Neal's worried granddaughter, Lawanda Marshall, said they had become concerned after he failed to show up for Christmas, as he would not have missed Christmas with his family.
According to his relatives, Neal had recently won $20,000 in a lottery game, but had no plans to leave town.
Marshall said that the information about his lottery win was widely publicized and his family think this could be the reason he has vanished into thin air.
Marshall said: 'It bothers me greatly because I don't think that's the type of information that should have seeped out – if that was the case – especially that neighborhood in which he was staying and reside.'
Neal's family said they went to his house to check on him and found his home in disarray and a door left ajar which raised their suspicions further.

At 86 years old, and with the car missing as well, I would not be surprised if he became lost and confused while driving. Hopefully police thru out the state are keeping an eye out for him. At that age, I would doubt he would have a cell phone ( although I guess it is possible ) and may not remember phone numbers to call for help. Sadly it has been a while now... but the roads have been dry and snow free.
It is not terribly unusual to hear reports of seniors becoming confused and being found several states away..
At least that would be the best case scenario..

I hope he just went on a nice vacation but it doesn't sound like it with the door of his house ajar and his house messed up and puppy missing. I hope he will be found safe real soon.

still missing :( no new updates

Some people are so terrible! How could someone do this to an elderly person?! Poor guy :(. RIP.

Hadn't seen this thread before this terrible outcome. This is really AWFUL.

RIP Mr. Neal, and prayers for your loved ones.

poor man! I would be looking very closely at friends and relatives.

it’s unknown if the winning lottery ticket was a motive in Neal’s disappearance.

“The family said he won but we haven’t been able to confirm through the Michigan Lottery that there was a ticket,” polioce said. “Nobody has cashed in a winning $20,000 ticket as far as we can determine.”

Oh no. How far is that from his home?

Nobody answered the door Wednesday at Neal’s tiny white bungalow on Trinity Street in northwest Detroit, about three miles northwest of where his body was found. Neal’s neighborhood, in the notorious Brightmoor district, has for many years been among the city’s most dangerous.

He was found in the 15800 block of Mansfield after someone discovered a body in the basement of the vacant house next door.

Detroit police made an arrest in the killing of Arthur Neal, an 86-year-old grandfather who relatives said won a $20,000 lottery prize he planned to collect about the time he vanished Dec. 20, but questions remain.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office said in a statement Friday 20-year-old Quanzell A. Hood of Detroit was been arrested for the crime.

He's charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and expected to be arraigned in a Romulus District Court Saturday.
