Merv Griffin, the entertainment mogul, singer, talk-show host and horseman who has called La Quinta, Calif., home for 20 years, is in grave condition with cancer, according to media reports.

“Entertainment Tonight” has reported that sources tell the Hollywood show that Griffin’s prognosis is not good. Griffin’s representatives have not returned calls to The Desert Sun to confirm or deny.

oh gosh, that's sad news, seems like a lot of the old timers are passing. I hate to admit this, but I thought he passed some time last year ... obviously I thought wrong.

They are saying that he passed away this morning. According to MSNBC. Sad.

WHy do we always think its sad??
He had a totally full and complete life!!
None of us are getting out of this alive.

The only sad part is if he suffered.

Indeed he had a great life--He sold his two game shows to Coca Cola for 250 million 20 years ago, which is $500,000,000 in today's money--then he got into real estate bigtime with Casinos and I think he built Paradise Resort in the Bahamas--just saw an interview with him a few weeks ago--He looked fine and stll had a lot of big plans--He was supposedly gay,I think, but maybe Nova would know for sure--RIP Merv

Thanks Peter!! Nice post:)
I totally fear death and I am trying to not think of it in such a way that it is scary.
I just think if you had a full wonderful life that is all any of us can ask for :)

I'm sorry to hear this. He and Nancy Reagan were very close friends. I'm sure she is mourning greatly today.

My mother and I use to watch his tv show every morning before I started school.

I don't remember much about that show except it was like a talk show. I know he's been around my whole life.

[1] John Colapinto, "Dear Mister Fantasy", Rolling Stone, 1 June 2006. Sued for $200M in palimony in 1991 by Brent Plott, a case dismissed with prejudice. Sued again by secretary/bodyguard Denny Terrio for sexual harassment, also dismissed. "Merv does not refute the underlying implication in both cases: that he is gay... He parries any direct questions about his sexual orientation. 'You're asking an eighty-year-old man about his sexuality right now... Get a life!'"

I always got Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas mixed up.Mike Douglas was also a tv talk show host.(Not to confuse Mike Douglas with Michael Douglas,Kirk Douglas' son.)

If this post isn't confusing and mixed up ... I don't know what is! lol.

Merv Griffin's niece lived at the same apartment complex that I did, in the late 70's, and he came by and played tennis with her a few times. We had really nice courts.

Rest in peace Mr. Griffin. Article can be found in it's entirety at link.
