Mark Daniel Smich, 25, looked gaunt and agitated when brought into court in leg shackles Thursday morning, where he was formally accused of being the second man involved in the high-profile murder case of Tim Bosma.

He was twice convicted for drug possession, in 2005 and in 2006, twice for failure to comply with a court order, and a conviction for impaired driving in 2009. He has a pending court date after two men spray-painted graffiti on a highway overpass

Indeed, as nearly 1,000 chairs were already almost full an hour before the start of the service in the same hall where Mr. Bosma, 32, married his wife just three years before, police officers were arresting Mark Smich, 25, of nearby Oakville.

HAMILTON - Now this one looks the part.
If you were casting a horror movie about two men who answer an online ad for a pickup truck and take the unsuspecting seller on a fatal test drive, Mark Smich could play one of the leads.
He is suspect number two.

New childhood photos of murder suspect Dellen Millard reveal a standout attention seeking kid
The aggressive, outsider image seems appropriate for someone accused of such a frightful crime, one that has captured the public’s imagination and attention to an extraordinary degree.

When asked to tell the court his name, he said merely “Mark.” After prompting to provide his full name, he dismissively added “Smich.” Some spectators thought they saw minor wounds on his face.

Bosma, Millard & Smich: the evoloution of crime and social media

At times, it can be a little too much. However, many of the participants care and want to assist Law Enforcement by doing their own sleuthing online. Sometimes it’s of great assistance as law enforcement secretly watches these forums in hopes for new direction and clues.

People identify with Tim Bosma, ex RCMP expert
"Everybody sees Tim Bosma as potentially them," Dr. Matt Logan, a former sergeant in the RCMP's behavioural sciences unit, said Sunday. "It's an everyday Joe and look what happened to him. I think there are people in society who have a real fear when they see someone preying on someone that's kind of like them. People are wired to be curious and they're also wired to look at things that are bizarre."

“I don’t watch much TV,” Mr. Blodgett admitted, noting that he was on his laptop before heading to bed one night two weeks ago when he caught the CTV national news that flashed images of Mr. Millard and learned the latest in the case of Tim Bosma. “It was instantaneous recognition.”

“His name never left my memory,” Mr. Blodgett added, “especially considering the strange circumstances of his charter.” Alarm bells went off, and he immediately called police.
During his visit, the woman was not in sight. Thinking about the encounter now, Mr. Blodgett said it was “troubling.”

“It was absolutely not a murder scene,” he said adamantly. “It was unusual. He did have an explanation that did seem suitable to what I observed.”

“I would be very taken aback if there was more to the story,” Mr. Blodgett added.

When Blodgett arrived, he noticed a few drops of blood on the boat and asked Millard about it.
Millard said his girlfriend was menstruating and the toilet was broken, which made sense to Blodgett.

“We’re talking about drops of blood,” Blodgett said. “It seemed completely reasonable.”

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a charter yacht operator on Manitoulin Island said he saw blood on a boat used by murder suspect Dellen Millard in 2011.

"I put in a call after seeing him in the news and when I saw him I was absolutely shocked," Blodgett said, noting he remembered Millard's red Mohawk hairstyle.

"When I arrived, I saw a large amount of blood around the boat," he said. "After questioning Millard about it, I was satisfied with his answer and confident nothing unreasonable had taken place on the yacht. You'll need to speak with OPP on how Millard answered that question."

“As of now, we are not sure what we have. We are looking into a complaint made by the owner,” [OPP Const. Allan] Boyd said Wednesday. “That's all we can confirm at this time.”

On Thursday, [OPP Const. Allan] Boyd gave few details about the ongoing investigation.
“We have initiated an investigation under the direction of our criminal investigations branch,” he told CTV Northern Ontario. “At this point in time, as you can appreciate, the investigation is not complete so we’re not at liberty or in a position to speak specifically to the specifics to the investigation.”

Blogett said he noticed about six to 10 drops of blood on the boat’s deck and the bathroom, but Millard gave him a reasonable explanation.

Millard’s strange, downward spiral
SAT, JUN 01, 2013

Friday, Toronto Police wrapped up their search of Millard's farm in connection with her disappearance. Investigators wouldn't say what, if anything, was found on the property.

Police are also investigating the death of Millard's father last fall.

Wayne, a man friends say had no depressive tendencies, was found shot in the eye in the Etobicoke home he shared with Millard. Police initially ruled the death a suicide — news that shocked those who knew him. Homicide detectives are now re-examining those circumstances.

Tim Bosma murder suspect, Dellen Millard made surprising decision to dismantle family business

Things came to a head one day last November when Mr. Sharif, who lives in Austin, Texas, paid a visit to the new hangar and Dellen questioned him as to why no contracts were yet in place for the new Millardair aircraft maintenance and repair business.

Mr. Sharif responded that until the facilities, estimated to have cost some $6 million, could be toured by potential customers, no deals would be signed. As the situation grew heated, Dellen suggested that they discuss their differences in private over dinner that evening.
