Vladimir Putin employs a full-time food taster to ensure his meals aren't poisoned

"If you were Vladimir Putin, you could be forgiven for feeling a little paranoid right now, as the Western world takes turns to blame, excoriate, vilify and condemn you over the Malaysian airline disaster. You might well wonder whether a bullet, a Jiffy bag full of ricin or a lunchtime polonium sandwich were most likely to be the means of your imminent dispatch from this life. So it's no surprise to learn that the Russian president employs a professional food taster on his full-time staff.

The news emerged from this week's meeting in London of the Club des Chefs des Chefs, the members of which prepare meals for heads of state and world leaders."

Stalin and other Russian leaders did the same. Russia has history with poisoning.

Investigators have found a previously undiscovered part of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 along with more bodies more than a week after the Boeing 777 was shot down over eastern Ukraine.

"It almost appeared out of nowhere because there were no tell-tale signs, no broken branches, nothing to indicate that a piece of fuselage had landed there."

Mr Bociurkiw said investigators were also closely examining the area of the crash site where the cockpit had landed.

"The other thing the investigators took an interest in was the cockpit area because there are still personal and professional belongings of the crew in there," he said.

Please let everyone be safe & stay safe :scared::scared:

I fear there are going to be more deaths if armed, foreign troops go into the crash area. Ukraine rebels will regard them as fair game, I think. And I can't really see Australian troops just standing there accepting commands and threats from the rebels as journalists and the OSCE had to.

'The US says it has evidence that Russia has fired artillery across the border targeting Ukrainian military positions.

Russia also intends "to deliver heavier and more powerful multiple rocket launchers" to pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine, the state department said.

Russia has frequently denied sending any rocket launchers into Ukraine.'

Dutch FM Tmmermans and Australian FM Bishop have visited the factory hall in Charkiv

RTL-News reports:

Impressions that will never leave me

"These are impressions that will never leave me. '" This morning Dutch FM Frans TIMMERMANS spoke after he had visited the factory in Charkiv where the bodies of the victims of the air disaster are being prepared for departure.

"In there, the victims are being honoured with dedication and expertise, the Foreign Minister said about the work of forensic experts. In the past few days these experts took care of many remains of the victims of the air disaster and prepared them for transport to Netherlands to be identified.

"The forensic team has a very difficult task and it shows in the people's faces and demeanour , said Timmermans. He said to have a ' gigantic admiration' for their work. He went on to say that the atmosphere in the factory hall is serene and that it does justice to the victims.

Timmermans thanked everyone for the work. He thanked the Ukrainians in Russian.

Asked if it is possible for survivors to go to the crash site, Timmermans said that he advises against this. "It's not a good idea to go to that location. We shall bring your loved ones home, he promised.

Timmermans and his Australian colleague Julie Bishop arrived this morning in the Eastern Ukrainian city Charkiv, where they spoke with the forensic specialists. Both FMs watched today how a Dutch Hercules with coffins took off for Eindhoven.

ZaZara, thank you so much for clearing my head about NATO. I'm so out of touch with what's going on outside my own sphere, I apologize for sounding so ridiculous. I must re-educate myself. Mil gracias.

Hi Donamena, I have a confession to make. I knew there where reasons why NATO will not be involved directly but the details ... I had to look them up :blushing:

A hornet's nest is nothing to it.

Agreed Zweibel. It will likely be viewed as an act of aggression. I just hope it doesn't escalate.

So, at this point we are planning to send around 190 Australian Federal Police to the Ukraine, and a detachment of our best special forces (SAS) to protect them.

This is in addition to the 40 unarmed Dutch military police who are being sent ... and, presumably, other international police/forces. Have not been able to locate info on that at this time.

Another 100 AFP officers, along with the small number of soldiers, are to leave for Netherlands today, adding to the 90 who are already in London waiting to be allowed into Ukraine or who are assisting with the crash investigation.

“ ... And I regret to say more human remains have been found and we expect that further remains will be found in the days ahead,” Mr Abbott said.

International special forces are preparing to go to the Ukraine, perhaps as early as this weekend.

A detachment of Australian SAS has arrived in the UK within the past 24 hours, Sky News has learned.

The soldiers will only be authorised to fire their weapons if shot at first.

A separate detachment of Special Forces troops will remain in Eindhoven, on an hour's notice to deploy in the event of a major incident.

Plus the troops from the other four nations. The US have offered troops but at this stage, we're keeping them out of it.

For the folk from the USA, our SAS are similar to your Navy Seals, ours are Air force though.

Yes (I must have edited my post as you were posting :) ) ... the Dutch, Malaysia, Germany & Britain have also agreed to send people. But I can't find info on their numbers yet, other than the 40 Dutch police, or who they are sending. I have only found this about any others ...

"They (SAS) are currently working with British and Dutch special forces - all three nations lost citizens in the disaster.
However, the Ministry of Defence has not confirmed whether British soldiers will be part of the deployment."

The remains of the two dogs who perished in the plane crash in the East of Ukraine are also flown back to The Netherlands, a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice and Security has informed AD.
When the remains of Friese Stabij Quinta (8) and German Shepherd-pup Costa will return to The Netherlands is not yet known, according to the spokesperson.

The Stabyhoun or Stabij is a rare dog breed that just like the Wetterhoun originates from Friesland, a province in the North of the Netherlands. The first part of the name is probably from the Dutch: "sta me bij" (stand by me). The last part is simply Frisian, meaning dog, which is pronounced "hoon". There are only approximately 3507 Stabyhouns in existence today.

Awaiting the arrival of the aircraft with 75 coffins on board

Local time is 15.35 hrs

Tomorrow another transport, 30 coffins are expected on Saturday.

This link is working so much better tonight ... it is heartening to see the same reverent care being taken with coffin after coffin.

I only wish that the separatists could see this, then maybe they would understand our horror at how our people were all being treated, and why we are so desperate to regain them all.

MH17: Europe crafts preliminary deal on Russia sanctions over Ukraine

European Union ambassadors reached a preliminary agreement on Friday to push ahead with hard-hitting economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine crisis but details remained to be worked out, diplomats said.

The 28-nation EU has toughened its stand toward Moscow since last week’s downing of a Malaysian airliner in an area of eastern Ukraine held by Russian-backed separatists.

After a discussion that lasted all day Thursday and part of Friday, ambassadors asked the European Commission to draw up a legal text setting out economic sanctions that the EU would impose for possible agreement next week.

Key measures suggested by the commission included closing EU capital markets to state-owned Russian banks, an embargo on arms sales to Moscow and restrictions on the supply of energy and dual-use technologies. They would not affect current supplies of oil, gas and other commodities from Russia, diplomats said.

"After World War I some enthusiastic breeders in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland began breeding these dogs again."

Think you ZaZara. How many coffins have been brought to Eindhoven now?

Counting on my fingers... Wednesday 40 + Thursday 74 + Friday 75 .... 189 till today.
Today's transport was supposed to be the final transport, but another transport has been announced for Saturday.
In the meantime, the number of coffins on board Saturday that is mentioned in the media has risen from 30 to 38.
For the time being, the transport on Saturday will be the last.

227 coffins after Saturday, maybe even more.
Remember: 1 coffin is not 1 body but likely more.

Thank you. I couldn't remember how many on Thursday! I hope it's possible to bring everyone home to their families.

BBM. I must have missed this. Do you know where I can read about the US offering to send troops? Thank you. :)
