A U.S. defense official told Reuters on Friday that the sea search is likely to drag on for years as it enters the much more difficult phase of scouring broader areas of the ocean near where the plane is believed to have crashed.

Speaking under condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment on the search effort, the official said Malaysia would have to decide how to proceed with the search, including whether to bring in more underwater drones.

The Australian and Malaysian governments are under pressure to show what lengths they are prepared to go to in order to give closure to the grieving families of those on board flight MH370.

CNN just told me VIA text alert, Obama was going to be giving a press conference at 1:15 AM

A strangely interesting read. IMO

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2014/04/26/dr-m-on-mh370-blame-boeing-not-mas/

“How can Boeing produce a plane that is so easily disabled? Normally it is entirely possible for the crew, the pilots and co-pilots to communicate with KLIA.
“Maybe the captain did not want to. But surely the co-pilot would want to inform ground stations that the plane was not flying according to the scheduled route,” said Mahathir, in his latest blog post.

Hmm he went to Malaysia - that seems significant. But I feel like the significance may be that they want to tactfully end the search...

No comment to Obama...

There is much data that hasn't been screened by many countries involved. jmo

Virgin Airline planes are white and red. They have flights to and from Male to Australia. Is it possible that it was a Virgin Airlines flight that was seen and that is why we have not heard anything?

Incredible A330-200 Maldives Cockpit Landing HD - YouTube

This Swiss aircraft is also white and red.

Are you 100% sure Virgin Airline have flights between Australia-Male (Maldvives)? Can you help find it on official link online?

Here is current info...

According to the list above and according to Virgin Airlines websites:
Virgin Airlines (colours White & Red) does not currently seem to operate any flights to Maldives at all according
to their Virgin Australia nor Virgin Atlantic website's, check Virgin Airlines Flight Destinations here:

However Swiss does indeed fly to Maldives both according to:

Residents "low-flying jumbo jet" sightings of Kuda Huvadhoo in Dhaal Atoll in the Maldives.

What needs to be investigated are the Swiss Air Flight Times, did they have arriving or departuring flights 8 March at around
sighting time which was 06:15 AM in the morning ?!

Note how Huvadhoo Atoll & Addu Atoll are located down south of Male Atoll (Malé International Airport known as 'Ibrahim Nasir International Airport')!

"Residents of Kuda Huvadhoo in Dhaal Atoll in the Maldives reportedly saw a "low-flying jumbo jet" flying over houses
early in the morning of March 8, the same day Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 went missing.
In a report by Maldivian daily Haveeru, residents described the aircraft which flew over Kuda Huvadhoo at around 6.15am as being white,
with red stripes across it.
This colour scheme is very similar to the livery used by Malaysia Airlines on its aircraft - including the Boeing 777 used for MH370.
Eyewitnesses who saw the aircraft agreed that it was travelling in a north to south east heading towards Addu, the southern tip of the
Maldives, and all commented on the very loud noise the aircraft made when flying over the island.
One noted that the doors on the aircraft could be seen clearly, a fact that was also agreed upon by other eyewitnesses.
"Some people got out of their houses to see what was causing the tremendous noise too," said the eyewitness"."
"based on satellite data obtained since MH370 disappeared from Malaysian radars at 2.15am on March 8."
From MSM: The Star published March 18, 2014:

"Maldives island residents report sighting of 'low flying jet'".
"Eyewitnesses from the Kuda Huvadhoo concurred that the aeroplane was travelling North to South-East, towards
the Southern tip of the Maldives – Addu. They also noted the incredibly loud noise that the flight made when it flew over the island.
"I've never seen a jet flying so low over our island before. We've seen seaplanes, but I'm sure that this was not one of those.
I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly," said an eyewitness.
"It's not just me either, several other residents have reported seeing the exact same thing. Some people got out of their houses
to see what was causing the tremendous noise too."
Mohamed Zaheem, the Island Councilor of Kuda Huvadhoo, said that the residents of the island had spoken about the incident."
"A local aviation expert told Haveeru that it is "likely" for MH370 to have flown over the Maldives.
The possibility of any aircraft flying over the island at the reported time is extremely low, the expert added. "

Similar research online can be done for any 'JumboJet' looking planes flying over the Maldives.
Other White planes with Red colour stripes across on them according to the
List of Airlines flying in/out of Maledives Flight Information, visit: http://www.fis.com.mv
could be for example in addition to Malaysian Airlines be for example (following planes have 'Red coloured' stripe across the plane):

- Air India (Photo: http://www.airplane-pictures.net/pho...oeing-777-200/ )

Info that nees to be checked is: Flight Routes ? /Flight times ? (Daily or Weekly Departure/Arrival to/from Maldives) / Plane Type in use for
Maldives flights? / Possible Airline Codeshare agreements.

A codeshare agreement, sometimes simply codeshare, is an aviation business arrangement where two or more airlines share the same flight.
A seat can be purchased on one airline but is actually operated by a cooperating airline under a different flight number or code.

Search zone for MH370 broadened

April 27, 2014 5:11PM

THE search area for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight has been expanded after the Bluefin-21 underwater drone found no trace of the passenger jet.

The automated underwater vehicle (AUV) has completed sidescan sonar work in a narrowed-down circular zone 10km in radius, 1584km north west of Perth, which centred on an acoustic ping detected on April 8.

Other man-made acoustic signals were picked up in the vicinity on April 5.

Former Malaysian PM lays blame on Boeing for MH370 disappearance

April 27, 2014 - 6:26PM

Malaysia’s former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has questioned whether flight MH370 crashed into the southern Indian Ocean and has blamed Boeing, the plane’s maker, for its disappearance.

Dr Mahathir, who maintains a powerful influence in his country’s ruling party, also suggested the reason why the passengers and crew never acted to stop whatever was happening on board was because they were “somehow incapacitated".

“Even if the pilot wants to commit suicide, the co-pilot and the cabin crew would not allow him to do so without trying something,” he said.

“But no one, not even the passengers, did anything.”

Really? I don't think Boeing should be held responsible for the plane's disappearance. Even if it happened due to a mechanical issue, Malaysia Airlines should have corrected whatever the problem was. Once Boeing issues a statement regarding a mechanical problem, it's now up to the airlines with those planes to fix the issue-not Boeing.

Just another example of Malaysia laying blame on someone else...

Snipped for space.
Most airlines have planes departing/arriving at the same time every day.
All we'd have to do is check the Swiss Air website and see if they have daily flights going to or coming from Male at that specified time.

But IMO, I don't think the Maldives locals saw a Swiss Air flight. They were describing the plane they saw as an unfamiliar plane flying unusually low and that its colors seemed to match the tail colors of MA. If this plane was flying that low, I can't see it being a scheduled flight for the area.

I cant find my post about the Fact/Myth but it kinda said the same thing the PM said.

Virgin Airlines also is white and red. Maldives on average is 6 foot above sea level. Flat with no elevations so it is possible a flight leaving Male early in the morning could have flown low over the area where it was reported. We have heard nothing since and certainly the radar would have picked up an unidentified plane in the area of the Male airport and alerted. It is such a wide open area that somehow a plane not scheduled to land there would not go undetected. jmo
