“The simulation programmes are based on runways at the Male International Airport in Maldives, an airport owned by the United States (Diego Garcia), and three other runways in India and Sri Lanka, all have runway lengths of 1,000 metres.

“We are not discounting the possibility that the plane landed on a runway that might not be heavily monitored, in addition to the theories that the plane landed on sea, in the hills, or in an open space,” the source was quoted as saying.

Was posted way earlier in one of the threads that packages for flight simulators have all kinds of landing strips, Diego Garcia included. I think Derryn posted on this subject.

The air force crew members, who fly a RNZAF P3 Orion turboprop, have been searching for more than a week now. While there are high-tech cameras on board, it's the crew's eyes that are most useful in scanning the horizon. Peering out the windows of the plane, they flick their eyes from whitecap to whitecap and regularly change positions to keep alert. They also continue the headset banter:

"What do you call eye muscles?" asks one.

"Ocular," comes the response.

"My ocular muscles are getting a real workout."

"It's a matter of resilience," someone else chimes in, echoing their slogan.

"I'll keep looking till my eyes fall out," comes the response.

"You think about a lot of things when you're on a five-hour visual search," says Wing Cmdr. Rob Shearer, the captain. "Inevitably, your mind does go back to how what you are doing affects the families. It's moved from the imperative of saving lives initially to now the imperative of finding something so that we can solve the mystery and provide closure to these families and the rest of the people who are interested in this mystery."

Rolls-Royce and Boeing should be more involved in handling the case instead of letting MAS alone to face the media and grieving family members, said Advanced Air Traffic System (AAT) Sdn Bhd.

Its chairman Datuk Zolkipli Abdul said Rolls-Royce as the engine maker and Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer are both liable to answer for the incident as the investigations have not ruled out their involvement with the incident yet.

"We have been seeing MAS handling the press conferences alone and answering on behalf of Boeing and Rolls-Royce all these while and it seems like they are trying to put the burden of proof on MAS alone."

Makes me wonder if disrespect for China is deliberately being shown, by not rushing to the scene all at once.

I see it differently. If China is purposely not cooperating and not being an active part of the Austrailian search teams orders of where they assign ships each day in a very organized fashion, then you can't expect Austrailia and the others to JUMP when some rogue China ship WHISTLES and says "Yoo Hoo...Over Here Folks".

I dont blame Austrailia at all if they are cautiously trying to get more informaiton first about what was done and how they determined the signal in the first place and what equipment they used.

KOTA KINABALU: In a curious twist to the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Australian authorities have again been drawn into an aircraft mystery with its roots in Malaysia.
More than 37 years ago, a Nomad aircraft, a twin-engine turboprop that can seat 12 passengers and two crew, plunged to the ground on its approach to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here killing all 11 on board.
It came to be known as the Double-Six Crash or Double-Six Tragedy due to the fact it took place on June 6, 1976. The plane was flying in from Labuan when it crashed as it came in to land.

Sky News reporting Australian's may head over, but are waiting for confirmation. Hopeful but cautious .. and not the first time a signal has been picked up, there was one on Friday too.

According to a Xinhua reporter on the scene, Chinese naval vessels have intensified search efforts.

Two Chinese naval ships, Jinggangshan and Kunlunshan, joined Chinese petrol ship Haixun 01 on Saturday in the search area, located between 20 to 26 degrees south latitude and 101 to 104 degrees east longitude.

Chinese missile destroyer Haikou was tasked with a search area centered at 26 degrees south latitude and 96 degrees east longitude, and Chinese supply ship Qiandaohu searched an area south of 29 degrees south latitude and 98 degrees east longitude.

The four-ship Chinese naval flotilla convened on March 30 in waters west of the Western Australian capital to coordinate the search for the missing flight.

With 154 Chinese nationals aboard the plane, Beijing responded with an unprecedented mobilization of resources for a search mission, deploying 21 satellites and sending more than ten vessels and dozens of aircraft to the search zone.

Meanwhile, China has been actively promoting international cooperation from the start. It supported Malaysia's leading role in investigating the incident, and respected Australia's role as the coordinator in the current ocean search.

Curious as to what is defined as "confirmation" here?

Early this morning (NZ time), at her home in Perth, Danica Weeks was on the phone to friends and family trying to find out details.

A friend said she had been contacted by authorities.

"They have been in touch with her," she said. "She is aware of the fact that this is happening."

She will decide in the next two weeks when to return home to Christchurch to hold a memorial for her husband.

"I can't really leave here until such time as they find something," she told the Herald on Sunday a few hours earlier. "I would hate to be there and they find something and be so far away."

Danica Weeks is now preparing to say a final farewell to the father of their two young sons, who was on the missing flight.

Danica said she would hold a public memorial in Christchurch, and the airline would pay to fly her and sons Lincoln and Jack to the city.

"Paul always said if anything should happen to him, he would be taken back to Christchurch because that's his home," said Danica.

Ive only watched CNN and they are not always reliable either but the last I heard was Austrailia search team control was trying to contact the ship and could not even contact them.

The guy on CNN said that China does not report to Austrailia at all and only reports to Beijing, and then Beijing reports to Malaysia and then Malaisia reports to Austrailia. Its a nightmare.

exactly
Just a few days ago it was reported that the FBI found nothing suspicious on the simulator..

The only thing of interest that I have heard today regarding the flight simulator is that the pilot had been "practicing" emergency landings. Not seeing anything unusual about that. Maybe I missed something!

^^Hatfield

Sigh. And then by that time all the words have been mixed up, translated too many times, and are all wrong. One big game of telephone. That game never worked!

:banghead:

CNN just played the "TICK TICK TICK" noise of the pingers and I knew it reminded me of something horrible and now I remember. It was my piano lessons "Metronome" device that had the same Ticking noise. That sound reminded me of those horrible days when I was forced to practice and I would cry because I couldnt play right.

If only my Mom had let me take guitar lessons instead of the piano that happened to be sitting in the fuyour. Bless her though. I just didnt have any musical talent and never will. :)
