Since this was on the Appalachian Trail, I think they should look into all crimes up and down the trail, since it crosses main roads and runs through Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

I was thinking there has been a string of unsolved murders over the years of hikers along the Appalachian Trail. Like you, I think there should be some serious investigating on that angle!

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead told Channel 2 the GBI Crime Lab is awaiting the results of a rape kit administered during the autopsy of Meredith Emerson to confirm or refute suspicions she was sexually assaulted.

The GBI has asked other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to assist in putting together a timeline of suspect Gary Hilton's whereabouts in recent years.

Also, Channel 2 has been told human remains identified as those of Emerson were found in two different locations -- each off a different road in Dawson County. Both scenes have been completely processed by GBI crime specialists.

That horrible, horrible person. I hope Dawson County goes for broke on this case.

So we have two people murdered in the same way, 2 different locations, yet both in National forests or National Parks. This looks very much like the Bryants are going to turn out to be his vics also. I am wondering if the two girls killed in the Shanendoah (sp) Park in VA also had cc and bank cards stolen..or money? Was that ever reported in that case?

If you were going to outside ATM's at banks..but the bank card wasn't from that bank..would the ATM still work? I didn't think that it would. I am thinking that this man has it togather in some aspects and not in others. Like he thinks every bank ATM will accept every card, yet knows to change car plates and dismember bodies to throw off ID. He really is a very scary person, half sane and half very insane.

Actually, most bank cards (either plain ATM cards or Debit cards) are accepted at most ATM machines, whether the ATM is from that same bank or not. There are several ATM networks (Cirrus, Shazam, just to name two) that ATMs belong to - they normally belong to more than one network. So, I could use my ATM card if I travel out of state (or out of the country) as long as my ATM card and the machine I'm at are part of the same network.

... I used to work for a company that made ATM software, so I thought I'd help with that one. :)

They are saying her remains were found in two different places in Dawson Forest.

Thank you hprofits:). Due the possibly the slowest dial-up in Texas (5kbs/sec--no joke), I can't play video, and I can't even get many informative news links up. I depend mainly on cable news and news info posted here by the great folks of ws.

I still believe the decapitation may be an integral part of his signature, and it is not common to decapitate. We may hear of stories where this has happened, but of the many, many thousands of murders few killers decapitate their victims. At least it is doubtful that this slime will never walk the earth free again.

Thank you, you're right..on vacation I have used my debit card at ATM's that were part of that network. Maybe he doesn't comprehend that part of it. But really I think that she basically was trying to buy herself some time, either hoping she could free herself or that she would be rescued.

I'm still working on a list that includes I-75, I-77, the Appalachian Trail, I-85, and I-95.

It's taking me forever, as I have at last count, 152 cases dating back to 1978. I'm hesitant to post it in its entirety, because I want to verify many of the details. I'm also looking at UID's.

I hope to have it narrowed down by tomorrow, as I'm waiting for some PD's to return my calls.

I agree, Lion. This is what makes me think that the still unidentified body located in Franklin County, Ga late last Spring which was recovered without a head might be connected to him as well...

This creep can very well be tied into alot of disappearances. Hopefully GIB can find the answers to some unsolved cases.:furious:

I have a credit/debit card i can use for either credit or debit (atms) and it works in all different states. Visa is usually accepted in most atms.

On one of the other blogs..and it could have even been comments left after a news article, I'm not sure where I heard it, but I thought either yesterday or theis morning soemone was speaking about him being seen at the HH or Huddle House. It just didn't make sense until this news article where they were saying he went in there to use the phone. He really was quite brazen for someone who had recently kidnapped a women and her dog.

Did anyone else see those comments on another blog?

I guess a lot of what is bothering me about this case is I have lived in the same area as him for 1.5 years. He was so familiar to me that I called a friend to see if he was one of the guys that worked on a construction project with us. But, maybe I just saw him at Kroger or at the Chevron station where he was arrested and I buy my gas. I feel so helpless knowing what I know about crimes and yet, the most heinous individual was in my path all along.

I don't have pets but if I did I would have met him at Murphy Candler Park like so many others. It does make us understand that these calls from people saying they are harassed by kooks in a park or there is an odd person on my street corner needs a closer look. For years, people have been talking about him and as DeltaDawn posted there is not much LE can do. This has to change and this has to be where citizens are heard for these complaints. Not one from some irate neighbor but over and over. Not even counting relatives who are concerned and get a non-compliant attitude but there is nothing LE can do. So many end up dead after the fact.

Actually I did read that somewhere? He asked to use the restraurants phone and stayed on for quite awhile...and the people at the restraurant weren't aware of him being a suspect at that time. So they couldn't ID him, which if they had would have, most certainly saved Meredith's life.

The man is a sociopath, unfortunately Meredith did not see him coming!
I agree with the poster above, I think he liked dogs, and thought no one would ID Ella, wrong!!!!!

CP this looks familiar to me too, but I don't think I ever actually laid eyes on him. I think he just has that familiar homeless look.

I just sent the info to GBI.

Maybe Melissa's case deserves a closer look, but details are hard to find.

That is OK. They are an investigative agency but the link you provided is crucial and that is what is important. You did good.

I think switching plates was probably something he started a long time ago thinking it would lead people away from him being recognized at the ATM machines...switch plates and you're not the white Astro van owner at the bank. Remember the disquise he had , the mask on his face, if that is him in the ATM video from the Dunlap case, so he knew ATM's had cameras. I still don't feel he thought anyone was specifically looking for him...he spent too much time cleaning out that van and talking to the man at the convenience/ gas station ..he felt pretty comfortable by that time that he was not about to be caught. I think he was just cleaning up to go onto his next victim..thank God that he was caught.

Where did the info come from of the man talking to him at the gas station?

Jennifer Kesse, missing from Orlando, FL since January 24, 2006.... 24, safety conscious, street smart like Meredith. No dog involved, her car was driven by someone other then her and there is video footage of the person parking her car about a mile from her condo. Please visit www.findjenniferkesse.com and watch the complete video of the suspect and tell me if you think that in some remote chance this could be the suspect in Jennifer Kesse's disappearance. The only difference is with Jennifer's case, nothing else has been found except for her car- no clothes, no purse, no use of her credit cards or atm cards, nothing... it's like she's vanished. Thursday, January 24 marks 2 years since Jenn went missing. Please help us find her.
