Drive-thru site tests 150 people a day

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – An RV used as part of a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site has been stolen in Rochester Hills.

“I’m not sure why someone would do such a horrible thing,” said Dr. Michael Margolis said, who has been in the hospital treating COVID-19 patients since the pandemic began.

The RV was set up outside of the Rochester Medical Group building in a well lit parking lot on South Boulevard between John R and Rochester roads. The theives slowly backed up a Ford F-150 early Monday morning and stole the testing facility...

Unfrickinbelievable! This is a few miles from our home and where DH had his COVID test before returning to work in July. WTH is wrong with people? :mad::rolleyes::confused:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan is urging undergrad students who don’t have to be on campus to stay home and take remote classes during the winter semester due to the spread of COVID-19.

The university announced all housing contracts for undergrads are being canceled for the winter semester.

Michigan’s winter semester plans include more remote courses and fewer undergraduate students living on campus. The university wants to reduce the number of people living in residence halls...

As a surge of coronavirus cases impacts communities across the state, several Michigan school districts are weighing or have already pivoted entirely to remote learning to slow the spread.

Livonia Public Schools halts in-person instruction for middle, high schoolers until Nov. 16

Move made due to increased coronavirus cases

LIVONIA, Mich. – Livonia Public Schools is stopping in-person instruction for its middle and high schoolers until Monday, Nov. 16 due to increased COVID cases, the district’s superintendent, Andrea Oquist, announced in a letter sent to families on Friday.

“Today, we have made a determination after extensive review, consultation and recommendation from the health department, to pause in-person instruction for our middle schools and high schools until Monday, November 16th. This means students at our middle and high schools only will participate in remote learning for the week ahead,” wrote Oquist...
 
Three Beaumont hospitals reinstate visitor restrictions as COVID-19 cases rise

Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe are limiting the visitation starting Tuesday as COVID-19 cases rise in Michigan.

The restrictions will take effect at 8 a.m. to protect patients and staff, officials said.

“Community positivity rates have jumped to 8-11% in the area," said Dr. Nick Gilpin, medical director of infection prevention and epidemiology for Beaumont Health, in a Monday statement.

"Last spring, we took care of the most COVID-19 patients in the state and we know that taking difficult steps like restricting visitors will help us keep our patients and our staff safe," he said...
 
Clarkston Community Schools shift to distance learning due to spread of COVID-19

Officials say there are 35 positive COVID-19 cases, hundreds in quarantine

CLARKSTON, Mich. – Clarkston Community Schools says it has 35 positive COVID-19 cases in the school district and hundreds of staff in students in quarantine. Because of that, and a recommendation from the health division, all Clarkston Community Schools will be shifting to distance learning.

Farmington Public Schools board votes to continue remote learning for elementary schools until at least Jan. 11

Board voted Tuesday with recommendation from district superintendent

FARMINGTON, Mich. – The Farmington Public Schools Board of Education voted on Tuesday for elementary schools to remain in remote learning until at least Jan. 11, 2021.

According to school officials, the board voted unanimously on the decision. The recommendation was presented to the board by district superintendent Bob Herrera.

“While the District feels that we are prepared to return K-5 students to in-person learning and have the highest level of mitigation strategies in place, the District administration is making the recommendation to the Board of Education that we remain in Distance Learning until at least January 11, 2021,” Herrera said...

Coronavirus spread up in Michigan ahead of Thanksgiving

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – With Thanksgiving approaching in two weeks, college students must decided if it is worthwhile to visit home for the holiday -- and risk potentially spreading COVID-19 to their families.

At the University of Michigan, students living on campus are being required to take a COVID-19 test before leaving campus.

University spokesman Rick Fitzgerald says students are being asked to get tested within the seven days before going home to their families. He says it takes about two to three days to receive test results...
 
Oakland University moves classes online as COVID-19 surges

My BF's Dad passed away last night from COVID. He was 87, so there were underlying conditions. He lived in a VERY remote area of MI.

They are having a funeral Friday and my BF wants me to come. I told my two grown sons and they said NOOOOOOO MOM. Love them for their protectiveness, but I think they are right.

I'm glad the governor shut things down again. JS and IMO
