I recall seeing that when I was looking at a map. Made my hair stand on end.

I replied but forgot to quote. My dad's family is from there and O'Donnell was as common a name in Baltimore as Swenson in Minneapolis! ;)

I left Judy's sister a message so hopefully she'll pop on soon. I'm also going to dig through some old photos of her that I have to see if there are any moles. I don't recall them myself.

Coming here from this thread.

I've read everything Maureen has posted; have a bunch of posts I wanted to address but don't have time to do it now.

There were other clubs in NYC if she couldn't get into Studio 54 at 1st. 12 of New York's Most Historic Night Clubs, I'm younger then Judy, used to go to the limelight but it wasn't opened till 83. As was mentioned CBGB's was really popular too where you could get a glimpse of your favorite celebrity which leads me to ask, who were her favorite bands? Was she into Blondie at all?

She could have gone to NYC to model, went to some agencies that sent her to a photographer that most likely hit on her, turned her onto some lines. She also could have worked some fashion shows helping to dress models. That's what they did with some girls looking to model. Let them get a feel for what a fashion show is like and what it means to be a model in one.

From there the photographer tells her he'll introduce her to some people, brings her clubbing; then it can go down hill from there; leading her into being a high priced call girl, especially since she liked to party which would have killed her modeling career. Very hard to be partying, doing coke all night then do the rounds with the agencies.

An ex-BF's sister used to work at a topless bar in Elizabeth NJ as a bar tender. Some how she ended up in NY; working one of those sex phone lines. I was given her number to hook up with her after 10 years, was shocked to hear her answering machine that told the caller to press whatever.

no mine has not been submitted - both my mother's and father's has been - and while to my mind it seems mine would *help*, the advice I've received suggests it wouldn't ??

It very well may help. A doe by the name of Grateful Doe was matched to Jason Callahan who's mother donated, interestingly he could not be ruled out against his mother, they ended up getting 3 more samples. Possible they didn't want you due to having your parents but if she doesn't match one of them will one profile be enough for a rule out? That's the question.

Parents have lived at the same address for 45 years -- same phone number too. There was incredibly high tension, as BOTH sisters were uninvited to the 50th in Maryland, yet both were subjected to watching the slide show at the uncle's home (where we were that thxgiving) -- one sister because of her new baby, and judy because of the trouble she had been in.

Hitchhiking to MN to go to other grandparents 50th -- she was a determined soul.

I can't figure out why she was at the inaugural, it's been making me crazy for 31 years. Earlier in this thread someone connecting Warhol to Reagan - which may hold water - since Judy was known to hang out at studio 54 (shrager and the other dude loved to mix up commoners with movie stars), it's unclear to me whether she was there as a hooker [would have had to have been high priced, or there with the same john, I don't think 54 was into street girls] -- if she was there as a girlfriend, maybe at the inaugural as a girlfriend too? who is the mystery boyfriend who no one in the family knew? Or was she a regular escort? was it a "pretty woman" relationship?

Harsh words - the scenarios have played out in my head a million times. Did they say, "here's 1000 dollars, stay away?" or "get yourself cleaned up and come home" or "stop charging calls to our number" or "don't bother coming home for christmas unless you are cleaned up" -- the list is endless and since my parents won't talk about it, it's shrouded in this bizarre secrecy. My dad is not the kindest, gentlest person, I would not be surprised at all if he was downright mean in his words. It would not shock me if her attitude was basically, "**** 'em -- the whole lot of them" -- it was an exceptionally excruciating weekend. New baby (mulatto, 19 year old mom, not married), Judy with her body bags full of super-stinky street clothes and stories of clubbing all night long in New York City, Dad drinking too much, Mom seemingly blissfully unaware of all of it.

There were a couple of sightings, my cousin claims he saw her in his neighborhood in East Brunswick, but denies telling my sister about it (freaking bizarre - why the hell is everyone so damn secretive about it??), the inaugural, I saw with MY OWN EYES - definitely her, then the sanitation workers strike.

She definitely made it back to NY. Murders in that area, excuse the cliche - fugeddaboutit. I think she probably met her fate either in an OD or at the hands of a bad John. I would not be surprised to find out that she is one of the 2 remaining uid's from the LISK. Romanticizing for a moment, I think it's possible she's the Midtown Doe, and we could back into that given the proximity to 54, her propensity to hang out there, and then figure out why she was at the inaugural.

All I really have is questions -- no answers. Lots of theories, lots of time for this to swirl around in my brain.

If an OD, maybe declared deceased at a hosp and buried in the potters field under one of her names. Happened to my friends sister Linnette. She was being compared to Caledonia NY Jane Doe. We googled all over, she never came up until a year later; someone was comparing her to NJ's Princess Doe, they found her on find a grave under a married name. You never know where she could turn up which leads me to mention Atlantic City. If she was a call girl, she very well could have been down there. A lot of girls are trafficked thru AC.

I submitted DNA in 2013 - you really did go way back in the thread! The NYS trooper changed, they collected my dna sample at my request. I've been working the potter's field/Hart Island angle for years, so far, still nothing. NAMUS, theoretically, cross checks DNA on all of the does with DNA automatically, whenever there are a few markers that match. (Caucasian, lifestyle, location, for example). I've worked with LE around the world -- she could have ended up in AC easily - or anywhere else, for that matter. 1980/1981 were still pretty open with regard to travel papers - she could have had a fake passport given to her and traveled wherever. Or, it may have been much less glamorous and she's dead on the side of the road in a ditch somewhere, dumped by a trick she picked up in a rest area along 81 or 95. It's exasperating. I was happy to march on DC, there were tears streaming down my face almost the entire time. Thinking about her, thinking about the last time I saw her face.

I've been trying to read through this entire thread. I've decided I will just ask. Did anyone ever find the reports from her arrest records? Often times when a person is arrested they have other people listed in the report. They may contain a friend's name who bailed her out or was arrested along with her. That person could be contacted to find out the names of some of the people she was in contact with during her travels or time in SC or NYC. This may have been discussed and I didn't get that far into the thread.
I would find her arrest records and file a request for each report through the freedom of information act.

Have you searched on Find A Grave to see if she is listed under one of her names? Here is the search page

that has not been done -- and is a great idea. I had a really hard time getting her arrest records over the phone from NYC (I know there were a couple of arrests there and at least one in Myrtle Beach, SC.) Thanks for the suggestion!!

I just did a few searches on people who I know are buried in particular spots - it's not a complete database. There was one that grabbed my attention in Cheektowaga, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, that lists no known date of birth - left the cemetary a message, we'll see where that goes?

Dear Maureen,
I commend you for your persistance in finding Judy. She has not left my mind for days, as I have been reading up on the case.

What strikes me the most, and I think has not been discussed much, is her use of aliases. Where did Tuffy come from? Is it a maiden name in the family? I also think I read somewhere that she used Erin O'Day, which I basically see as the use of her middle name and a shortened slightly altered version of O'Donnell... think O'D. It seems she never fully let go of her past.
Maybe you could think up of other names she might use and we could check the unclaimed persons database. (Some sort of fake identification would probably not have been hard to obtain in her circles ...)
I do not recommend posting all maiden names of your family publicly, but if you want help to come up with combinations and check them, please do not hesitate to send me a message.
Also, as she had been discussing going back to high school, the name of the school could bear importance.

For me, it sort of feels wrong, to talk about Judy as if she has passed, she feels so present and vivacious, that I think, she could never truly be not alive.

All the best, from the other side of the globe...
Elie

Had a lovely conversation with the woman from the cemetery, this is not Judy.

I just spoke with the NYS trooper who is assigned to the case, and asked him to have a look at her rap sheet to see if there might be dots we could connect. He conceded this was a good idea! thanks again. Not sure if it will bear fruit, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

That's still great news, no matter the outcome. I hope it turns up something.

Thanks Elie.

I'm not sure where the name Tuffy came from, I'm guessing that once she joined that line of work the name was given to her by someone. She was a strong, determined girl. She had been in at least one altercation, leaving her front tooth darkened. Maybe a fist fight. that might have landed her that name, or she may have chosen it herself. I just don't know. She was fascinated by older actresses/singers /models - I think that's where O'Day came from. And she loved her middle name because she knew it meant Ireland. She always loved makeup, it makes me sad that she felt the need to conceal her identity. There is virtually no way Judy is still alive. Her lifestyle, the number of ways we've searched, the phone calls, the national, local, and regional press I've garnered - there is no way she's still alive. Even if she didn't reach out to anyone else in the family she would have reached out to me. I'm certain of that.

Sweet Maureen....you are so beautiful...have to deal with this..and so authentic....I wish Judy was still around...but I think you have the best feeling about it.

my first OB with my first child delivered Mick's baby, I believe it was Bianca's. (how many wives and children does he have, like 14 kids, right?) His office was on the upper east side of NYC, Ben Pascario. Many fond memories of him. He proudly displayed the picture with the Jaggers and their baby, with his wide smile along side them.

Just in case this list films about searching for a missing person is of interest or perhaps even to spark some new ideas.
Have not yet seen this one, but it looks interesting as it is about a woman looking for her sister. fwiw..
