Sadly this isnt the first time this sort of thing has happened around here. Do you remember the case from 2003- Where Manual Gehring killed his two children Philip and Sarah Gehring ? He dumped their bodies off of the same turnpike area that they are searching now for these boys. In fact, US Marshalls and other LE literally walked my property along with others searching for their bodies! (Yes I live that close to the turnpike that we were included in the search area). It was very chilling to see this. Also there was another case in Fulton county, Ohio (I believe it was in Swanton) many years ago too where the husband stabbed or shot his wife, then killed the 2 children, and shot at EMT's/police as they came to the standoff. The helicopters were flying right over my house that day as well, that's how close to me this was too. I cannot believe how many times these horrific crimes have been so close to my location, and now this one as well =(

ok I found the story of the other case I was referring to- it actually wasn't that long ago, just 4 yrs. It was the Saunder's family, here's the article:

Good point Pollywog! Never thought I would see the day when I respected a dead beat dad or mom, but that would certainly be preferable to what this monster has apparently done. He could have simply said "screw this" and moved back to Florida. If he did it to get out of paying child support, then he is a bigger fool than I already have him pegged for. I mean really - DID HE REALLY THINK HE COULD GET AWAY WITH THIS??? Really??? He is apparently also an arrogant fool.

I don't think he was thinking. If he did what I think he did, he was acting on emotions and selfishness. I believe he also intended to kill himself but chickened out. Philip Resnick wrote several books and articles about parents who kill. Resnick cites several cases where the parent intended to die but couldn't go through with that part of his/her plan--although the parent successfully murdered the child/children.

Google Resnick and filicide...there are a lot of his articles online.

new story with types of evidence searchers are finding:
sbm-
"Over the past few days, searchers have found any number of items that seemed to carry the possibility — however remote — of being linked to the boys’ disappearance. Reports included a child’s jacket north of Morenci and a paper towel stained with what could have been blood along a road in Ohio. Paul “Chico” Martinez of Adrian was in a group searching south of Pioneer near Holiday City and a nearby golf course. Walking through a farm field, he spotted two new Crayola markers, which he said were collected by authorities."http://www.lenconnect.com/news/x1316692500/As-rumors-swirl-searchers-continue-their-painstaking-task

I'm going to guess his mother gave him money for the trips and probably for other things as well.

When I heard JS' mother defend her son on national and local TV, I knew instinctively that she was in denial. In her mind, her boy can do no wrong, and she will defend him to the ends of the earth. Not long after Skelton's mother spoke in support of her son, he's lawyered-up and limited in what he'll say to authorities. Thanks, Mom

I'm local and they are NOT reporting that JS admitted killing his sons...do we have actual confirmation (tape) of a police spokesperson or fed saying this? Or is this just a viral rumor like finding the bodies was?

Hi jashrema,

I have not seen anything linked to Main Stream Media indicating that JS has confessed to killing his sons. The LE at the presser stated "not looking for a good outcome" - paraphrased by me.

My head will rest again this evening with the albeit probably naive thought that they are safe and being cared for somewhere. Only the head will rest - the heart will not.

Godspeed to the searchers when dawn breaks - may these precious boys be found.

Lenconnect.com had a interesting comment about 15 down. Said lots of rumors with a list of 4. #2... Truck Stop in Holiday city was also known as Joann's Truck Stop

I just came home from a great heartwrenching day in the ICU; because of one father's generosity, there will be people alive this Christmas because of his selfless decision to donate his child's organs after a horrendous accident.

Now, I come and read about a selfish father who has deprived the world of three boys who may have been who knows who, changing the face of the world in their own way.

What a paradox. To see a father's love manifested in the gift of life for strangers, and to read about the exact opposite...

My prayers are with the boys, and their mother, and all who loved and knew them. There will be a candle lit for them on Christmas Eve at the Herding household.

Probably, any mother would be in denial about something this awful...how could one not be? I can't imagine they could say anything else besides "my son would never..."

Having lived in that area (not Morenci) I can tell you that there are small towns spaced apart by 10, 15 miles and some as small as 500 people. Most people who were born and raised in the area are related in one way or another and almost everyone knows everyone. John was fairly new to the area because he married a local woman. I guarantee you people knew John and he had no idea he knew people looking at him and maybe watching him knew him. When people say who would ever find those children I promise you that all the farmers knew every inch of their property and would know if something was not right. If you have never lived in a area like that you will never understand it. If you have you will. I think he felt like an outsider. His wife divorcing him and having to pay child support and knowing he would most likely have to move away from his kids to find work may have pushed him to do what he did. Maybe more people were on "her side" in this divorce. He had no family around and he was feeling desperate. What he did was horrible. It's a fact of life people snap. I wish he had someone to talk to but IMO he probably didn't. I don't condone what he did and hope he gets whatever is coming to him. It's just the way I see things after living in a area like this. And there are areas like this all over the USA.
I'm really sorry but that is just ********. He was lonely? Isolated? People need to stop making excuses for these wastes of human flesh. IT was his job to protect these children, it is unforgivable there is no excuse.

most hospital policy is to be brought out in a wheelchair. I was after being in for 2 days with stomach pains.

I have also fractured my foot and wrist previous and put an ace bandage on it to heal it.
I have also had fractures where I did go to the hospital but typically an adult especially a man tends to try and deal with it a day or two and see how it goes. Men tend to be the last one to amdit they need medical help for a cold, an injury and footpain
I find it odd to be taken to hosp after a hurt foot.
To be honest if I wanted to get an injury in order to go to hospital to make it look as injured.. well I suppose I could lift my sofa and put foot under it to cause fracture, or take a hammer to it, or jump from a tree in my front yard, let the tv fall on it.. in other words if he has a fracture.. it was self inflicted and not from a sucide attempt.

I hope the xrays of the foot can tell what angle it was at and how it could of happened.

When I was a teen I hurt my arm and told my mom that I fell out of shower... she took me to ER and they said oh no way.. this is from a "twisted arm"... and in fact it WAS FROM A TWISTED ARM.. a boyfriend had grabbed me and i was trying to cover for him. What I am saying is even the foot fracture could tell alot on his so called suicide if from a fall, a crushing blow etc. Not all fractures are the same and dr's can tell so much more than we think they can.. .that's why they are expert witnesses... so mr skelton you may not of hung yourself.. but perhaps you are soon to hang yourself with your lies. !

you can outsmart some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.. LE is well aware and on to this monster does he really think he can get out of this...

Those little boys faces wake me in the middle of the night.. i cant get this off my mind... a child, a child of your own... how could he??? Please God when the details come out please do not have let the little boys suffered.

A quick check of the Yahoo yellow pages didn't turn up a listing for Joann's Truck Stop in Holiday City. I guess that would have been too easy.:waitasec:

Words fail me. It is days like these that without my own babies to hold tight that I would completely lose all hope for humanity.

I was releived when I got on here today and there wasnt a "found deceased" next to their name......however after reading I now have a sinking feeling and think I will avoid this thread for a week or so as I think the outcome is going to be heartbreaking......this touches me as my boys are 5 & 6 and hero worship their dad....sorry cant type anymore...

The poster said was "known" as. Maybe it was once named that or the person who first owned it was named Joann I guess that would be to simple huh:waitasec:

The thank-you button was not enough, Herding Cats.

Thank-you for your post (even though it made me cry).

Way too simple. Unfortunately, life never is. If there were a clear, traceable tie to a Joann's Truck Stop then we could say that was where the dad got the name for his "contact." We have several businesses out here that are called by a proper name, such as BP, but are also known by the owner's name, such as Jerry's Service Station. And that's how they are listed in the phone book.
