Recovered body confirmed to be missing Flushing woman, sheriff says

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is giving an update on the case of a missing Flushing woman, Kelly McWhirter.

GENESEE CO., Mich. (WNEM) - Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said the body recovered in Saginaw County is confirmed to be the Flushing woman who went missing in October.

The body of a person discovered last week in Saginaw County has been identified as Kelly McWhirter. Police believe her estranged husband killed her.

The body of a person discovered last week in Saginaw County has been identified as a missing Flushing woman.

The victim was identified Monday as Kelly McWhirter, a 60-year-old former county sheriff's office secretary who had worked at the county commission in retirement but had been missing since Oct. 14, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Police believe she was killed by her estranged husband, Steven Higgins, who fatally shot himself after his car was stopped by police on Oct. 20...
