Except in this particular case, LE were not 'punishing' anyone.Lodging with criminals, living in crime-laden areas, and sleeping with a gun are not crimes. And even if they were, the justice system decides the punishment - not LE.
A.L. was neither forced nor compelled to lodge with criminals due to poverty.
He made a choice to stay with people who were possibly involved in a homicide.
It's one thing to live in an area with known criminals, but another decision entirely to lodge with them.
There are many cases of LE defending themselves and rightfully so -- but very few (if any) cases where LE are 'punishing' anyone.
They know this is not their job.
The courts will handle it.
If A.L. didn't have his gun in his hand and complied ; there might not have been any charges at all --for him anyway.
If A.L. did face charges, he would have had his day in court.
That is what is a simple fact.
Imo.
