PALATKA, FL -- The woman who put Haleigh Cummings to bed the night she disappeared was robbed Monday evening while at an apartment complex.

Misty Cummings, who is recently divorced from Haleigh's father, was with two friends Monday evening at the Ragsdale Apartments in the parking lot. One friend got out of the car to talk to someone and when she returned, "two or three black males jumped on Cummings taking her purse and pulling her out of the vehicle," the report said.

Her friend admits they went there to buy drugs, a crushed pill bottle with unknown pills inside was found near the purse strap, but she wasn't arrested? Makes absolutely no sense to me! But nothing in this case does...

Police: Misty Cummings, 2 Others Robbed
Officers Say Cummings, 2 Women Robbed At Apartment Complex

According to one of the victims, Brandy Steedley, 18, the women had driven to the complex so that one of the girls in the car could make contact with a friend.

Police said Cummings was able to get back in the vehicle, and she and Steedley drove off in the vehicle. The third girl, identified as 22-year-old Melinda Santmyer, ran off on foot.

Officers located and interviewed Santmyer at an apartment in the complex. She told officers that the three women came to the apartment complex attempting to buy drugs.

Police said she told them she got out of the car to look for an unidentified man the women gave money to for drugs, and as she was going back to the vehicle, the men came up to them and stole Cummings' purse and her purse.

Im sorry but are you kidding me? Tragedy sure follows this girl around. And good to know the people she is with are looking out for her.

Is she an emancipated minor? Because someone should have been charged with child endangerment.

Uh...OK :waitasec: Is it me or was that article really hard to read and understand ? The wording was horrible. (shaking head)

Glad Misty wasn't harmed. Misty needs guidance. Wonder who these women are she was hanging out with? The article states Misty was in the car, and the two guys drug her out and accosted her. She was taken to the hospital. Lots of people buy drugs off the street. But they still don't deserve to be robbed. I think Misty was there hanging out with the older girls. Which are new names we've never heard of

Wonder if these are the friends talked about in the few updates we've had stating since she signed the divorce agreement, came back from new york, she has been residing at. It mentioned two friends in the article a few days ago.

My goodness, she can't go home, she can't go to Ron's. Forced to go stay with these women, geez, what else? She can come stay with me, but there will be rules.

Rule #1 Adore all the members at websleuths hehehe This case is going to make me do drugs and alcohol. Anybody wanna sell me a valium or tranquilizer, and not the kind you give to a horsie. I got some buspar and prozac in the cabinet prescribed to me long ago for pmdd LOL don't take em though. After hearing of that story about the teen who killed his grandparents and he was on prozac, I'm skeered to take them. I got some wine.

And the moral of this story is...drugs are dangerous even when you're just buying them. The End.

Kool, Do you know who it was that forced her to stay with these women?

Are you kidding me? That's so random. First the thing with Donna, now this?

Glad Misty's all right. I don't think it's smart, however, to be out and about buying illegal substances when A. she's one of the main POIs if not the main one and B. there's a sweet little girl who still needs to be found.

I also notice a strange bout of irony in this. Namely, Jr. saying to LE that a black man took Haleigh (or a man in black), then this happens. Wow.

since no arrests were made, does anyone think LE just didn't care since they saw Misty was involved. As the article states, during interviewing the one women, they just took off and left. What and why? That doesn't make a bit of sense, especially since there was bodily injury, and evidence of a physical robbery having just occurred. I wonder if LE escorted Misty to the hospital, if emergency assistance was called by LE.

Every cop show I've seen LE calls the ambulance to the scene. Wonder where these women are from, and where they currently live.

nonono. I meant it to mean: This 17 year old youth, has no where to go. Meaning she is being forced to stay probably somewhere other than where she would like to be as she can't go home to her family, her other family, Ron Cummings has forsaken her, her other friends Tim and Donna betrayed her, her Grandmother is several states away, she's a minor, no home herself.

An article was posted a few days ago, stating misty was staying with two friends, and I was wondering if these were the friends mentioned. But, I guess she could have just hooked up with them, knowing them from her past, or through family or other friends, or just recently met them.

She's got to stay somewhere, so when a person has no options, that's what I meant by "forced".

I read the same article that states that THEY!! were there to buy drugs. Not just two of them. ALL of them.

Where is Misty "forced" to be anywhere she is? She has choices. She's making them. As I recall, her beloved Grandmother in TN said she'd drive and get Misty. She signed the divorce papers with nary a hair turn. She took off with Donna and lived on Tim's largesse for several weeks.

Misty is making her own choices.

Do you think there might be a connection? Not wanting to start rumors, for petes sake :snooty: but remember it's been said Misty was with two females and one male when she left the home of Ron the weekend prior to Haleigh's abduction? Wonder if we've been led the wrong route all along, dunno, just thinking out loud. Probably not though.

Maybe she should have used the drug money to rent a place (assuming the money belonged to M).

What Misty needs is to learn from her own mistakes. If these were illegal drugs, even an arrest and some time in jail would be preferable to od'g, dying, behaving recklessly or driving under the influence, causing the death of someone else etc... But one would HOPE AND PRAY that Misty learned better more responsible choices, learned something from a child going missing--or w/e became of poor Haleigh. :frown:

debs, I said it. And I stand by it strongly. We are talking about an unresourceful teenager for petes sakes. A legal Restraining Order is in place, not yet signed off by a judge so she can't go home. Her husband forsook her. LOL on forsook. I explained this post upwards. Yes shes making choices, sounds pretty desperate situation to me.

Since you brought up choices, where does she have to go live and stay? What friends do Misty have to hang out with? I literally would need tranquilizers if I walked in Mistys shoes in the last 8 months. But I'm not condoning illegal drug purchases, but I do know people that do it because of pain they live with daily and some docs don't do right by their doctors. So I'm not so quick to kick someone down just because. Saying this, without knowing what drugs they were purchasing.

I don't even know too many people that would admit to LE to begin with. I'll wait and get some more confirmations before I believe the entire article. Like the police report.

Maybe she should have used the drug money to rent a place (assuming the money belonged to M).

You have to be legal 18 years old to rent property, sign leases, contracts etc. Some states possibly 21. Shes not an adult yet in the eyes of the law when it comes to these type issues, but you make a good point.

p-lez. Drugs and this sort of excusing attitude are more than likely what got Haleigh "lost" in the first place. JMO

BBM

With how much unbelievable stuff that has happened ever since this case began, this could actually be a possibility. We've seen nearly everything else already.
