Nothing intelligent to add today, still trying not to smoke ciggies.

However, rats are known to carry disease even today. Do NOT vacuum up the droppings if you live in one of those apartment buildings as I have. Rubber gloves and bleach water please. Today it is called Hantavirus.......................

First off...go get yourself an e-cig.

Secondly....in the US rats very very rarely carry the Hantavirus, it is species specific so far as we know. Mostly deer mice and such, plus some uncommon rat species.

Other rodents, such as house mice, roof rats, and Norway rats, have never been known to give people HPS.

Norway Rats and Roof Rats compromise the overwhelming majority of rats in the US. Neither have been known to transmit HPS. No worries. They may eat all of your dry goods and possibly chew up your wiring but when it comes to HPS worry about mice.
