Deborah Anne Celmer, 41, was last seen on October 12 at 11 a.m. She was reported missing on Monday by family members who told police they were concerned for her welfare since she has not shown up for work in several days.

Celmer is described as an Asian woman who is 5'3" tall and weighs around 150 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.

Celmer may be driving a blue 2017 Toyota Camry with New Jersey tags that read J22DLU.

Here's a second source that says 11:00 p.m. (instead of a.m.):

Concern for Missing Rockville Woman

She is the sister of my coworker, who asked us to share on social media. According to my coworker, Deborah has been missing since late Saturday/early Sunday, so I think 11:00 p.m. on October 12 is correct.

Deborah teaches English at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Montgomery County, MD. Link (no additional info, just a source):

Welcome to Websleuths, @WinterWren . Hoping she is found safely soon.

Seems there is another discrepancy between the MCPD link you shared, and the MSM article in the first post. According to MCPD, "Celmer may be operating a blue 2003 Toyota Camry with Maryland tags: J22DLU" (vs. 2017 New Jersey plates as noted in MSM).

She was reported missing on Monday by family members after not showing up for her job as a teacher for "several days."

Yet she was seen by family two days earlier (a Saturday night, it seems, about 11 pm). Must be two different groups of family? One reports her missing because she hasn't been at work for days and the other has just seen her Saturday night.

So... did she not go to work the week before? Most high school teachers don't go to school on the weekends, so for her to be missing from work for "several days" would mean she wasn't at work on Oct 10 or 11 either. Yet family member(s) said they saw her?

I believe she lived and taught in New Jersey previously (based on a Google search), which might explain the NJ plates vs the MD plates. She is originally from Maryland.

Not sure what to make of that.

Edited to add: appears it's an older Toyota with MD plates, tag 9CN 5716. This is info only from FB, though, not MSM, but supposedly the press release and other info is being updated to reflect it.

I'm surprised this is getting such little attention. Deborah missed several days of work - to me, that means at least three. So best-case scenario, she misses work on Thurs and Fri. But she is seen by family on Saturday? And then misses work again on Monday.

Presumably she did not call in sick or let her school know she would be out - otherwise they would not have reported her missing.

Who, specifically, saw her on Saturday? She'd already missed at least two days of work by then, without notifying the school (or, I'm assuming, responding to phone calls from the school trying to find out if she's okay).

This is a longtime friend of my closest and dearest friend. She is driving the 2003 Camry; not 2017. She was last seen Saturday night after seeing family that day. She was reported missing after missing work Monday and nobody had heard from her. She missed work again on Tuesday. The article that writes 'several days' was written after these two days were already missed. Perhaps they also understand the urgency. Please keep an eye out. She told others she was going to stay with a friend Saturday and nobody has heard from her since.

Correct, she did not notify the school that she wouldn't be in. She had family in town from out of state, and saw them that weekend, as well as other friends (like my close friend, who went down to Rockville to visit them all). Her family was still in town Sunday, but Debbie was already missing by that point, not answering calls to her cell phone. Her car has not been seen. People have driven around the city searching as much as they can.

Thanks for clarifying, crobinator. Hoping she is found soon. Does anyone know anything about the friend she was going to stay with?

Hi crobinator do you know if her car is dark or light blue? I live in Upper Marlboro MD and there was a very bad car accident on Leland Road (I am going to assume because of the storm the previous day or the day before) and me and my husband saw a police officer approach a vehicle that appeared to have been hit a tree and a branch feel on top of it. But this was a light colored sedan.

This is a map of where we saw the car wrecked. I am 100% positive the officer on the scene was Prince Georges Police.

Without more info, I’m thinking she was in a car accident. Since it’s unknown where she was headed Saturday night, it’s tough to figure out what roads to search.

in that case she would have been identified immediately. Tag number, drivers license, etc, would all give the officer her identity.

Searching roads would be a waste of time. If her car was on or near a road someone someone would have called the police by now. This is not some rural area. It’s a suburb of Washington DC. The slim chance remains that her car could have gone down a hill in a wooded area. There are no lakes or canals like in Florida where cars are found 30 years later.

There are actually a couple of lakes in the Rockville area, as well as wooded areas. I used to work near there; there's Rock Creek Park as well as a lake near Gaithersburg, and we don't know how far she drove that night.

I would be more interested in the friend she was going to see at 11 pm Saturday.

Her sister (SM) posted a photo of her car on fb. Search: deborah celmer camry.
If you do a Google image search on 2003 toyota camry blue, the car in the first pic is the same color.

Has there been any updates on who the friend is that she was going to see Saturday evening??

I’m shocked there’s not been more news coverage on this. Ms. Celmer possibly was last seen approx 11:00 pm Oct 12. At 11 pm presumably out with family or at a residential location (nothing seems to have been identified). May or may not have headed off in her car to a friend. No details on that. Did she arrive at the friend’s location? Is the friend missing too?

Assuming she didn’t arrive at the location (how far was the drive?) was that the night the weather was bad? The possibility of Ms. Celmer being on/down a side road injured from an accident is not out of the question if the police know which direction she was going. She had worked in NJ and there’s plenty of open space up that way if she made her way up that direction. It is not unheard of for people not to be spotted after an accident that didn’t involve another vehicle.

How was she when she departed her family. In a good mood, tipsy? Did she fall out with any family member (we all know how we can have silly tiffs with family members) did leave in a huff and lack concentration.

Does she have a history of just not showing up?

Doe she have a history of not showing up if something up is bothering her?
Her students seem near and dear to her so gut feelings seem to be that she wouldn’t just take off and abandon her work and students.

No one hearing from Ms. Celmer all day Sunday is not unusual but Ms. Celmer not going to work Monday, then followed by one or more family members not hearing from her was considered odd. (And has since played out that way.)

She’s not married that I recall, so was there a new love interest that her family/friends knew of. Was she discussing any strange behavior by anyone from her neighborhood or workplace or even odd behavior from a student (only saying this b/c it is HS not because she was doing anything inappropriate.)

Also, hate to go down the path of two other scenarios but did someone take her and if so, was it someone she knows or a random person. With the lack of coverage is it safe to say that this is not the case? Is the lack of coverage an indication that perhaps it’s an accident or she’s just taken off and it’s a pattern of behavior seen before.

There really should be more news on this. Like many other posters -the lack of info about whether she made it to her friend’s location or if that didn’t occur, was canceled or a made up excuse would be helpful because it would help find out the new “last person to see her” timeline.

Does she own any tracking devices? I can’t recall how tech savvy she said she was —(my child attends the school which is why I feel concerned and find this all bizarre.)

I just hope the lack of questioning at the school (like her students) and the lack of media coverage indicates this case is not heading in a dark direction. Her family must be worried absolutely sick.
