Sprawa Andrzeja i Mariusza Palasików | Zaginieni
Co stało się z Palasikami? To jedno z najgłośniejszych zaginięć PRL-u

Mariusz and Andrzej Palasik disappeared on April 29, 1979 in Stronie Śląskie, a small town located in Lower Silesia. They lived there with their parents and siblings – their younger sister Dorota and three other children. It was not a very rich family.

The boys had opposite characters. One was extremely calm, the other was more agitated.

On that fateful day, they were playing in the yard with Dorota, who, however, at the request of her mother, came home earlier, although she did not want to, because the boys were still playing.

The who was preparing dinner at the time, called the boys home about 20 to 30 minutes later than the girl. However, they were no longer on the playing field at that point. The mother had a bad feeling, so the parents immediately went to ask the neighbors about the boys. Only one of them claimed to have seen them: an elderly woman with an intellectual disability who said she saw the boys get into a car. However, due to her disability, no one took her words seriously.

After an unsuccessful search, the parents finally went to the police to report the boys missing. There they were told that they had sold them and were reporting them missing “out of decency”. This kind of bizarre judgment was linked to the large number of children and the family's lack of wealth.

The boys have not been found to date and they still have missing persons status. Over the years, two main hypotheses have been formulated during their research.

First, it was claimed that the boys could have simply run away from home. They were associated with a fire in the warehouses of a glass factory that occurred that day in Stronie Śląskie. A witness said he saw the boys running away with dirty clothes and matches in their hands. According to this theory, the boys had to set fire to the steel mill and run away because they were afraid of being punished. This explanation was considered the most likely by the police following the search. LE didn't seem to take the Palasiks' disappearance too seriously.

This possibility was, however, ruled out by the family. “We weren't a rich family, but we loved each other very much, the boys wouldn't run away, they would miss us too much,” Dorota said in interviews years later.

However, it seems very likely that the boys were kidnapped. In addition to the neighbor who claimed that the boys got into the car, another witness allegedly saw them eating ice cream in the company of an unknown man.

That's way down by the Czech (then Czechoslovak) border. The roads out of town probably weren't too great back then, but OTOH there's a lot of forest for kidnappers/traffickers on foot to hide in.
IINM the name means "(on the) Silesian side", Silesian meaning Lower Silesia in Poland.
