EAST LANSING, Mich. – Henry Louis Baltimore Jr. disappeared 49 years ago, just days before he was scheduled to testify against a man who robbed him at gunpoint.''

''Baltimore was an honor student at Michigan State University and one of the band’s first known Black drum majors. He was robbed at gunpoint in his apartment on March 3, 1973.

Baltimore filed a report with police 10 days after the robbery and named Roy L. Davis, 22, of Flint as one of two men who robbed him. Davis was charged with armed robbery and was arrested in Flint within a month of the robbery, police said.

Police said Davis was out on bond and stopped by Baltimore’s apartment before the arraignment, possibly threatening Baltimore. Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth said in a documentary that he believes Baltimore was scared to testify''

''Wrigglesworth believes Henry was killed and his remains are somewhere between East Lansing and Flint.''

''He believes the two men who knocked on Baltimore’s door know what happened to Baltimore.''

anything with him.

He was last seen wearing black and grey shoes, a black turtleneck sweater, and light grey slacks.

Just heard of this case re: the recent Yahoo article. Very sad. It's always unfortunate when someone disappears (and is presumed deceased, as in this case), but it's especially unfortunate when the person is young & has their whole life ahead of them.

It seems evident that Henry's disappearance was connected to his having been robbed not long before. I.e., I don't see that he would have "skipped town" and vanished voluntarily - especially given that he was going to college & had clear goals in mind as to what he was going to do after graduation.

Nice article, but nothing new reported.

The headline which states that Henry was the FIRST black Michigan State Drum Major is somewhat innacurate.

It is true that Henry was a drum major with the MSU Spartan Marching Band, but he was one of TWO black drum majors that year (fall 1972). The other guy was Raymond Hough (pronounced Huff) and they debuted simultaneously as dual drum majors.

The article indicating that Roy Davis returning items that he stole from Henry was cause for the charges against him being dropped is not accurate. Davis, indeed hoped that would be the case, but the prosecutor was intent on proceeding with the trial. It wasn't so much about the stolen items as it was about the crime of armed robbery with a leathal weapon.

Henry did not show up as a witness at the first scheduled hearing out of fear from Davis' threats. Rather than letting Davis off, the judge postponed the trial, and Henry was subpoened to appear as a witness.

It was because Henry went missing and did not appear at the trial, that charges against Davis were dropped. So Davis did benefit from Henry's disappearance. He later served prison sentences for other crimes.

The photo of Henry in uniform which accompanies the article is a good one. It is, however one of him in his high school band uniform, a few years prior to his time in the MSU Band.

Henry Baltimore, age 21
Missing since 30 May 1973

November 1972 marked the end of Big 10 Football season (except for Bowl Games). Henry Baltimore had just debuted as Drum Major for the Michigan State University Spartan Marching band that fall. He had been a member of the drum line the two previous years.

Henry went missing in May 1973 only 6 months later and has not been seen since.

''Police took DNA from Baltimore’s family members, making DNA available in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Wriggelsworth said he spoke with witnesses in 2014 who said they did not remember the case at all.''
You don’t forget witnessing a crime. Something shady is going on

Recently saw the short documentary "What Happened to Henry?" (2019) - this is free on Youtube.

Excellent doc. This definitely "fills in the blanks" to some extent re: this case. If the two witness accounts are accurate, it seems like the two men who were knocking on his door (on the day he was last seen) have some knowledge about what happened to him.

Thanks for posting this doc. I don't like to always post links to other articles/videos because sometimes they've been taken down by the site. I.e., I don't know what the "rules" are re: what you can & can't post.

''When he disappeared, Henry was tangled in a court case against Roy Davis, a then 22-year-old Flint man.

Davis and a second man who was never identified were accused of robbing Henry at gunpoint on March 3, 1973, and tying him to his bed in the apartment he shared with George Heath and Paul Lott Jr. of Jackson and Tony Ransom of Detroit, a member of the MSU football team. The gunmen stole a golf bag, watch, clothing and $110 in cash.

Henry waited 10 days to report the crime, doing so only at his father's urging. He told police he had been threatened by Davis and feared for his life.

Davis was charged with armed robbery, but Henry didn't show up in East Lansing's 54th District Court to testify against him at the preliminary examination. A warrant was issued for Henry's arrest.

Two days later, Henry resurfaced, paid a $50 fine and asked police to drop the case. They didn't. Davis was bound over to Ingham County Circuit Court for arraignment on June 1.

By then, Henry had disappeared.''

''Lonnie, who was then 17, tried to investigate what might have happened to the older brother he idolized. He theorizes that Davis may have had a connection to a Baltimore family cousin who also lived in Flint and like Davis had previous brushes with the law.''

Davis, who had an alibi from his mother at the time Henry vanished, was never arrested for Henry's disappearance. A 2007 posting on an Internet site dedicated to mysterious cold cases alleged Davis was then living in Louisiana.''
