Eric Ruska to be charged at the federal level
The criminal complaint in the case of the United States against Eric Scott Ruska said, "On or about July 8, 2017, Eric Scott Ruska unlawfully kidnapped and sexually assaulted an identified adult female whose initials are L.M.W."
In the rest of the complaint, L.M.W. recounts her days with Ruska, beginning with the fishing trip planned on Chicago Lake in Delta County. According to her statement, "Ruska told L.M.W. that he did not get her on the boat to go fishing. Ruska then informed L.M.W. that he was going to sexually assault her and that he would kill L.M.W. and her family if she refused."
L.M.W. had also advised that Ruska threatened to shoot her, but she did not see a gun. She thought she may have seen a knife.
According to L.M.W.'s statement, while still on the boat in Chicago Lake, "Ruska punched [her] in the chest, slapped her in the face, and held her down and forcefully sexually assaulted her."
After that, Ruska dropped her off on an island while he went back to shore to retrieve his vehicle. When he returned, he took L.M.W. back to shore and "ratchet strapped her to the front passenger seat" of his vehicle.
Over the next several days, Ruska transported L.M.W. through the Hiawatha National Forest, traveling through Marquette, Delta, and Alger counties. According to L.M.W., Ruska sexually assaulted her multiple times.
