A 10-month-old died after her parents refused to get help for religious reasons, police say

A 10-month old girl died of malnutrition and dehydration after her Christian parents allegedly refused to seek medical help for religious reasons, fear of child services and a lack of trust in medical services.

In video sermons, the man railed against vaccines, “bad medicine” and doctors whom he deemed to be “priesthoods of the medical cult.”

And he explained why he refused to vaccinate his children, saying: “It didn’t seem smart to me that you would be saving people who weren’t the fittest. If evolution believes in survival of the fittest, well then why are we vaccinating everybody? Shouldn’t we just let the weak die off and let the strong survive?”

Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari, both 27, have been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of their daughter, Mary.


The pair, have two older children together, aged two and four, are being held without bond and court records do not list lawyers who can speak on their behalf.

I am just about 100% sure that there are no "religious reasons" for starving your infant to death.

this is malnutrition and dehydration, not a disease! I sorta understand the underlying argument (agnostic that I am) but not when it is something as common and easy to fix as malnutrition and dehydration.

Why do parents think it is ok to ignore and abuse a child and are then shocked when their excuses are revealed for what they are purely selfish and evil. When did a childs life become disposable?

I think you have a very good point. I can't explain it any other way. Very sad what excuses these people come up with when they murder their children.

I run a very big, global knitting group on Facebook and the people that we have the most trouble with have home pages like his, almost without exception. They post their religious posts and are unable to posts under the rules of the group and when we delete them they go on big ranting, insulting, raves and tell us we are going to hell as if they are the gate keeper to anywhere else.

I am a firm believer that God is The Great Physician and he answered prayers to heal that baby's medical issues. ** He provided physicians, mds, nurse practitioners, nurses and all kinds of medications and clinics and hospitals --- right under these parents noses.

God made the way, parents denied the ways provided, baby dies, parents go to jail.

I'm a spiritual person, not religious. I don't always make the right choices.

But these dang parents refused to see the whole entire forest by focusing on one single, solitary tree.

And then they want to get bent out of shape by people who don't understand God, or obey God, or whatever it is they are saying tonight while being mad at everyone except themselves.

Also, how long before they forgive the judges, policeman, jailers, prosecutors, etc etc. After all, God tells us to forgive.

These parents appeared to be worshipping a God designed by intolerant, ignorant , undereducated, confused, misled men.

Infuriates me when children suffer due to parents like these.

And then I must ask for forgiveness and I must forgive and it goes on & on...

And the mother is pregnant with child number 4. I hope there are sane, loving grandparents ready and willing to raise the surviving children ages 4 and 2. The father also has an 8 year old with another woman. RIP sweet, innocent Mary.

I wonder if she always small and malnourished? A baby can lose a lot of weight and become dehydrated with a bout of gastroenteritis in a short time, but you get them treatment and on a drip if it is bad enough.

I sure hope so. In one of his videos (starting at 3:05) he says he is having a difficult relationship with his parents because they are ”worldly“ and ”trapped“. If this nut job says so, I‘m confident his parents are sane.

I'm just glad the other children have been removed from the home, and I'm hoping that their caregiver(s) do not share the same values, etc., as those sick & cruel parents.
