BALTIMORE, MD. (WUSA9) - A newly released video shows what could be a Baltimore police officer planting drugs, caught by a body camera.

The Office of the Public Defender released body cam video. The office claims it shows an officer planting drugs that led to an arrest, according to CBS Baltimore.

The video shows three officers in an alley. One officer places a can on the ground and covers it up with a piece of wood.The officers go to the street for a few seconds before the officer who placed the can on the ground comes back to the alley, in the place they just left.

That officer searches the area, and lifts the large wood piece. He picks up the can that he had just placed there and finds what looks like drugs in the can.

The video has no sound at the beginning, which indicates the officer turned on his body camera before finding the drugs. The body cameras save 30 seconds before being turned on, but don't save the sound, according to CBS Baltimore.

The video, recorded on police body-worn cameras, shows the officer placing a plastic bag into a food can then partially hiding it under a piece of debris. Thirty seconds later the audio begins and the officer says, "I'm going to check here. Hold on," as his colleagues laugh. The officer then gives a cursory look at other items in the debris-strewn lot and appears to stumble onto the drugs in the can.

"Yo!" the officer shouts at his colleagues as he holds up the small cellophane bag containing several pills. One of his police colleagues only shouts back "What's up?" The video ends a few seconds later.

As the officer searches the lot for evidence, one of his colleagues can be heard saying, "Is that 30?" which was possibly a reference to the way the body-worn cameras used by Baltimore police operate; they record 30 seconds of video, without sound, before the camera is actively turned on by the officer, according to the manufacturer, Axon. Referred to as a buffer, it's meant to capture crucial evidence that might occur just before an officer activates his camera.

The police chief said, "It's certainly a possibility that we're looking into to see if the officers in fact replaced drugs that they had already discovered in order to document their discovery with their body-worn cameras on."

Looks suspicious. It could be them reenacting what they found but how about they just leave the drugs there and then record it. Or turn your camera on as soon as u jump out of the car?? All 3 should be fired if it is what it looks like.

Looks suspicious. It could be them reenacting what they found but how about they just leave the drugs there and then record it. Or turn your camera on as soon as u jump out of the car?? All 3 should be fired if it is what it looks like.

Baltimore police have uploaded video of the other officers. Haven't had time to analyze each/put in timeframe as each has a timestamp, just a quick view, but looks like one turned it one when they got out of the car.

Also, one of the officers said 10-30..... (mentioning this above as one article mention they said "30" in reference to cameras, but I heard 10-30 on one video.. :dunno: but I expect that is a police "code" for something. Our scanners here would know...)
