For a man who jetted to both coasts for TV appearances, entertained offers to star in reality shows and welcomed media crews to his home for photo shoots, Drew Peterson's last year has been a lonely one.
Locked up by himself for exactly a year today, the 56-year-old former Bolingbrook cop is looking forward to his murder trial, scheduled to start June 14, according to Pat Barry, a spokesman for the Will County Sheriff's Department, which houses Peterson.

"I think he figures he's going to get out," Barry said.
Since he was arrested for allegedly murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, Peterson has been held in the medical wing of the county jail for his safety.
In protective custody, Peterson spends his days mostly in solitude -- except when talking to correctional officers. Peterson sees no other prisoners, Barry said.

Drew Peterson needs an estimated $45,000 to hire expert witnesses, including a biomechanical engineer, to help defend against first-degree murder charges as he goes to trial in June, according to documents his federal attorney filed late Thursday.

The former Bolingbrook police sergeant's finances have come under scrutiny after he filed a federal lawsuit last fall against JPMorgan Chase for freezing a $220,000 line of credit on his home shortly after his arrest on murder charges last May.


A federal judge on April 29 dismissed the complaint, ruling that Peterson's financial circumstances were altered when he was arrested on murder charges and ordered held on $20 million bond. Peterson's attorneys were allowed to file an amended complaint by Thursday.

His attorney, Walter Maksym, says Peterson now has no debts except his utility bills and has kept his home, furnishings, motorcycle and SUV.

All of Peterson's attorney fees and other legal expenses since 2009 have been paid, he said. The expense figures were provided to Chase under seal.

"He hasn't been shopping since May 7 of 2009," the day Peterson was arrested, Maksym said.

JOLIET -- A piece of the Drew Peterson -- and the Harley-Davidson -- lifestyle can be yours if you score the high bid on an eBay auction for his motorcycle.
Peterson, the serial marrier and accused wife killer now jailed on murder charges for a few days more than a year, has his prized Harley-Davidson on the Internet auction block with a starting price of $50,000.

While Peterson could use some money to cover his legal expenses, that is not the sole reason for selling the motorcycle, said his attorney, Joel Brodsky of Chicago.
"First of all, the bike's been sitting there for over a year now," said Brodsky, who has his own Harley-Davidson up for sale on eBay as well. The minimum bid for Brodsky's bike is $8,500.
"Mine's got nothing to do with money," Brodsky said of unloading his motorcycle. "I'm just getting older."

Prosecutors pushed to keep evidence in the Drew Peterson case under wraps. But after the way a batch of recently filed court papers were treated, the accused killer's lawyer wants to know why they bothered. "That's pretty stupid; that's pretty bad," attorney Joel Brodsky said of descriptions printed on the sealed envelopes of seven secret court motions he filed in the past few days.


"If that's the way they're going to handle it, perhaps we should open up the whole file and let everyone see everything," Brodsky said.
Last week and Monday, Brodsky filed motions to quash the warrants used to search Peterson's home in the days after his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, vanished in October 2007, and to exhume the grave of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, who was found drowned in a dry bathtub in March 2004.

A Will County judge is set to announce his decision on whether or not he will delay the trial of a former Bolingbrook police officer charged with murder in his wife's 2004 death.

Circuit Judge Stephen White is scheduled to issue his ruling Wednesday morning. Last week, attorneys for Drew Peterson asked White to delay the June 14 start of the trial.

Lead attorney Joel Brodsky says he's asked for a delay until Aug. 23 because the prosecution proposed to call four new expert witnesses, including a neuropathologist.

A Will County judge agreed to delay until next month the start of Drew Peterson&#8217;s murder trial &#8212; a much shorter postponement than was sought by the ex-cop&#8217;s attorneys.

The decision today by Judge Stephen White to set the trial for July 8 prompted defense lawyers to say the new start date could become an appeals issue if Peterson ultimately is convicted of murdering former wife Kathleen Savio.

&#8220;In the unlikely event of a conviction, it&#8217;s something we&#8217;ll look at,&#8217;&#8217; defense attorney Joel Brodsky said, describing the refusal for a longer delay as &#8220;a constitutional issue&#8217;&#8217; that has been used in other cases to justify appeals.

The new defense attorneys needed more time to study the details of the case, Brodsky said. Peterson&#8217;s defense team also needs additional time to examine the testimony expected from several new expert witnesses that prosecutors recently said they plan to call, Brodsky argued.

White, though, agreed to only a 3 1/2-week delay, ordering jury selection for the trial to begin July 8. In issuing his order, he noted that a 246-person pool from which lawyers will select jurors already has been assembled.

On the eve of Drew Peterson's much-anticipated murder trial, a judge has ruled that a suburban pastor can testify about a counseling session in which Stacy Peterson alleged that her husband coaxed her into providing a false alibi for the weekend of his third wife's death, the Tribune has learned.

However, the jury will not hear some details of an alleged 2002 incident in which Peterson allegedly broke into the home of his third wife, Kathleen Savio; held a knife to her throat; and threatened to kill her, according to sources and comments made by defense attorney Joel Brodsky in court Thursday.

The judge's ruling on important witnesses for the state follows a landmark hearing under a new Illinois statute — dubbed Drew's Law — that allows certain types of hearsay at trial.

A Will County judge says if a videotape of an autopsy on the body of Drew Peterson's third wife isn't turned over to defense attorneys he may not allow the famous pathologist who conducted it to testify at Peterson's murder trial next month.

On Thursday, prosecutors told Judge Stephen White about the videotape, explaining it was made surreptitiously by a television news producer during Dr. Michael Baden's 2007 autopsy of Kathleen Savio. The autopsy was conducted for Savio's family.

Drew Peterson's mouth ran for more than a year and a half after his fourth wife vanished.

All this stopped 14 months ago when he was jailed on charges he murdered his third wife. But with his eagerly anticipated trial set to start tomorrow, will Peterson's lawyers give him the chance to talk his way out of it?

Joel Brodsky, the longest-serving of Peterson's six attorneys, won't say if his client will take the stand. In fact, Brodsky is not sure who he will call to testify.

"It depends what evidence the state puts on," said Brodsky, who is trying his first-ever murder case with the eyes of the world watching.

Brodsky said he will make the first impression on the jury after it is seated, as he is tasked with the opening argument. And he claims to have some tricks up his sleeve.

In two days, Drew Peterson will go on trial for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. The case could drag on for months, but one expert said it will be won or lost in the first days, during jury selection. CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports on who the defense wants to see on the panel.

It's likely the most high-profile case in the history of Will County. So you'd think it would be hard to find anyone who hasn't formed an opinion of former police sergeant and accused killer Drew Peterson.

But jury consultant Alan Tuerkheimer says that's not necessarily a problem.

"Just because somebody knows about it, if they haven't formed a strong opinion and they can be fair and unbiased, I think he'll get a fair trial," he said.

Brodsky said he came to this conclusion after having his "crack legal team working on it" and that "the consensus is yes, [Peterson should be freed] immediately, without bond."

But one member of the legal team, Joseph "The Shark" Lopez, wasn't so sure. "I've been doing some research on it. It's not so clear-cut," Lopez said. "It's an uphill battle. We expect the state to come out blazing to keep him in."

Drew Peterson will remain in jail while prosecutors appeal a ruling on hearsay evidence, a judge has ruled.

Peterson showed no reaction as Will County Judge Steven White announced his ruling. He looked down and wrote in a yellow legal pad, then looked at his attorneys and tapped his fingers against the table.

Peterson had arrived at court this morning carrying a suit bag.

Late appeal allowed in Drew Peterson murder case

Trial would likely be delayed at least until next year

An Illinois court has found that a last-minute appeal by Will County prosecutors seeking to introduce more hearsay evidence in the Drew Peterson murder case was filed too late, but it has allowed the appeal to move forward anyway.


The 3rd District Appellate Court recently ruled that prosecutors would be allowed to file a late appeal, sources said, likely ensuring the murder trial will be delayed at least until next year. Prosecutors have asked that the appeal be sealed, a motion the court has granted.


Defense attorney Joel Brodsky said he has sought to have the appeals court rule on whether his client must remain in jail during the appeal. Judge Stephen White ruled last month that prosecutors had provided "compelling" reasons to keep Peterson behind bars.

Stacy Peterson "Bring Her Home"


Get out your vomit buckets! The story's headline on August 16th, from part 2 in the Chicago Sun-Times series in bold black ink reads " Drew Peterson-Not easy Being A National Pastime."
According to Wikidepia "a national sport or national pastime is a sport or game that is considered to be an intrinsic part of the culture of a nation. "

The killing of ones' own wife, girlfriend or significant other, also known as intimate partner homicide, has in fact become a carefully strategized "national game" among those who deliberately take their wives and girlfriends out of their lives. So, what Peterson is really saying, with a bull horn behind iron bars, in his carefully crafted blood soaked hand, "ladies and gentlemen, this is just a game." If we look at those who murder their intimate partners, each one of the offenders lost the game when charged and convicted of the crime. But, Peterson is betting otherwise, as evidence since day one going back to March 1, 2004, when Kathleen was murdered.


Even behind bars, with his game face on, Peterson is betting the prosecutors in Will County, Illinois, do not have enough for a conviction. Sadly, he just be might right.

The Chicago Sun-Times has provided a playing field, or a national stadium, for, in my expert opinion, a "skilled mommy murderer".

Drew Peterson's son suspended over guns

OAK BROOK, Ill., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Police officer Stephen Peterson was suspended after saying his father, Drew Peterson, stored guns at his Illinois home, a source told the Chicago Tribune.

The newspaper said Sunday that the younger Peterson, an officer with the Oak Brook police force, told department investigators last week that he allowed his dad to keep three guns at his home shortly after Drew Peterson's wife, Stacy, disappeared in 2007.
