is going to make life any easier for the other children in that family? I doubt that.

I agree with that article that the McCann's are going to have a terrible Christmas for alot of reasons, few of which have to do with the discussion forums.

Kate and Gerry were tanking up even BEFORE going to the Tapas inebriation party! Great parents.

It's a sign of a true alcoholic when they have to have several drinks in private BEFORE the big drinking event of the evening.

That evening, Thursday, May 3, at just after 8pm, by their account, Kate and Gerry McCann were having a glass of wine together in apartment 5a on the ground floor of Block 5 of the Waterside Village Gardens at the Ocean Club. Their three children were asleep in the front bedroom overlooking the car park and, beyond it, the street. Madeleine was in the single bed nearest the door. There was an empty bed against the opposite wall, beneath the window. Between the two beds were two travel cots containing the twins: Sean and Amelie. Gerry had bought the wine at the Baptista supermarket, 200 yards down the hill. They had lived and worked in New Zealand for a year and that particular bottle, Montana sauvignon blanc, was their favourite. It was the sixth day of their week’s holiday in the Algarve and they were reflecting on the enjoyable time they’d had, how surprisingly easy it had been with the children.

From the same article:

'As they chatted, Gerry thought how lucky he was, his children asleep nearby, he and Kate free to come and enjoy some adult time at the restaurant and not have to sit with their children, as this couple were. '

What a totally selfish *advertiser censored*! Why did these two bother to have children at all, with that kind of attitude?

unfortunatley the rules of this site dont allow me to realy say what I think - but your general comments about the Mccaans and their family I find despicable - certainly calling anyone a *advertiser censored* ..........do you know what it means ?

The article chronicling the events of the case was objective, Gord. David James Smith writing for The Times today. Did you see it?

I have to agree that Gerry's comments are a sad commentary on how he feels about 'adult time' away from his children.

I will never understand why they didn't hire a babysitter to stay with the children at night. It is simply unconscionable.

That's a very unfortunate phrasing, to say that Gerry felt he was "lucky" to not have to eat with his children. If that is exactly what Gerry said, that is truly unfortunate that he would not recognize how that would sound--ditto for the writer as well.

From what I have read about Gerry's upbringing, I think that in all likelihood, Gerry's father did not have much time or energy to be what we would consider a "good dad" today. Back then, a good father went to work, lived a decent life, provided for his family, but was not a "hands on" kind of father. If he stopped by the pub or bar on the way home a night or two, that was understandable. (In my childhood it was hunting or fishing.) Today, a father is expected to be outstanding in his career, a soccer coach on the weekend, and a great guy in the meantime. I really do believe that Gerry worked hard at his career, stepped in to play or be with the children for short periods, and then considered himself as deserving of some downtime in his own pursuits. He's no different than many other people in that respect, but he is different in that he doesn't seem to understand how it sounds to say that publicly.

He doesn't seem to understand at all that many people really enjoy being with their children and regard themselves as the lucky ones.

And Gerry probably considers himself a very good father. He doesn't run around on his wife, he provides a good living for his family, and he gives them his attention even though it's for limited amounts of time. That's the best he can do and considering his own childhood, it seems pretty good to him.

That he doesn't see how it sounds to say "lucky he didn't have to be with his children" is more indicative of Gerry's inability to understand how differently other people view his words and actions.

It is really sad to me because I don't think he would ever understand that anyone else would call his words "selfish."

There's so many inconsistencies in the quoted remarks from this article it's almost unbelievable. Gerry didn't want to unlock a door being afraid he'd wake the kids yet he went to the bathroom there in the apartment and had to of made some sort of noise. Gerry was afraid the kids would wake yet says that Madeline didn't wake up much at night anymore and twins were totally out. Madeline supposedly didn't wake at night or get in their bed that much lately even though the chart at home was full of reward stars so it had been considered a big problem yet they didn't seem to care if she woke while totally alone in a foreign place. When Madeline did awake, she got in their bed whether they were there or not yet not mentioning if she went looking for them in the home or where ever they were like most kids do. Was she afraid to? Gerry was glad that he didn't have to put up with kids during a meal in a place with no baby listening service at an early hour as if kids had no place in a restaurant. Gerry says that they could never have a meal out together as Madeline was always "disturbing" them when she was a baby as if a set of twins never cried or required attention during meals out. I noticed more things but my post is getting too long.
