BDE- all questions I have as well! Did the employer try to call her to see why she did not come in? Did she have a cell phone on her? Did they call a land line at the house? Or did they just shrug and not worry about it?
What time did workmen tend to arrive at the site where she was found? How long would someone ( if she were abducted as her husband states..) have had to dispose of her and get out of there?
If she were found fully dressed... what reason would they have had to abduct her?
Were there security cameras at the business? Or nearby?
There seems to be so little to go on in the news...

...Family members who arrived at the construction site say that the clothes found at the scene were the last clothes that Berta Yolanda Reyes was last seen wearing...

http://www.examiner.com/article/missing-mother-yolanda-berta-reyes-of-grand-rapids-mich-found

Does this mean that Yolanda was not dressed and that the clothing was found separate from the body? Wording seems odd :waitasec:

Many of these reports have strange wording. I am operating from the hypothesis that although the people quoted in the various articles, are in fact speaking English, it may not be their first language. Therefore verb placement is at times, odd. It does not change the meaning - per se - but much is left open to interpretation.

This may be unfounded, but since many articles have these odd statements (like the one you cited) I believe it to be true or mostly true. To get an accurate depiction of what is being said here, we would need the reporter and the respondent to speak the most fluent language with one another.

My first language was a mixture of two languages; I have (at times) had similar verb usage issues, with my verb falling toward the end of a sentence.

MOO

Example: Semantics issue -

I to the store go.

I go to the store.

The clothing at the scene, matched those she had been wearing.

She was wearing the same clothing when she was last seen.

This is a rough example of when semantics with the verb would leave the sentence up for interpretation. In Spanish, the verb comes at the end of the sentence; as shown in my examples with the word "wearing."

I hope this helps to provide an example of a semantics error that would be common for someone who's first language presents structure different than the one we are most used to (English).

(or due to my own language issues, it may have further confused the issue).

In this case, whether or not Reyes was dressed makes a difference in the type of abduction/homicide being investigated. Fully clothed suggests something different than if Yolanda was found undressed. The latter would likely indicate sexual assault followed by murder and the body being tossed at the construction site along with her clothing. :moo:

Another question: How many family members saw Yolanda that morning before her husband allegedly dropped her off at the greenhouse at 5:30? Seems like very early in the morning for several people to know what Ms. Reyes was wearing on the morning that she went missing. :moo:

BDE - I absolutely agree with what you've said. However, I wanted to point out that there may be an issue with the statements that the respondents have made, based on their language use.

In other words, I believe that the reporters could be more accurate with their articles, if they were making use of an interpreter. (for example). Unless that is done, we will continue to see these phrases that are open to interpretation - IMHO.

Hoping to read more solid information on this case in the media.

I will be away much of today (opera/dinner) but don't anticipate updates from LE until tomorrow or early in the week. I hope there is more information forthcoming in the case as we know so little.

I wonder if Ms. Reyes will be laid to rest here or in her native Guatemala?

exactly. If she were murdered by her husband I would expect her to be clothed. If abducted, then probably unclothed for obvious reasons. Not sure how much 'disarranging" the earth moving equipment would do tho. Was she buried and 'unearthed' or lying on the surface?

IMO The ground clearing unearthed yolandas clothes she was found separately in water and was covered with mud

If the husband was working else where then he may have dropped her off early. Many years ago I worked night shift and my father use to drop me off an hour before I started.
Also my husband some times dropped me off, did a u turn and took off. Would not have seen me enter the building. These things happen. JMOO

WALKER, MI -- Police are still awaiting a dental records comparison to confirm whether a body found Friday at a construction site is that of Yolanda Reyes, the Grand Rapids mother who went missing more than three weeks ago.

And though the woman's death is listed as a homicide, Walker Deputy Police Chief Greg Long said the classification is based on circumstantial evidence - that the body believed to belong to Reyes was found in a semi-desolate area. The site is a mile from her work, Neal Mast and Son Greenhouses, where the 40-year-old mother of four was reported missing April 24.

"We still don’t have an absolutely determined cause of death," Long said, adding that police are hoping for more forensic evidence...

WALKER, Mich. (May 18, 2014) – The family of Yolanda Reyes is grieving while police search to find who killed the West Michigan mother of four.

The body believed to be that of Reyes, 40, was found partially buried under dirt on Friday at a construction site near Bristol Ridge Condominiums.

That’s not far from where her husband says he dropped her off at Neal Mast & Son Greenhouses on April 24. She never reported for her shift.

Police say they’re investigating Reyes’ death as a homicide in every way, but there have been no arrests...

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — A few days after police said they believed the body of Yolanda Reyes had been found at a construction site, they were working to confirm more information to lead them to her killer.

Berta Yolanda Reyes was last seen alive on April 24 near Neal Mast & Son Greehouse in the area of Bristol Avenue and 4 Mile Road, where the mother of four worked.

Friday, police said they believed Reyes’ body had been found at a construction site off Bristol between 3 Mile Road and I-96 in Walker. The body was discovered by the driver of an earth mover as crews prepared to build a new subdivision.

Monday, police were still waiting on a dental record match to confirm the identity of the body, but said they were proceeding as though it was Reyes and as though she was murdered...

Just for the record, there have been cases where the husband killed his wife then dumped her naked body. Here's one example:

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Family members in two countries are mourning for a Grand Rapids woman positively identified Tuesday as the victim of a homicide.

In Grand Rapids, relatives of Yolanda Reyes - described as the glue of her family - await as police investigate for any clues to who killed the mother of four and left her body at a Walker construction site.

In Guatemala, Reyes' parents and her oldest daughter are grappling with how to have a funeral for the loved one they haven't seen in 15 years. Friend Xeomara Montenegro said family in Guatemala, where Reyes was born, have requested her remains be sent there.

"Everyone said, 'Just make sure you send her here, she always wanted to come back,'" Montenegro said...

In Memory of
Berta Yolanda Reyes-Reyes
Obituary

Arrangements under the direction of Ever Rest Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel, Muskegon, MI.

http://obits.dignitymemorial.com/di...Reyes-Reyes&lc=4030&pid=171085981&mid=5977392

The obituary will probably be updated with additional information today or tomorrow. One of the media articles mentions a funeral mass on Saturday, but her family in Guatemala (parents and adult daughter) would like Yolanda to be laid to rest there. :rose:

...Forensic pathologist Dr. David Start listed her cause of death as "homicide by unspecified means" on the certificate. It was not new information since police a week ago acknowledged it was a homicide...

http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapi..._woman_fo.html

I doubt that the pathologist and LE don't know the cause of death. There are likely important details about the crime that only the perp would know, so information that is specific to the ongoing investigation is not being released at this time. I hope that LE is making progress and will be making an arrest/filing charges shortly. Thoughts and prayers for Yolanda's family and friends. :rose:
