MO MO - Elizabeth 'Betsy' Gill, 2, Cape Girardeau, 13 June 1965

We don't have any new leads. The last DNA we had done came back "no match." We are waiting for DNA to be taken from another woman and then it takes 6-8 months for the results. Along with our local law enforcement we have information to reinforce our original belief that Elizabeth (Beth) Gill was taken by a group of travelers who were in our area going door to door. Sadly, by the time we traced them they had died. We also believe that others in that family clan know what happened June 13, 1965. They have been interviewed by the FBI and offered immunity, but will not talk. Fact: 80% of infants and toddlers are taken by someone wanting a child. These people may have sold Beth on the black market or kept her somewhere within the family. She wouldn't remember us or necessarily know she was "adopted." We will keep searching in the hope that she starts looking for answers or those who know are led by God to come forward. For those of you on Facebook, please join our group. It has been an ongoing nightmare for my Mom for 49 years. It was hard for her to even hold the poster asking for help. She is a strong woman and never wanted pity - just answers and her daughter home. Please continue to share the poster of Mom and help bring Beth home. Thank you everyone for all the support and encouragement you've given our family. You have helped us continue on. May God bless you for your loving thoughts and prayers. I am Elizabeth's sister, Martha. https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net...2_10152486273149574_4782520293946228748_n.jpg

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children lists 16 missing children in Kansas and 51 in Missouri, including Elizabeth Ann Gill, who disappeared in the summer of 1965 when she was 2 years old. She would be 51 today. Her family thinks she is still alive. For years they have held vigils, balloon launches and other events in her name...

Four years ago, friends and family persuaded law enforcement officials to interview members of a transient group who had been in the area at the time the toddler disappeared. The FBI reclassified her case as a kidnapping and opened an investigation.

FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu said Thursday that all leads had been pursued, without resolution.

"The 50th anniversary of her disappearance is drawing closer, but it doesn't matter to the ones who love her how long and hard the search is. They just want to find their Beth, and any exposure her story can get to an audience, big or small, they'll take it.
That's why a new article, posted to a national news network's special crime website, is important to Martha Hamilton. Her younger sister, Elizabeth Ann Gill, disappeared from the yard of their Cape Girardeau home on the afternoon of June 13, 1965, when she was just 2 years old. Police believe the girl may have been taken by people passing through the area. Her family has been looking for her since.

The article, titled "Real Life 'Gone Girl?' Search Continues in 1965 Missing Case" went live Friday morning on a CBS news website, 48 Hours Crimesider. Hamilton was interviewed, along with Cape Girardeau Police detective Jim Smith, who reopened the case in 2003, for the story that details Elizabeth's disappearance and the investigation to date."

"Without a trace: 50 years after she vanished, Beth Gill's family keeps searching"

http://www.semissourian.com/story/2204110.html

Saturday will pass like any other for most people, but one local family likely will spend the day preoccupied with thoughts of their long-missing loved one.

At age 2 1/2, Elizabeth Ann Gill went missing June 13, 1965 -- and the search continues.

Headlines through the decades express the public's frustration with the fruitless investigations and mark the passage of time: "Another Lead Discarded as Hunt for Gill Goes On." "Betsy Gill Missing Now For 3 Weeks." "Betsy Gill Gone 13 Months, But Hunt Persists." "Betsy will be 21: Where Is She?"

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would be waiting 50 years for answers," Gill's sister, Martha Hamilton, said.

I can't get this case out of my head. To still be searching for someone after 50 years is an amazing testament to a person's determination to never give up.

Yesterday was my 50th , Elizabeth was on my mind , I cant imagine how her family feels.

From the Finding Beth Gill facebook page....

We've had a number of new leads in the past few months that law enforcement is checking out. We now have a lady searching for her birth family who could be Beth. DNA results will take several months.

Waiting and wondering must be excruciating for them.

Great find Sloane! Can you give the facebook link? I can't seem to find it. !!!

What a disgrace for the police to "misplace" the file!!! Certainly does not give you much confidence that they did everything they could to find your sister!!!
