Toys, a dog, children, and killers

At 7,500 square feet, it's a big house — three or four times bigger than houses enjoyed by many people.
The size seems logical, however, when you remember that Melanie and Byrd Billings made that house into a home for numerous children with severe disabilities.
And a look inside shows it pretty much like anyone's home.
Some rooms are neat and spare. In others, there's a toy on the floor here, a blanket out of place there, the comfortable, lived-in feeling of a place that's home to children and pets.
A girl's bedroom is decorated in pink; the girl is sleeping.
A dog wanders through a room downstairs. In a hall, shelves hold rows of Hummel-type figurines. Photos on the wall show children.
