Woman found dead on Waterfront Trail in Whitby

WHITBY — A woman has been found dead on the Waterfront Trail in Whitby.

Durham police said in a release that the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered by a person walking along the trail on Saturday night around 9 p.m.

Durham police are attempting to identify the woman, including a review of the missing person reports from the last several weeks

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing girl.

Amanda O’Dette, 16, was last seen on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 7 p.m., in the Ossington Avenue and Dundas Street Westarea.

She is described as 5’6”, 130 lbs., long brown hair, green eyes.

She is believed to be somewhere in the town of Ajax.

Police are concerned for her safety.

The body is of an adult white female, believed to be in her 30s, according to Const. George Tudos, spokesperson for the Durham police.

A person walking on Waterfront Trail, in the area of Water Street and South Blair Street, discovered the body on land near the path at about 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Police continue to search for a missing 36-year-old Oshawa woman who was last seen in mid-May.

The missing female Jessica CAPESKY was last seen on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in the area of Adelaide Street and Simcoe Street North. CAPESKY has not made any contact with family or friends and has no access to a cellphone or money. Her family is concerned for her well-being.

CAPESKY is described as a female, white, about 5'7" tall, 130 pounds, slim build, black hair with blonde streaks, wearing white running shoes, black and white capri pants and a black hooded sweater with white marks on it.

Anyone with information as to her whereabouts is asked to contact their local police service.

A body found near Lake Ontario over the weekend has been identified as a missing 46-year-old woman.

Melanie Vachon was last seen on May 7 and reported missing to Durham Regional Police on May 18. Police said at the time that she had not made contact with family or friends after leaving her residence on Dunlop St. E. in Whitby.

WHITBY — More than a year after her body was found near the lakefront in Whitby, police have charged Melanie Vachon’s former boyfriend with murder.

On Aug. 7 police arrested 44-year-old Jeffrey Weldon of Whitby. He is charged with second-degree murder and improper or indecent interference with a dead body.

Vachon’s cause of death is still being withheld, Const. George Tudos said Thursday.
