I have actually been a little disappointed with the U.S. contributions to the search effort. Only a ship or two at any given time, and only a couple of aircraft.

2 April 2014

On April 2, 10 aircraft and nine ships searched an area of about 237,000 square kilometres, about 1500kms west north-west of Perth.

There were no sightings reported of any objects related to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Up to ten planes and nine ships will assist in today's search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has determined a search area of about 221,000 square kilometres,1504 kilometres North West of Perth.

Dumb 777 question.

How long should a 777 stay in commission. MH370 was built and has been flying since 2002. Is that a long time for a big plane?

According to a google search commercial airliners like the 777 are normally in service 20 years on average. It depends on the number of flight hours. Derryn and other members will be more knowledgable than me though.

Investigators have cleared all 227 passengers of any role in hijacking or sabotage and of having personal or psychological issues that might have played a role in the plane's disappearance, he said.

And a senior Malaysian government official told CNN last week that authorities have found nothing about either of the pilots to suggest a possible motive.

No such comments have been made about the rest of the crew of 12.

Also, Australia will be liaising heavily with the US .. we are militarily very close.

We all will have noticed whose vessel the US has loaded its black box locator onto. Our trust levels are high, and I have no doubt that the US will/is helping us with anything we need.

The biggest issue in terms of age number of "cycles". A cycle is a takoff, cruise, land == 1 cycle.

Operators who do short segments (fatigue) their aircraft quicker than long haul operators. The pressurizing and depress (expand/constrct) are the real wear and tear!

MANY are flying a LOT longer than 20 years! There are lots of fatigue tests carriers do that assist in making those decisions - but the biggest deteminant is how much improvement in fuel efficancy does the next generation aircraft offer! In terms of continuing to maintain an older series vs buying the next generation/

The 777 is the last generation , - it "came out" 20 years ago!

You know what guys when I was reminded of "this" it struck me like they do this with everything - bombard with a angle, a new one comes, and they never go back and followup with anythng. That is why we all are going nuts.

I think the MAl know exactly what they doing thro something out when it starts to be followed up on throw something else out they have gotten out of answering anythign they dont want to for a month .

And its the medias issue - there all so concerned with being first that this stories has more holes with each passing day.

And heck its working IMO

Been looking up commercial airlines and cargo since JerseyGirl noted the "tons of mangosteens". Well, that is a sketchy issue it seems, and the tons are not considered any problem -747's and 777's boast the ability to carry lots. It is big profit to carry the cargo, and boeing even has pdf projections for every year. However, I have found a few articles that suggest cargo is not fully checked, probably too time consumptive.

I am actually glad that each countries involvement is being vetted.

I'm a little nervous that MH370 apparently crashed so relatively close to Aussie shores, and so relatively close to various installations that we have here.

Didn't the mistress story get started because someone claimed that the pilot may have received a two minute phone call from a cell phone registered in a the fake name of a female?

The first I read about it was in the Daily Mail, and knowing them, they had no first hand info and were quoting "sources".

Is there more information about this that's credible?
