Investigators told The Los Angeles Times Wednesday evening that the first round of leads helped tentatively confirm that 24 of the women are still alive. Police also identified one woman as a murder victim.

Then the tips started flooding in -- more than 1,000 in the 24 hours after they sought the public's help Tuesday in identifying the women.
One woman called to say she was the person in photos 16 and 17-- and is very much alive.
Then Bradford's own daughter called in, saying that photo 48 was of his ex-wife and that she, too, is alive.
Though the department released only head shots, Peavy said some of the full photos had "pornographic" content.

More Than 1,000 Tips Received in Case of Missing Women
Peavy said some of the women are from Southern California but others might be from Michigan, Florida, Texas, Oregon, Illinois, Kansas or Louisiana. Bradford was arrested in 1978 in Michigan for sexually assaulting his wife. Two years later, he was accused of sexual assault in Valparaiso, Fla.

Meanwhile, other local law enforcement agencies are also looking into possible connections to other homicide cases from 1975 and 1982.
In the first, the Santa Monica Police Department was investigating whether Bradford was involved in the slaying of Patricia Dulong, 33, last seen in Santa Monica. And the Los Angeles Police Department may have linked him to the death of 23-year-old Mischa Stewart, Peavy said.
The case could lead outside California. Through the years, Bradford has spent time in Illinois, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Oregon and elsewhere.
"We could have victims theoretically all over the country," Peavy said.
