Private donors have raised $100,000 for information leading to the conviction of Paige Stalker’s killer. “This crime didn’t happen in a bubble,” Detroit police Capt. Eric Decker said. A $10,000 reward has been offered by Crime Stoppers.

A new $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of the murderer of a Grosse Pointe Farms teen.

Paige Stalker, 16, was killed and three other teens were injured in a Christmas week spray of gunfire from a semi-automatic rifle. Police are calling the Dec. 22 shooting a “ robbery gone bad.”

A fifth teen was not injured in the incident. which took place in the desolate area of Philip near Charlevoix. Nothing was stolen during the attack, which police said lasted just a few seconds.

The reward money was raised by a group of private donors and is being offered through the non-profit Detroit Crime Commission, the Detroit Free Press reports. Andrew Arena, the executive director of the group and retired bureau chief of the Detroit FBI, said the reward is one of the largest he’s ever seen.

The donors, who know the Stalker family and one another, “want this crime solved,” Arena said...

Are the other teens recovering? What are they saying about why they were where they were and about what happened?

^ There have been no updates on the other teens who were injured in the shooting. Their names have never been released :waitasec: No information about what the teens were doing in Detroit that night other than they were parked on a dark street smoking pot.

Crime Stoppers press conference will begin shortly: http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/...paige-stalker-make-public-statements/30472856

ETA: Crime Stoppers reward now $12,500. $13,500 if tip called in by midnight 12/31/14.

Various family members offering thoughts about Paige and encouraging anyone with information about the crime to call in anonymous tips.

Paige's family members visited the crime scene this morning on their way to the press conference. They placed flowers near a tree. They were warmly greeted by community members who stopped by to talk to the family about the tragic shooting.

Per Paige's grandfather, the shooter got out of the passenger side of the vehicle, so he couldn't have been alone. Won't speculate on motive; has heard several rumors but doesn't know if any are true.

Paige's mother indicates that Paige only knew one of the other teens in the car that night (a girlfriend, M.). Calls the perpetrator a coward and says that the teens were in no way a threat to anyone.

Reward grows in case of slain Grosse Pointe Farms teen

Jim Lynch, The Detroit News 11:14 a.m. EST December 31, 2014

Detroit — The reward for information in a Dec. 22 shooting that killed a Grosse Pointe Farms teen continues to grow.

Crime Stoppers is putting up $12,500 for information that leads to an arrest in the case of slain University Liggett School student Paige Stalker. Previously, the organization, which encourages support for law enforcement investigations, had set a reward of $10,000...

Nine days after her 16-year-old daughter was shot dead in a car full of teens on Detroit's east side, a grieving Grosse Pointe Farms mother visited the scene to say good-bye...

Family members said Paige only knew the driver, her best friend, and that she'd planned on returning home in 15 minutes to go see movie at Partridge Creek with her 9-year-old brother and older sister. They said they didn't know how she ended up with strangers in Detroit...

Paige's family has adamantly denied that Paige was smoking marijuana. It appears that when a man ordered the teens to get out, the driver panicked and started to drive off, and the gunman started firing rounds, according to police.

First reports that Paige only knew one of the teens, a girl, made me think that she was somewhat an unwilling participant in what was going on the car. Now finding out her best friend was the driver I'm more willing to believe she was a willing participant.

^ During the press conference yesterday, Paige's grandfather outlined how Paige ended up in the car in Detroit. Apparently her friend, M, came to Paige's house because they were leaving from there with Paige driving to see a movie at Partridge Creek (Clinton Township). Dave Lawrence said that the friend got a call or text about going to pick someone up a few blocks away (presumably, the Detroit neighborhood). The girls said they would be back in 15 minutes and still be able to make the movie at 9:30PM.

ETA: This is slightly OT but related to the teens driving that night. Early report (per grandfather) was that Paige's older sister and younger brother were going to the movie with Paige and her friend. The older sister would have to be in the vehicle for Paige to drive after 10:00PM when they returned home from Partridge Creek. Michigan driving laws preclude teen drivers from driving between 10:00PM and 5:00AM unless the travel meets certain criteria.

DETROIT -
Since the night of Dec. 22, 2014, when a car full of teenagers was attacked by an AK-toting man on Phillip near Charlevoix, Detroit police have been working on piecing together why it happened.

Why in the world would a car full of kids doing nothing but smoking weed have 30 rounds fired at them?

Paige Stalker, a standout high school student from Grosse Pointe Farms, did not survive the attack. Three others in the car were seriously injured...

Police looking into new motives in the murder of Grosse Pointe Farms teen Paige Stalker

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Investigators working on the murder of 16-year-old Paige Stalker are working different theories based on tips and talking with the other teens in the car, 7 Action News has learned.

Some have said this was a random robbery, but sources confirm to 7 Investigator Jim Kiertzner that cops are also looking at the possibility this was a targeted hit, because one of the teens has connections to drug dealers. Also in this case, this was a targeted hit but the wrong car and the wrong people were hit.

Detroit Homicide Captain Eric Decker will not discuss specifics...

Exactly one month after four Grosse Pointe teens were shot in Detroit – one fatally – police are focusing in on a suspect, and following up on what they see as solid leads, but have yet to make an arrest...

The shooting, and the $100,000-plus reward in the case, has underscored some longstanding issues: Grosse Pointe’s fragile relationship with Detroit; race and socioeconomic differences; and the little secret – that wasn’t so secret to everybody -- that for years some of Grosse Pointe’s youths have been going into the city to buy marijuana and smoke it there to avoid the watchful eye of the Grosse Pointe Police.

On a bitterly cold night, family, friends and caring people from neighboring communities gathered to honor and remember Paige Stalker on what would have been her 17th birthday...

"I hope people learn from this," Toston said. "Peace instead of war. We got innocent kids getting killed and it's just ridiculous."

During the vigil, it was announced that a unity march will be held April 25.
