After she sentenced him & got up from the bench to leave, Judge Evans yelled, "TAKE HIM OUT! TAKE HIM OUT!" I had to laugh -- I was kinda hoping for gunshots to ring out in the courtroom, but I guess the deputies knew she was only speaking figuratively.

Judge Evans said the same thing when she sentenced D'Andre Lane for aggravated child abuse and the murder of his 2-year-old daughter, Bianca, whose remains have never been found. Lane talked back to the Judge after she imposed sentence, and she told the deputies to "Take him out!"

Detroit — Robert Bashara has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for the 2012 killing of his wife, Jane.

"You once said you were living the dream, but you're now living a nightmare that you created. I have no mercy for you." Wayne Circuit Judge Vonda Evans said during her sentencing.

Earlier Thursday, the trial, already marked by unexpected twists, took another bizarre turn when Bashara asked for a mistrial during his sentencing hearing, claiming prosecutors and the media compromised his right to a fair trial...

You got that right! Judge Evans wouldn't have allowed Jodi or her defense team pull the carp that they've gotten away with in two trials. I lost confidence in and respect for Judge Stephens to the point that I'm not following the retrial of the sentencing phase. JSS' courtroom is too loosey-goosey, and I don't trust her to sentence JA to life without parole if the jury doesn't vote for death. :moo:

Victim's mom to Bashara: Rot in jail, burn in hell

Lorraine Engelbrecht had a scathing message for Robert Bashara, the man responsible for killing her daughter, Jane:

"You took Jane's life, but I want you to live awhile," she said during Bashara's sentencing hearing Thursday. "I'm not going to be here that long, but every day I live, I want to think about you ... rotting in jail, and you burning in hell."

Engelbrecht's remarks followed those of her daughter, Julie Rowe, who said she hopes Bashara has a long life.

"Every minute you spend in your slab in your cell...I will come and go as I please," Rowe said. "And every moment will be all the more sweet knowing you are uncomfortable and miserable ... for the rest of your pathetic life." ...

Businessman Bob Bashara has been sentenced to life behind bars for arranging the murder of his wife so that he could devote more time to women who shared his love for sexual bondage.

During the hearing, the former Rotary Club president wiped away tears as Jane Bashara's mother and sister told the court about their pain in the three years since she was found killed.

'Every day I live I want to think about you rotting in jail and someday burning in hell,' his mother-in-law Lorraine Engelbrecht told him in court.

Wayne County Judge Vonda Evans told called Bashara 'a master of manipulation' as he handed down the sentence.

'You lived in two worlds,' Evans said. 'Light - your family, community and friends. And darkness where your lies were your truth and your truth was a lie... I have no mercy for you.'

Bashara, 57, known as 'Master Bob,' was found guilty of first-degree murder in December but throughout the trial, he had repeatedly declared his innocence.

'I loved my Jane dearly,' he defiantly told the court on Thursday. 'I will never stop fighting for justice and truth until my hands are raw, blood comes from my eyes and I take my last breath. I am innocent of anything to do with my wife's' death.

The judge told him: 'The only person you ever loved was yourself', the Detroit Free Press reported.

Jane Bashara's sister, Julie Rowe, had similarly scathing words as she addressed him in court.

'Bob lied to all of us. Bob manipulated all of us,' Rowe said. 'Bob utterly betrayed all of us.

Two members of the jury in the trial against Bob Bashara have given us an inside look at how they found the Grosse Pointe Park man guilty of murdering his wife.

Jury foreman Bill Mahney and juror No. 16 Regis Johnson said the jury was attentive, emotional and worked through the three months of evidence presented to them to find Bashara guilty of murdering his wife Jane at the hands of his handyman, Joe Gentz.

When it came to Bob himself, the jurors simply didn't believe the man who, they say, lived his life by having other people clean up his messes...

Detroit — Prosecutors painted Robert Bashara as a lying, cheating manipulator who betrayed his family, and people in both his Grosse Pointe social circles and the sex dungeons he frequented — but none of that swayed the men and women who found him guilty of first-degree murder, according to two jurors who met with the media on Tuesday...

...“The majority of the testimony did not paint a very flattering picture of Bashara,” said Mohney, a scuba diving instructor. “But … my opinion of the man has nothing to do with determining whether he did or did not do something that he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison for.”

Added Johnson: “I didn’t find a direct correlation between his lifestyle and his ability to commit murder. I think what was more important was, once the picture was painted of him, he came across as a narcissistic sociopath, which had nothing to do with his sexual practices.” ...
